Shades of Spring
Mitch Prax Aug 2020
I saw the
spring sun
in your eyes.
The way the yellow light
danced off those beautiful orbs,
like bumblebees on dandelions.
These moments of gold
may one day fall
into autumn's grasp
but the sweet taste it leaves
in my mouth will never dim.
Sweet as honey,
sweet as amber.

In Between Heartbeats
Mitch Prax Jan 25
Every moment we
have spent together will
live in me forever.
These moments are ours,
and mine alone,
living in between each
heartbeat and behind
every smile until
the end.

The Strange Bunch
Mitch Prax Apr 2022
Poets are a strange bunch-
we enjoy the fall until we've hit the ground.
Sometimes we push ourselves if
for nothing but the art.
Oh, how we find that spark
in the darkness of suffering.
Indeed, what a mad bunch we are,
to find sanity in our madness
and I wouldn't have it
any other way.

The Body and the Battle
Mitch Prax Jun 2019
There are only so many battles
one can fight at any point in time.
to be struggling on so many battlefronts
can leave you weary and even broken
whether they are mental
or physical.
For a mere human mind or body
to be occupied on so many fronts-
well, they were never designed
for that sort of pain.

Mitch Prax Jun 2018
Depression doesn’t care for
the size of your bank account,
or tire from how many laps you can run.
It doesn’t care how bright the sun is
or who holds you in each night.
Depression sneers at all those photographs
lined upon your bedside table.
It won’t ask to use your emotions
to taint them and everything
that may hold some light to the dark.

Dark Energy
Mitch Prax Mar 2018
Light dances off your red dress;
I think I adore you.
But it’s never the right time,
the clock ticks and distance
drags us apart like two galaxies
helpless against the dark energy
that keep us in our place.
It only reminds me
that time is running out;
that we’re moving further apart
and never toward one another..
Oh, what I wouldn’t give to hold you
to hear your voice guide me to sleep,
to undo this dark energy between us.
