Do not sweat yourself trying to disprove
the people who looked down upon you
but rather work hard and prove those
who believed in you right. Focus on the
positive to drive you, negative energy
always has a downside to it. Live for love
for hate is too much a burden to bear
and when the music is on, dance to it
even if the rest of the world will call you crazy
because they can't hear the song for
some things were created for you alone
and not for the world...
I am young
Stop telling me to focus on the future
Let me live in the present
We focus too much on getting our life together
We don't even get to experience it

Get me out of this mind control
Spark lights the fire and takes a big toll

Tears slide with utter regret
Knowing the consequences I am not quite set

One must be patient about ADHD
Creativity swirls inside leading to a non-finished Ph.D

Everyday has its ups and downs
Burst the mood and smiles turn into frowns

Love life is already a disaster in the making
One thing I despise is a person who keeps faking

Appreciate my honesty down to the core
For I can crumple if left on the floor

Words may not seem like a big deal to you
A brain suffocated by words portrays a picture I once drew

Make me smile and I will laugh in ecstasy
Make me frown and I will self-hurt recklessly

A gift to feel so deeply to connect with One
A curse to have as my hands create a fake gun

Doctors call it a mental disorder
I call it an endless cassette recorder

I cry for help by acting out
People don't understand how it goes all about

We must help sustain a safe environment to help the situation
Understand that it really just is a lack of focused concentration

Multitasking is a great skill
But there is no skill more valuable
Than that of focus

A dream committed to fully
With undivided attention
Produces unprecedented results
I am fading again
Back into grey
Into the background
Peripheral vision
        Movie extra blur
I'm hidden
So well I can't even see me

Camouflaged
     By all the carnage

who's to say
              *how long I'll be gone
or what will remain when I

                       crawl back  into  *focus

steering soulfully through scented air
attracted to the whiff of a flora's flair
soft and whimsical describes this butterfly
as it dances, oscillates, flutters by

I struggle to fathom its complex sum
of cells, hair, color and flight
it often creates one in my tum!
beautiful... quick... catch one I might -
scattering away, it's too fast for some!
as I grow still and wait in daylight
reflecting in sorrow of what I have done
I learn to focus on what's right
there in the distance a butterfly will come
I learn to focus on God's delight
and then in between a butterfly had come
to comfort my shoulder, it's feet so light
its wings kindly wave goodbye to me

leaving me in awed surprise
as it journeys off while fluttering me

don't chase the butterfly as you'll see
chase them hastily, disappointment I'll see
be still in patience, and it will surprise thee!
There is a saying about love. Love is like a butterfly, chase after it and you will not find it, but turn your attention towards other things, and it will come sit softly on your shoulder.

I have recently broken up with my love, but I know God will take care of me... and him.

I feel the pain of my bones shifting inside of me
Morphing me into the next shape of disappointment

I read the Bible, totally
To consecrate me.
I read Castaneda avidly
To elevate me.
To teach myself to speak
I wrote poetry.
To calm my neuroses
I performed musically.

The sky above me
The earth below
So much about this world
That I do not know.
I am definitely an animal
But not so very wild.
Yet not so very different
Than I was as a child.

I learned all the verses
They taught me in school.
I tried to heed the warnings
Not grow up as a fool.
I memorized the advice
From those who seemed to care.
I counted all my blessings
And did not forget to share.

It’s not always easy
The lessons from school.
It takes a lot of courage
To live by the Golden Rule.
When life doesn't go right
As it will to all good men,
I remember all the good I did
And then do it all again.

The sky above me
The earth below
So much about this world
That I do not know.
I am definitely an animal
But not so very wild.
Yet not so very different
Than I was as a child.

you're trying to focus on the image
but your eye only catches the dust
floating a foot in front of it
you're either focusing too hard
or not focusing at all
your eyes are broken camera lenses
and your brain is melting plastic
you can't function
and you're pieces are falling out
Jim Marchel Sep 2016
When you give someone or something up, it doesn't mean to put it/them on the proverbial shelf to look at every now and then when things get boring.

It doesn't mean you should keep them in the background of your life so you can wander out to them when there's nothing going on in the foreground.

There's nothing uncivil about removing people or things from your life.

I'm not going to give any more of my attention to certain people and all the vices of my past.

Holding onto a piece of them builds the bridge to bring them into my present, and I don't have time to be tempted or distracted from the things that matter to me the most.

If that's cruel, so be it. Some bridges are meant to be burned.
Always keep your focus. Never fear commitment.
