(Me)

Here I go
there's nothing there to stop me
The river flows
but it flows around me
I'm in the know
and it is enlightening
I don't lose hope
the height's no longer frightening

(You)

If you hold on
the past is over powering
You must let go
of the rope the world is tying
Your feeling low
the hill it is worth climbing
You shoulder on
there is no looking behind

(Us)

Here we go
we both will go together
On the river boat
we will gamble on forever
We'll toss what we know
into the coming weather
The world we'll show
better we are

(together)

We take our turn with what we've learned
Years of experience
Candles burned; both ends I've heard
Is no way to live

As the world turns, we move beyond
Where we once had been
Close the shades on progress made
Cause here we go again

Last in line, every time
We try our best to get ahead
Struggling with memory
Never learning to accept

What lays ahead if there's any left
Living in this robber's den
We act surprised when we find
That here we go again

From A to Z we're in too deep
This life of compromise
We concede there's nothing free
Not even a hard time

When the rules are made for fools
Life becomes a hit and miss
We all must have missed that bus
Cause here we go again
Mike Hauser Sep 2024
Like the time before this
And the time before that
Will we do it again
Don't make me laugh

Double or nothing
On the nothing we have
Want to hear something
Here we go again

You can lean to the left
Or rumba to the right
Doesn't much matter
In how you choose sides

You can dip your toe in
The slightest tidbit
If truth be known
Here we go again

There's nothing new
Still without a clue
Of what we have done
And are soon to do

We'll buy the whole farm
From beginning to end
Sound the alarm
Here we go again

I've seen the best in men
And also seen the worst in them
Give more love to a stranger
Than they would their next of kin
Murky is the water
In how some people live
With a hit and a miss
Here we go again

Children on the battlefield
Streets in which they live
No warning as the shots ring out
Seldom do they miss
With silence from the general
Public is amiss
Hug and a kiss
Here we go again

With the little we have left
Can we not readily accept
I'm thinking we had better
Before we end up dead
It's every man for himself
In how he butters up his bread
With a swig and a dip
Here we go again

I certainly don't know this
And for sure I don't know that
No idea of where it is
Or where I saw it last

I don't know what to say
Or even what to do
I came too early to be this late
Here without a clue

I tend to lean on
I don't know what it means
From the very start
With everything I've seen

Don't know my righty tighty
From my lefty loose
No matter how you twist it
Here without a clue

I don't know what is in
I haven't figured out
Only thing for certain is
I am filled with doubt

I don't know what to choose
When it comes to what to do
Which direction I should turn
Here without a clue

She has all but tied me up
Set me in front of her firing squad
Says she did it out of love
Sometimes love just ain't enough

Asked if I have any last request
Lighting my last cigarette
Ain't much of nothing to be said
When there ain't much of nothing left

Refused the blindfold handed me
Needing one last look to see
The baby blues that betrayed me
On this last day of our history

She has a colorful collection of shooting stars
In a box underneath her bed
Pulling them out in the middle of night
Letting their wonder fill her head

As they playfully bounce off the walls
She's the center of her galaxy
Until from down the hall she hears her mother call out
She quickly packs them away then drifts off to sleep

it is just as i suspected
a lonely echo to the sound
can't remember where she left it
another day down for the count

some folk accept the fact
she has bought all that she owns
and with what little she has left
her heart beats alone

they hand out prizes to the winners
sympathy plaques held out for the rest
another night of T.V. dinners
where loneliness feeds itself

she tries her best to overcome it
her thoughts like a broken home
feels she's the only one in the running
as her heart beats alone

never once trusted much in love
says it's a drug that doesn't last
anyways she could never afford enough
if the truth in it be said

certainly didn't wish for it
the direction her life's been thrown
but when it all comes down to it
her heart beats alone
Mike Hauser Jan 2014
she loves to dance in bedlam
to the beat the shadows throw
in a gown of sequin macabre
since her mind left home

where webs of  deceit hang from chandlers
and madness is the party game
blowing the horns of something's wrong
in an eerie game of charades

the cook that's in her kitchen
bakes a don't dare go there souffle
though she dips her fingers in it
through out her darken days

you may take the chance in joining her in dance
on this the razors edge
when all is said and the day has bled
she pulls the sheets of madness up on her bed

the girl doesn't know just who she is
nor where it is she belongs
wanders around from man to man
giving each a portion of her soul

the only hint of what this does to her
is the sadness behind blue eyes
the truth at times spills out in tears
but never enough to wash the lies

the feeling is there's something missing
in this world she has sold to self
a life that's built on nothing
a missing life she knows all to well

