Momentarily Mad
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
Sometimes I get so
mad at me
I feel like a fat teddy bear
But instead of hugging
I want to pull my
Stuffing out
But then I realize
What I'm  made of
And who made me
Just one of those days where you made you and everyone else around miserable but tomorrow is a new day

AM/PM
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
It may be good.morning
To you
It may be good evening
To You
You may be getting up
You may be going to bed
What ever time
It is
May the words
That you need
Be a breath away
And may you feel
Inner peace
Ink flows in your heart
Just let it pour
Over the landscape
Good morning
Good night

Money no money
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
We say we have no money
Did we look down at
The worn out shoes
Earth stained blood stained
Pus stained putrid smelling
Shoes of the homeless
We say we're broke with
Nothing to spare
Did we look up at
Earth stained blood stained
Pus stained putrid smellingtops of the homeless
We want our name brand pants
Did we look in the middle at
Earth stained blood stained
Pus stained putrid smelling pants of
The homeless
Perhaps the homeless
Are the rich ones
They've been through it all
Earth stained blood stained
Pus stained putrid smelling life
Traveling in worn out shoes baggy pants hole threaden tops
They felt the sun beat
Down on their backs
The moon and stars
lighting the way
And newly acquired friends
Sleeping  on benches
They are rich with the
Love they share
Next time we say
We're broke
Perhaps we can put
Some.money  in a can
Or a donated coffee
Perhaps with extra
Cream and sugar
We will always have
The poor with us
So let's open the door
Let them through
With dignity
And perhaps a dollar
Or two
Someone the other day said they don't have money yet they make two timesaving much
I saw a homess man on the street that day and wrote this

Dreamt I had no teeth
Woke up startled
Bit down making sure
They were there
Yes they were
None had fallen out
Or disappeared
Got me to thinkin
What if it were true
Who could I talk to
Could God hear my Prayers
How could I shout
Out for joy
Or scream and holler
And even whisper
Wow what about food
Crunchy chicken mashed potatoes
Homemade cookies or pie
Even homemade soup
A salad and fruit
Ran downstairs for hot tea
And marmalade toast
Had to get a pen
To write out a poem
And then say oh look
It's a covid nightmare
Luckily this was all a nightmare
None of this happened
I heard someone say on the radio they
Were having nightmares
Or corona dreams

My Mom's nightmantra
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
My Mom's night mantra
Sweet dreams see you
In the morning
Good night Mom
See you in the morning
How could you ever
Be afraid
After being tucked in
Kissed and told how much
You were loved

Mom's hands and feet
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
You carefully kneaded bread
Green for St Patrick's day
For our family and teachers
Hands to hold crossing
The street to get the bus
Praying the Rosary
And dancing to Lawrence Welk
Hands for giving my brother
A shot when he was young
And hands for playing hopscotch
To mark the spot
And a bat and glove
To play ball with my brothets
Feet for taking us
On walks and to the library
And pulling a wagon with
Homemade dinners for
the sick in the parish
feet for walking down
Hospital halls and running
With us or chasing bubbles
Kneeling at Church
Or scrubbing the floor
Standing at the stove
Making pancakes or dinner
A kiss goodnight
And off to bed we would go
Her footsteps following
For night prayer and a story
Turn off the light and wait for morning to come
Good night John boy ms. Clarevell
Good night moon
Good night Mom
See you in the morning

Today
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
Today is the anniversary
Of my Mothers death
We were blest to
Have a woman
Strong and gentle
A woman with
My father who
Raised six children
One with diabetes
And all the complications
That go with it
You never knew
Her life was one of
Love and song
This is a day of cherished
Memories
And Prayers she taught us
I've been blest
With my Mothers love
And that's Prayer enough
For me
Thank you Mom.
I love you

Can you share your lunch
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
That peanutbutter sandwich
Looks so good
Oodles of nuts and crunch
Seeping out of homemade bread
A glass of cold milk
To wash it down
Celery sticks and carrots
Green as grass
Orange as the sun
A Shiny red apple
Looks like it's been polished
And ready to bite
Napkins for sticky fingers
And juicy hands
You said you would share
I didn't have to ask
You already made it
Just for me
Let's eat our sandwich together
Drinking our milk
Crunching our veggies together
Letting the juice
Drip down from our chin
Wipe off our hands
And share our time together
This is dedicated to my Mom for all
The loving care She put into making a simple sandwich out of love with carrots and celery on the side with an apple and
milk for the six of us Thank you Mom

Restless
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
Such a restless sleep
I'm up for the duration
Cause I can't sleep now
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
Don't look at me
With those puppy dog eyes
Making me feel shame
Hurting you the way
I stupidly did
Reflected in your eyes
You hissed right back
Spitting words of hurt
Now making shame
Thinking how words can be hurtful
So can the battle  this thought came to me after seeing acat and dog fight

Corona Prayer
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
Especially now every breath
We take is a miracle
Every step we take
Is a blessing
The song we sing
Is an Alleluia
Waiting to happen
Spread our wings
And fly freely
Let our breath be praised
Our steps  with a purpose
And our song
A symphony to the Lord

The day draws to an end
Of aworking day
Time to put skeletons
To rest
And awaken to the beauty
Of what is to come
Cicadas keeping tune to
Croaking frogs near-by
Darkness is nearing
Stars will soon appear
The moon is a wink away
Time for evening  Prayer
A comfy pillow a clear mind
And sweet dreams to
Start all over

Mary
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
Her wardrobe an
Array of colors
Translucent  for each culture
Flashy colors and sequins
Pale and simple
What she wore
Didn't matter
The message was the model
Only certain people saw
And would acclaim
Mary^s beauty in
Her native dress
And tongue
Mary is our Mother
And Jesus is her Son
We worship not a statue
Nor a picture painted
On canvas
But we are reminded
Of the Mother of God
We hold gently in
Our Heart

A New Day
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
Dew from the grass
Kissing the ground
While a foggy mist
Dances in the sky
Birds stirring in the trees
Ready to sing
Their wake up call
Squirrels busy playing tag
With the sound
Of a howling dog nearby
Children slamming the door
Running joyfully outside
Ready to greet
A new morning

Criminal of the mind
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
Imprisoned with my thoughts
Words aching to be
Set free
Armed with authors
And Poets past
Story tellers and preachers
Words not stolen
But kept within
Break ins of the souls
Of poetry
Releasing their hearts
Sentenced for Life
To live with words

Exposed
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
Feeling like
An onion
Sometimes
Where each layer
Is peeled
Slice by
Painful slice
The deeper one goes
The more it
Makes one cry
Tears held back
From long ago
Perhaps yesterday's
Tears
Maybe even waiting
For tomorrow
Just trying to figure out what an onion must feel like and how others must feel
Written after seeing someone crying
Crying, after being bullied

SENSES
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
See the green grass
Waving in the breeze
When the roaring sound
Of the mower comes along
Let me say thank you
That I can hear
Smell of homemade bread
Throughout the house
Garbage in the alley
Let me say thank you
Touching petals on a rose
Different shapes of slime
Let me say thank you
Homemade cookies with
An exta crunch
A spice not to
My liking
Let me say thank you
For all that has
Been given
Let me be
Aware of their existence
Especially since some
May have none

A new SUN
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2020
The storm washed away
The cheerful sun
Chalked brilliantly
On the concrete
Raining so hard
Not even traces
Of chalk remained
But the beauty is
An empty board remains
For a new sun to appear
