Lying in an
                                                                                                                unfamiliar
bed I
study
each fold in
dated posters,
tacked
to
foreign
walls.

My eyes
                                                                                                                            dart
from
left
to
right.

Not
focusing
on one
                                                                                                                     obscure
decoration
for
long.

Strange clothes
strewn
across
                                                                                                                  awkward
purple carpet
begin to
ridicule
me.

                                                                                                                   Different
books
sitting
on
half
dusty
shelves.

                                                                                                                           New
vinyls in the
old
player
join.

Packed bags,
boxes
from a
comfortable
time
                                                                                                                          loom
around
corners of the floor in
big
heaps.

I try to
tuck
myself farther
in
to
hide
                                                                                                                         away.
Like a turtle
attempting
to find
solace in a
familiar
shell.

Shrouding
my eyes from an
                                                                                                                  unknown
future.

I sink
in
closer
to sound
asleep,
same, old?
                                                                                                                           you.
with an uncovered heart
i stand pale against the horizon
the sky
painted in pastel
and before me remains
the muted vision of the grey night
encompassed by your luminescence
for it is as if
i have been awakened
by the colours of your lips
the tranquil breath
which lies peacefully in the night
that has captured me with such fluidity
that i dare not flee
for surely i would drown
without the surrounding arms
that i have claimed
as home
for someone I love dearly
If you ask me what a hero is
Here is what I'd say
Batman, Spiderman, Superman
Or anyone in a cape

Flying through the sky
To protect the weak
Seeking out the bad guys
To help the people sleep

Ironman is great
And the Hulk is too
So many heroes to choose from
But then I met you

The man who plays Xbox
And curses when he speaks
Drinks more beer than water
And chews tobacco leaves

Flying through the sky
To the middle east
Seeking out the bad guys
To help the people sleep

A hero in every way
So courageous and strong
Combat boots and rifle
Always brave and carries on

There are no words to thank you
For all that you do
A hero who fights
For the Red White and Blue

Fighting for freedom
In the Middle East
Seeking out the bad guys
To help the people sleep