Her soft tenderness
Can be ******* a man
When he's used to bricks
Mortar and sand

It'll shake the foundation
Built with his hands
Leave a man aching
For all that she has

She can tear down the walls
Erecting his years
Where he once had a cause
Now tossing his cares

Knows that it's true
Without a word being said
Her soft tenderness
Can be ******* a man

She can catch him mid-stream
Have him change his mind
Make him want to leave
All he's built behind

Pulls him to shore
Beached in her warm sand
Her soft tenderness
Can be ******* a man

She plays tunes under the moon
With her violin made from balsa wood
For the lightest of sounds you ever could
Hear in the night between timber wood

She plays Spanish guitar
In a dandelion field beneath golden stars
Where all the notes that she plays travel afar
From galaxies out, back to the strings of the heart

She daily beats on the wooden drum
From the first sign of light to the mornings beyond
Inviting us all, each and everyone
To her wistful tunes she shares out of love

The tambourine is all she's missing
To top off the sounds of her musical knitting
Drawing you close in hopes that you'll listen
To this her ritual of symphony

He has the need to be free
She just needs someone to hold her hand

He's always looking for a way to leave
She believes she has found her man

He has a case of the wandering eyes
She only has eyes for him

He goes out wearing a thin disguise
She stays at home with mascara on waiting for her man

He has a squeeze he sees on the side
She only sees the best side of him

He doesn't want to be tied down in life
She only feels free in life with him

He'll lie to get anything he wants
She truthfully feels all she needs is him

He's learned to manipulate the do's and don'ts
She lives to give him everything

He only gives and always gets what he wants
She's at her happiest when happiness to him she brings

He cant wait to get away
She can't wait to have him home

She has no idea as of late
He left her a long time ago

He said, she said
But who do you believe
All depends on which side you're on
To who you claim guilty

The proof is in the pudding
But the flavor is hard to find
In this he said, she said
On the left and right

With this righteous claim of guilty
Before we hear the facts
I ask you quite honestly
What is the sense in that

Where is our sense of decency
I once heard someone say
Out of all the parts that we could keep
That's the one we gave away

If we open up this pandora's box
On what we hope to find
More often than not as an afterthought
Will come back to us and bite

Without a moral compass
Directions are all askew
With he said, she said
We may never know the truth

i say hey more than i need to
hey is what i say when i'm talking to you
not trying to come up with just any excuse
but hey, it's what i do

hey, what's the big idea
been saying hey since i was a kid
hey makes its way, past and present said
hey, have we ever met?

hey, would you mind
if i brought hey up one more time
not in this but the next line
hey is here by design

hey makes its way into my vocab
ain't that great, ain't that fab
one last time to make it last
if you didn't know then, then you know that

hey, is what i said

What does Brad Pitt have
That I don't have
Besides a movie star wife
And a couple dozen kids
Does he have the personality
To go along with it
I'm quite sure he does
Now that you mention it

What does Brad Pitt do
That I don't do
Besides the simple fact
That he makes women swoon
As they dream of him
Morning, night, and noon
Along with the other things
With him they'd like to do

What can Brad Pitt say
That I can't say
As he tries his best to keep
The young girls at bay
Every time he smiles
And looks their way
Melting tender hearts
Is the way Brad plays

What has Brad Pitt got
That I ain't got
Cause apparently
He's got a lot
But one thing I have
That Brad has not
Is the perfect woman
And the perfect love

Pirate girls have the red-est hair
with an attitude of they don't care
After a night of heavy drinking
it's off to some more ship sinking

Barmaid's they have eyes of blue
that you can get lost into
Pouring one drink after another
any wonder why we love her

Soccer moms are where it's at!
Eyes of green and hair of black
Mini vans and low cut jeans
Sweet lil things of truckers dreams

Derby girls with bright blue locks
Hot pink skates and plaid tube socks
A date with them is quite a time
The way they roll will blow your mind

So many different girls
of so many different colors
Have the boys falling
all over each other
Saddened by
that lonely day
When all bright
colors fade...
to gray...

