I live on the boat that smiles
It sails on the waves that laugh
The sun shines down from the sulking clouds
The water glitters with the distant past
Another dream

Dreaming about you almost every night
Forgot about my ex love, and last time I cried
I think I'd be ok in my own fantasy world
Cause they won't be able to even say a word

Sparkles, everywhere we look
Feels like the world is spinning around us
Stars falling down the sky in loops
Like your sparkly whispers surrounding us
Telling me it's time I open my eyes
Realizing I was dreaming all this time

I overslept again today.
Terrified of living life.

Too afraid.
To chase the sun.

I wish on the stars.
To play their part.

Wondering if I will ever be,
Good enough?

To live the life I've always dreamed.
Instead of falling fast asleep.

There's no room for me to breathe.
Suffocating and sabotaging.

The life I want for the life I don't.
Wasting away another day.

Running on empty.
Will it always be this way?

Instead I'll fall fast asleep.
Dreaming of what my life could be.

I've been American dreaming...a slumber of days untold.
American dreaming...a longing for the days of old.

Because old dogs can't seem to stop turning tricks and the lotto's been called again but I still haven't won my picks.

American dreaming of days of the past where bad things were common and women wore masks.

Of smiles and deceit to hide their fate from the men with knives who swore they'd made the pain fade.

Away to the future where "******" run amok, and the ones elected to "save" us couldn't give a f---.

Yes, I'm American dreaming, of a place welled up with pride, I'm American dreaming as we **** ourselves from the inside.

In a place screaming "Freedom" as we duck and run to hide.
The abyss pulls us closer as we put our trust into those who've lied,

to save their skin, because we only back the best...
I'm American dreaming...but I can't seem to get no rest.

What sweet memories
of not forgotten ,
lost in an overgrown
garden of time .

Drifting down avenues
where displaced lovers
meet Hibiscus and Passion
Flower ,
who show them the way .

Where long marble hallways
have thousands of rooms ,
and in each scented room
a cherub guards a dream .

Because all dreams are real
and can live without us ,
though sometimes when
dreaming
a truth is revealed .

The sun was still cold in your breath,
half-awake still dreaming and we are way past that hour,
just waiting for the first light to break in and steal the dark away like a stereo.

The air was fetid,
reeking of sad news,
swirling about,
but we moseyed along carrying dustpans and brooms,
lugging garbage bags
like we were sanitation Santa,  sweeping cigarette butts,
and in them I saw burnt time,
and in them I see mounting bills.
The cold air was doing a number
on us, dumping its oblique
sorrow on our then ragged frame
as we emptied waste baskets.

At times when I utter the word doctor,
your eyes go creamy,
your ears wag,
perhaps I was doing an impression—
an echo
of a forgotten life.
People were still groggy on their cardboard beds, their lips wearing soot as they drooped down on the side of their faces, the night weighed heavy on them.
Unlike most sight that slide through and veer away from despair in the flesh, yours fell on them with flecks of your heart knowing that from them we are dimes apart.
We swept, but your broom was nimble, springing into life in those days. Out of nowhere your hope swung a fist. I always remembered those words like a promise and held on to them like a limb.
“Though the world may forget, don’t dare forget who you are.”

I dream, I dream, I dream
I dream for a life much bigger than this
And for the hope of the Lady Wealth's kiss
To be known by both Mister and Miss
I dream for a life much bigger than this
I want a life with a forever lasting smile
A goal, a dream that'll be worth my while
Sailing across a sea of gold
Knowing there's no other way this can unfold
From now on I'll only be winning
Just you wait, this is just the beginning
I don't dream of love
I don't dream of health
I don't dream of fame
I don't dream of wealth
I won't cross paths with the black cat's hiss
Because I dream of a life much bigger than this
I've dreamt of a life much bigger than this
I'm dreaming of a life much bigger than this
This is my redemption, myself I will redeem
I dream, I dream, I dream
this is my 88th poem, written on 3/30/24
