Randy Johnson Dec 2019
At midnight tonight, the second decade of the twenty-first century will be no more.
At midnight tonight, the third decade of the twenty-first century will be what's in store.
At midnight tonight, billions of people will welcome and celebrate the new year.
At midnight tonight, some will celebrate with champagne and others will celebrate with beer.
At midnight tonight, it will be the first day of 2020 and the first day of January.
At midnight tonight, give your wife some razor blades because her legs are hairy.

time flows eternal
a year coming to an end
leaving me behind

Dear Diary;
It's the last day
of the year and I
think I will burst into tears
for having held them in
all year.

I see blinking lights today,
And my conscience fades away.
The autumn leaves fall upon me,
While my spring's smile smiles at thee.
My summer thoughts that I left aside, Summon me,My snowflake tears slide,
I see those sparkling night stars,
As the night ends, This year ends...

Steady
Anxiety climbing up my back as we cling and latch on,
Pulling, gripping, 'til we're up, up, up, and on top,
Paused
Peering out at the world, gawking and gazing,
Vision reformed into the lens of a fishbowl,
Intensity
Sweat racing down our faces as our hearts patter more paces,
******
Yanked by the Earth, like lightning from the sky,
Why, oh, why, we yell with no tears to cry,
Falling
Exciting as it may be, terrifying, we fall, fall, fall,
Tantalizing
An ending to the torment, so close but so far from our fingertips,
Spun around and tossed, like a pinball to a jester, tricked, fooled,
Entertained
A little under the weather, we're getting kind of queasy,
Hoarse from all the screaming, some are kind of Weezy,
Calm
At the end of the rollercoaster, shock, pause, disheveled,
What a journey it is, what a wonder, fun, scary, hard, emotional,
End

Today I conclude
the last chapter of my life
but certainly not the final.
And for a moment
the world stood idle...

Contemplating my new future,
I cross the horizon
where retrospect inspires
forward-looking optimism.

My perspective has changed,
tweaked by others' aspirations.
Something grew inside me
by deep introspections
and as the clock ticked further
my resolve became firmer.

It tickles my soul
at how silly it seems
that I was once just
a clueless little seed.
But now I am planted
in the soil of my dreams,
ready to take root
and spring up with the reeds.

My doubts begin to wan
as I rise with a new dawn.
I pause to tell myself
I've no sins to absolve,
I must believe it to be true
to affirm my resolve.
Was a poem written for a new year's contest a long time ago. I thought it would be befitting to dust it off considering how close the new year is now

do you ever get scarily anxious around the New Year?
its like you have to come up with something spectacular
something impossible to either achieve or change
the pressure is enough to want to stay in the Current Year

do you ever think about your current self?
i think that's hard to do
we're always thinking about the past, or the future, or comparing our past self to our new and improved future self, or even comparing how different our future selves are from our past self
it's never current

do you ever wish for things to stay current
not in a trendy way of course
but to be content with the thought---and hear me out---of just being
now that's quite the thought
that's quite the wish
that's quite the New Year