Hey John
There is a God
He’s given a choice
And we’ve taken it wrong
If there’s any to blame
We’d be the ones
From the very beginning
Till Kingdom come

We’re always looking
For someone to blame
We wonder at love
But blunder in hate
Never owning up to
Our man made mistakes
As we easily cave
To Satans ways

Hey John
Stop blaming God
For all of the problems
That we have brought on
Like it or not
We’re all being taught
To sinfully place
The blame on God
This is in response to John Mellencamp’s new song Hey God (Great album by the way)

Hey you,
I think I knew you
When you were a child
Running free and wild

It it true,
What I say about you
That part I sort of miss
All the years of innocence

Hey you,
At break neck speed you moved
From point A to point B
Leaving behind flakes of memory

Is it true,
That half the things if you knew
Only a few you'd want to change
Most you'd want to keep the same

Hey you,
I know what you're going through
Because I have been there too
After all I am you

I have a friend
who's hidden in
the back of his house
and never comes out
he's afraid
he'll give away
if nothing else
a part of himself
I have this friend
who is convinced
if he does
there won't be enough
to get through
what he needs to
if he decides
to come outside
with doors locked
that's where he'll rot
this friend of mine
who hides inside
the back of his house
with no thought about
what he could do
if he would choose
to come outside
and enjoy the view

All that I have left to say
Is I need a place to hideaway
As life sends me to an early grave
Sooner than ever, never late

Feel like I've been punched in the gut
Stuck here in this daily rut
No one around to wish me luck
Knocked down hard where I can't get up

All the excuses that I have made
From yesterday up to today
Leaving not much left to say
'Cept I need a hideaway

From the back up to the front
To late now to order out my lunch
Call it what you will but it's still a hunch
One again my teams been cut

Standing outside the city gate
As I watch them give it all away
Not sure I can face another day
Certain I need a hideaway

HIDE ME FROM THIS PAIN INSIDE
HIDE ME FROM THESE TEARS I CRY
HIDE FROM THE FACT I WANNA HIDE

AND THE FACT I WANNA DIE

HIDE ME FROM THIS PLACE I'M IN
HIDE ME FROM BEGINNING UNTIL THE END
HIDE ME FROM THE SEEN AND IMAGINED

AND WHO IT IS I THINK I AM

HIDE ME FROM THE DARKENED SKY
HIDE ME FROM MY DARKENED MIND
HIDE ME FROM THE WORLD OF STRIFE

WHERE I'M AFRAID TO GO OUTSIDE

HIDE ME FROM THE MENTAL ILL
HIDE ME NOW BEFORE IT KILLS
HIDE ME FROM THE GRIP I FEEL

I JUST WANT IT TO BE STILL

HIDE ME FROM THE ROCKS THROWN AT ME

HIDE ME FROM THOSE THAT WON'T LET ME BE
HIDE ME FROM WHAT WON'T SET ME FREE

HIDE

The way the world is now
I'm scared to say the least
When it comes down to it
Could someone hide me please

Perhaps underneath a feather bed
With soft dust bunnies to lay my head
But if there's no space for me for that
I'll take the closest instead

Anywhere that there is room
Away from the daily doom and gloom
Don't know what else there is to do
But it needs to happen soon

Maybe hide me in the dark
Trunk of a waiting get away car
We can get an early start
Anywhere will do as long as it's far

I'd even take your mom's basement
To hide from trouble in
It's hard to tell who's friend or foe these days
In this world that we now live

I just need a place
That I can hide away
As I am so afraid
I might not make it another day
Mike Hauser Apr 2020
Hide your tears of misery
In plain sight for all to see
Without skipping a single beat
Pull the wool over the sheep

