Susie
My heart is like the night sky
Darkness, pure darkness

Except that
there are stars in the sky
to brighten it up

But
there are only demons inside me
taking over, eating me up

Telling me

You're always the second choice
You're a really selfish person
You're such a burden
You ruined his happiness

You do not deserve him

Perfect, me?
Must be mistaken identity,
Look at my endless list of flaws,
And tell me I'm still beautiful and all.

Stare at my face,
Imagine seeing my heart,
If you saw the poor quality,
Would I still be yours to keep?
Would you still love me?

If you saw the real person behind the smile,
Would you comfort my soul?
If I gave you every reason to leave,
Would you go, or stay here to redeem the best of me?

All the spoken words I've ever heard
And every journey written in pen
Gorgeous conjunctions and beautiful sentences
Are one combination of a 26 letter alphabet.
We are a mix of A's and T's, C's and G's
And not just the mix of scientific bases
But the actual letters make up a person
With a personality and a body and a face.
Every book to ever grace your hands
And every poem the danced in the mind
All the 'I love you's and the 'I regret nothing's
Every 'I miss you' to have been spoken in time.
We make friends with a combination of syllables
A different mix of two 'l's, an 'h', and two vowels
We end relationships with the horrible g-double o-d-bye
Quitting it all and throwing in the towel.
And somehow we overlook the simple fact
That everything we have ever been and will be
Is somehow linked together with these 26 sounds
Every fiber of our everything and piece of history.
So that little song you learned long ago
To the tune of one sparkling little star
Remember that every letter you know today
Makes up every fantastic piece that you are.
It wasn't that long ago
we were saying our good byes
but I never got to say thank you
for all the things that you taught me
most importantly what forever means
at least when it came to me and you
It means until you're tired
and don't want to play anymore
or until I'm useless
and you've got all your kicks
Was it forever until you're quit
or forever until you're bored
So tell me the truth
did you ever really care?
Did you love that boy you held?
Did you just use him like the others?
And toss him when he was spent?
Now in the end I know
that it's all for the best
We're both much happier
and moving on with our lives
but still the questions linger
like a shadow cast long before
for the life of me I'll never understand
how forever can be so brief
just until you're hurting
just until it's not easy anymore
or until someone better comes along
Is it forever until I'm broke
or forever until you let it die?
But tell me the truth
did any of it matter to you?
Or was it just another cheap thrill?
Was everything you said a lie?
Just like happily ever after and forever.
This poem resembles the moment when I leave poetry for a while... a long while...
My only wish is that this poem reaches over 1000 views. I want people to see how my life has changed from my first poem to my last. I want the world to know my name, Andrew T. Hannah, is not just another poet but is a new spirit in the world of creativity and artistry.
Love is an emotion that strangles everyone
It holds fears and joys within its mighty palm
Fears of betrayal and jealousy
Joys of happiness and trust
Love is a possibility of both
There is the possibility of being hurt
There is the possibility of being happy
There is also the possibility of being both at different times
Love is complicated in a mental standing that humans cannot understand
I do not believe I understand Love as in my world she is magnificent
In my world she has saved my life and helped me understand this rather simple four letter word
Love is simple yet devastatingly complex
Love is well...Love.
Thanks.

i only miss you on mornings when the sun decides to show
and only on evenings when the stars and moon glow
when the grass is a shade of green and the sky is a blue,
when we're far, far apart and when i'm right next to you

i'll miss you for as long as night and day are oblique
and as long as seven days make up one whole week
for as long as you're gone and as long as you stay,
i'll miss you when you're here and when i'm counting the days

it's when you're all dressed up in a dapper-looking suit
it's when you're in bed, sick, and i'll have to make you soup
under all these circumstances, that is only when–
you know what? ***** this poem, i'd still miss you then
If
If I could go back
I'd erase those silly arguments we had.
The ones where both of us were right
And neither of us wrong.

If I could go back
I'd buy you more flowers just because
I know how much a single rose
Illuminates your soul.

If I could go back
I'd take you to the beach a lot.
Knowing that your shine would fight
The Sun's rays. And win.

If I could go back
I'd make you smile again
Because your beauty protruded
Through both corners of your lips.

If I could go back
I'd memorize each and every word
You said to me as you walked away.
A token of your memory.

If I could go back.
But I can't go back.
So I'll choose to forget former incidents
And focus on future hazards.