Hide your tears like crocodiles
Behind your Cheshire shy cat smile
Inside grinning all the while
Pull them out for when they count

Hide your tears in fits of rage
When you do not get your way
When you do not have your say
Save your tears to throw this way

Hide your tears out in plain view
Throwing in a sniffle or two
Whatever program best suits you
If it helps you make it through

Hide your tears in plain sight
Whether or not you think it's right
This is how you deal with life
Hiding tears in broad daylight
Mike Hauser Oct 2015
I've made the decision to decide

To do my best to try and hide

From the ever wandering eyes

On the face of time

It can search all that it likes

I'll move left if it moves right

Hoping me it never finds

Staying far behind

It's taken too much from my life

With its bark and wicked bite

That is why from time I'll try

To do my best this time to hide
Mike Hauser May 2019
I'm stepping off this highway
That so many today are on
The shape it's in has about done me in
I need a higher road

One without so many potholes
And blind curves along the way
One where I can take my time
And say what I want to say

Without some passerby
Going into a rage
They need to stop over what others have got
And stay in their own lanes

With no heed or no warning
They keep changing up the signs
It's so hard to know which way to go
Which only adds to life's hefty fines

So I'm stepping off this highway
That leads to whoever knows
Cause the shape it's in has about done me in
And I'm in need of a higher road

this girl is the perfect tomorrow
the better thoughts of yesterday
the soft spot that's right
between day and night
highlight of the mystery

she is the tapping into time
which brings about the here and now
she is what is felt by most
that never let go
she is all that is allowed

she is both the salt and sweet
the need, wanting desire
the whisper of the truth
when it grabs hold of you
the center of the fire

she is the late into the day
the slight hint that's on the breeze
the meaning in sound
when no ones around
highlight of the mystery

I consider myself highly educated
Graduated close to the top
Am a **** at today's Geography
So I can be close to where you are

And you know I've got your number
Cause Mathematics comes easy to me
And it's as easy to spell me loving you just as well
As it is spelling you loving me

So I'm reading into this all the right moves
Cause I think it's a novel idea
Having you next to me on life's playground swing
Just like a couple of kids
Mike Hauser Jun 2014
They both met in high school
Fell in love like a struck fool
Knew right away this was the one

From the very start
They melded each others heart
Yes, you can say it's true love

So after graduation
No need for explanation
Made plans to be together for life

They set to marry
In late February
Until that rainy evening on that fateful night

Now she places wooden crosses
On the highway losses
Of those that never made it back home

Mothers and Fathers
Brothers and Daughters
Who've lost out on love like her own

Which is the reason this quest
The center of her loneliness
Thinking back to what she almost had

When they both slipped from her hands
Her love and her life plans
Where irony is all she has left

If she could turn back the clock
To all that she's lost
Would it make a difference in where she is today

Being the same girl
In that same shattered world
Where he still holds the heart that she gave away

As she places wooden crosses
On the highway of losses
Of those that never made it back home

Mothers and Fathers
Brothers and Daughters
Who've lost out on love like her own

The hills are filled with ghosts
Those long dead and gone
From the dead Confederates
To Apache strong

A past that's cruel and often used
To get what it wants
Leaving in its wake the open graves
Of Fathers and their Sons

Shame done in high cotton
Holding tight the Devils hand
The dead may be forgotten
But not the sin of man

Where every Cain is Able
To lash out in hate
The blood from our brothers
Cries out from beyond the grave

As from the beginning
Until the end of time
Those long dead and gone
Are ghosts on the hillside

I might be a few years to late
As this has been decades in the making

But I'm going through with a commune
To give a few hippies something to do

So I wrote an ad, put it on a list
They say this guy Craig is the best

Now my yard is filled with hippies by the score
Or would the proper way be to say hippies galore

I hurried them all into the house
It wouldn't do for the neighbors to find this out

I set up booths in different rooms
I handed out name tags and colorful kazoo's

Don't let it be said I run a shabby commune
You gotta keep the hippies happy in all you do

That's why I have a calendar of special events
From karaoke kazoo to rug making with hemp

On Tuesday's we basket weave, Wednesday's we kite
But never in the day as hippies burn in the light
(Or is that Vampires...scratch that, that may not be right)

I even hired a Jerry Garcia look a like
To call out the numbers on Bingo night

All this hard work hasn't gone for not
Communes and Jefferson Airplane tunes last week called me up

They'd like to feature me in their magazine
A full page article on living the dream

Where I can help others to have their very on
Commune to invite a few hippies along

So go out if you can to a magazine stand
Read how it's done then buy you some land

We'll have hippie commune's from one end to the other
No color nor creed just sisters and brothers

I moved a few years ago
To the upper state of Vermont
Although the place is beautiful
At times it can be one great big yawn

That's when we put our heads together
Me and my best friend Shawn
And came up with the great idea
To start a Hippie Farm

Our noggins were a knocking
Not sure how this could be done
Do Hippies come from packs of seeds
Or like flowers, in a bunch

And can you start them off by grafting
Like they do on Apple Farms
Where you get rows and rows of Hippies
From just a single one

That's when Shawn remembered this mail order magazine
That we took out and took a look inside
It came with an assortment of Hippies
From Raw to Roasted to Highly Deep Fried

So we sat and weighed all of our options
And ordered a bushel of Hippies alive
Then we set out cultivating the fields
Till the day our Hippies arrived

The package  arrived a few days later
In an old beat up VW Bus
With psychedelic smoke pouring from the windows
Pretty sure they all came buzzed

Of course Hippies don't come with instructions
Only bell bottom jeans and old Jefferson Airplane tapes
Can't tell you how many Hippies we went through
Before we learned from our mistakes

Like don't plant a Hippie face first in the dirt
They need a bit of air to breath
And they don't like to be over watered
Just dust them off when you feel the need

Now that the farm is up and running
We seem to have come into our own
We've even come up with  a way of branding
Some of the Hippies that we've grown

We started selling them in flavors
Like Ben and Jerry's down the street
From our Abbie Hoffman Radical Cherry
To our Hendrix Hazy Purple Berry Treat

But it's our Groovy Rainbow Roundup Hippie
Whose sales have never let us down
In fact I'd put that Hippie up against
Anybody else's Hippie in town

I've never been much of one to brag
But we're known on the East coast, up and down
We've had people as far away as Florida
Come and buy our Hippies by the pound

So next time your up in Vermont
Stop in and take a tour and watch us grow
Don't forget to stop by our gift shop
And purchase your very own Hippie to take home

Over a cup of morning java
Scanning my daily mail
I came upon an advertisement sheet
That exclaimed in BOLD rainbow pastel

Grand opening of a store that has everything
On the corner of Daisy and William Tell
The one thing I saw that interested me
Is they were having a back to "60's"  Hippie sale

Of course I stopped what it was I was doing
Hopped in my Lexus and left right away
The excitement had my heart all in a flutter
This I guarantee is going to be a good day

They weren't kidding when they said they sold it all
I'd been wandering the store for quite a while
That's when I came to what it was I had come here for
Before me in trippy little colors, the hippie aisle

So I bought me a couple colorful hippies
With my 25% coupon I was able to save
The Hippies even  came with a bonus
Fresh cut flowers and Jefferson Airplane tapes

When I got home I showed them to their room
Black light posters and colored beads hung from the door
As luck would have it I bought an Indian hemp rug
From Pier One just the day before

They taught me transcendental meditation
While I taught them both how to bathe
Their lessons broadened the mind
My lessons the nostrils saved

I soon had a groovy little hippie pad
In which organic vegetables and enlightenment grew
We'd sit around crossed legged in a  purple haze at night
Playing psychedelic tunes on our Kazoo's
And I was pretty good too! Who Knew!

Yes, a house of happy hippies
Is a happy hippie house indeed
Especially when Wendy Crystal Sky...Yes, that's her name
Brews her famous dandelion tea

I highly recommend the purchase of hippies
I couldn't be any happier with mine
Sure beats the punk rockers I got on close out last year
But that my friend is another tale for another time...
Had a request to pull this out of the basement, dust it off, and put it on the shelf...
Something fun! My apologies to all the Hippies out there!

Everyday I have lunch
With a pink hippopotamus
The menus always the same
Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches
Oh, and Diet Cherry Coke
Cause he likes the way it tickles his throat

His friends sometimes stop by
To join the both of us
Hippopotami
If you're talking more than one of us
Or Hippo for short
If you're not into funny sounding words

Sometimes after lunch
Me and my friend the pink Hippopotamus
Like to take a drive
To the beach in his Minibus
He loves to catch the rays
Plus hang ten on a few waves

If you ever care for lunch
Feel free to join me and my Hippopotamus
But only if you like
Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches
Because it's all that he will eat
Which is fine by me
Makes for easy cooking and cleaning

the path is wrought

i worry not

the price is paid

my sins been bought

i'm not the same

let me explain

it has to do

with Jesus name

don't take it light

His sacrifice

for in return

a better life

so leave behind

that wretched life

and fall back on

His sacrifice

I would like sometimes
To just up and leave
Be gone till no one
Is out looking for me
A secret hiding place
That only I can keep
Off in the distance
A fading memory

Holding onto the whisper
That's never heard from again
Unfolding the map
That leads to Neverland
Embracing the fact
That no one knows who I am
And if there's anything left
I'll leave even that

Escape from the place
That I was last seen
Permanently erase
All thoughts of me
Change every trace of my name
You would ever care to think
Do all this and call
Myself history

From the start of this
To the very end
Swimming in ignorance
We'll do it all again

Sands from the hour glass
Keep on seeping
As we watch history
Repeating...

Under the baking sun
Nothing has ever changed
What's being done's been done
The path remains the same

As the bell loudly tolls
Time is fleeting
Watching history
Repeating...

Have there been lessons learned
I'm thinking not this turn
Getting what's deserved
In everything we earn

We still remain the same
In our hearts beating
As we watch history
Repeating...

History Repeats
man's not so lavish deeds
with select memory
on the company it keeps

falling into line
with those out of their minds
wrong is never right
yet sown so many times

History Repeats
the side it prefers to lean
all we tend to be
is part of the machine

standing in this line
we all fit the crime
you can see it in our eyes
not a one puts up a fight

History Repeats
like there even is a need
to grow a load of grief
in the planting of that seed

falling a bit further in
the ditch we have been digging
past advice withstanding
never taking what was giving

Went out early morning
Hit the road and stuck out my thumb
A passerby gave me a ride
From that moment on, I was gone

Tripping across the great divide
From one point to the next
I'd call those to say adios
But do they know I've even left

Up and down the side of mountains
Back and forth along the coast
When you've no idea of where you're going
There's the slimmest chance that you'll get lost

Keep in mind I find no hurry
As I watch the world scurry about
Caught up in their plans and worries
Out of control in the fast lane of doubt

Not really sure how long it's been
Could be weeks, months, or years
Since the day I found my way
To make it away from all life's cares

There's so much to find when peace of mind
Decides to make a run
As day after day, out of the gate
From here to there, sticking out my thumb
Mike Hauser Jul 2014
I've got my head in the clouds
With my thumb in the air
I know that that's not allowed
But who really cares

I got the brightest idea
To buy some shoes with a lift
Now I'm head over heels
And that's got her miffed

When a ride comes along
I do a quick flip
Land straight up on my feet
After a gentleman's dip

Take the comfort in back
Feel the breath of fresh air
With a twitch of the lip
I see that were outta here

Now I'm humming along
Down goodbye highway
Guess I'll see you around
But it won't today
Mike Hauser May 2013
It all started out so innocently
A thrift store here, a garage sale there
Anyways, Lord knows how bad I needed
The chartreuse rug of that polyester bear

It goes perfect in my kitchen
Though I can barely see the floor
Just need to move a few piles that grew
From me buying trinkets by the score

Some say I'm a crazy hoarder
I've seen the show and I'm not that bad
Anyway who doesn't need
A stuffed albino Siamese cat

Then there's all the broken plates of china
That I got for a steal
If I ever do find my stove again
I'll use them for my next meal

Why ask why I save all these milk jugs
You never do know when
A herd of cattle will be passing through
The middle of my den

You may say crazy hoarder
I may say I think not
When I look at pile after pile
Of all the treasures that I've got

If you ever care to visit
Just step over this, crawl over that
Till you come to that little itty bitty empty spot
Where we can sit back and relax
And have a little chat,
over this this and that,
maybe why it is ducks quack,
is it brains that they lack,
that my friend is whack...

Crazy Hoarder?!?
Don't make me laugh...

Here,
With your hand in mine
Here,
Is where we best spend our time

You and I gazing off in the distance
Walking towards it so neither one miss it

Here,
Is where the future begins
Here,
In the palm of our hands

Holding on tight, helping each other
Both hearts in time, best friends and lovers

Here,
At the center of it
Here,
Our hands perfectly fit

Mine in yours, yours in mine
Both in kind, tight in bind

Here,
Is where I am alive
Here,
With your hand in mine

I have held onto more than one secret
Many times I have held onto pride
From the creases of old, ancient stories I hold
Dating back to the beginning of time

I have held out hope in the moment
Right as despair enters the room
I have held my breath in things left unsaid
In hopes that they never ring true

I have held hard to the passing memories
Of those that have gone before me
Love at all cost is love never lost
Even when it's been set free

Yet the best in life I have found to be held
When you finally pull back the cover
From mornings first light to the last sliver of night
Is in the grandeur of holding each other
Mike Hauser Dec 2013
So young and newly married
Hanging on by the thread of love
Sometimes though in life we see
That thread isn't wound tight enough

Through the daily struggles
Most of them unseen
What happened to the newlywed
Where went all the dreams

Holding on
Barely holding on...

A father and husband out of work
A family living out of the car
Is this the American dream we've built
Is this now where we are

Cardboard serves a purpose
As a bed and a homemade sign
To keep the cold off of the floor
Hey brother can you spare a dime

Holding on
Barely holding on...

The doctors diagnosis
Doesn't give much hope for life
Just a simple six months ago
There was no thought of dying

Even less hope in your case
Just prolonging time
You could spend what little you have left
Or go ahead and say your goodbyes

Holding on
Barely holding on...

No matter your life's lot
The position that you hold
We're all in the same boat on the same stream
Trying to stay afloat

There are so many different scenarios
Which could haunt many a page
That in life continually follow us
Throughout all our days of

Holding on
Barely holding on...
Mike Hauser Mar 2016
You've held onto it tightly
Never let it go
As it has been your friend for life
Through all the highs and lows

Through all the winter storms
In all the summer rains
It has been the anchor which
Has held it all in place

Among the ups and downs
All the ins and outs
The many cares left unaware
With the here's and there abouts

You think it over when you're under
As it helps to calm the doubt
When there seems to be no other way
For you to walk the lonely mile

You may one day choose to let it loose
Where it can have its say
In hopes it helps another
Along their merry way

Until then...
You'll hold onto it tightly
Never let it go
As it has been your friend for life
Through all the highs and lows

It's time for me
To leave this world behind

Hold me tight
Hold me tight

Not to keep me here
But more for a steady flight

Hold me tight
Hold me tight

And that your memory of me
Is that I was kind

Hold me tight
Hold me tight

Long after I've gone
To the other side

Hold me tight
Hold me tight

In your daily thoughts
And prayers at night

Hold me tight
Hold me tight

All the wrongs I brought
May they be made right

Hold me tight
Hold me tight

As I take my last breath
And let out a final sigh

Hold me tight
And say goodbye

My daddy taught me

When I was very young

When I was very young

How to hold a gun

How to hold a gun

And never let it go

Must have been something

My daddy thought that I should know

Never did get drafted

But still I went to war

Still I went to war

Every day for sure

Every day for sure

Is like a battlefield

Never let them take you down

Never should you yield

I only bring this up

Cause I feel it's getting late

Feel it's getting late

For America's sake

For America's sake

We might need to up and run

Unless it is my son

You hold onto your gun
