I'm just a boy
Starring outside
From a second story
Window.
And you're just a girl
Walking down the
Sidewalk..
I don't know if I'll ever
See you again.
But I'd like to think
I will.

Some day.
tv tucked-in to premature sleep,
t'is elementary that I
I awaken midnightish,

certain things in life off course,
and are truly better for just
the wanting
than
the having.

but not you,
of course.

Of course!
From my eyes to your eyes and back to bed in five
sparkling heartbeats
It's better this way.
I'm better off as a
spectator to the
way everyone
else finds happiness.

They dress their
best and pray on
sundays.
I drink in stale
clothes and laugh
out loud in the
open park in
the dead of night.
High and at one
with the
thieving masked
lords of the night.

Theirs are goals
and mine are troubling
questions that cause them
discomfort.
I try to pull on
the  answers

to really
hear,
not even
myself.

They all long for
love and praise.

represents their
artificial idea
of love.

I touch not on
this subject.

I chase away my madness
while drunk and too
high to keep up with
my own shadow.

You'll find me in
the darkness if I let
you.

I'll have the pistol in
my pocket, a bottle
in my hand
and this dead
end love on
the mind.

I spied it first from my upper deck,
a huge nest of driftwood, tree limbs and seaweed.
Each summer watching the male do his sky dance
while spotting prey underwater
from 30 meters above Hells Gap Marsh.
His wings constructed in a manner
that allows him to bend and shield
his eyes from the sun as he lands.

The first thing I would look for
after each hurricane took another bite
out of our coastline.
And after six succeeding hurricanes
the nest still strong in the top of the old tree, though
empty in the cold months as the Osprey winters south.
Several generations of young I've watched grow
through summers in my time here.

For two full years now the nest has stood empty.
Mates for life have parted.
No more young learning to hunt the fish.
Standing  as a metaphor
for my own
soon to be empty nest.
A reality, not just a
syndrome.

The Osprey (Pandionidae).  A most awesome bird of prey.
Hours go by, lying in my bed,
Endless thoughts running through my head;
Some of excitement, some of dread
As I watch my dark heart bleed red.

What to do with this long, black night?
Pray for sleep with eyelids shut tight
Against the horror and the fright
Of the things that are not quite right.

But elusive sleep never comes
And all I hear are distant drums,
Beating out their ominous thrums,
Accompanied by wailing hums.
When I was young and bold and strong,
Oh, right was right, and wrong was wrong!
My plume on high, my flag unfurled,
I rode away to right the world.
"Come out, you dogs, and fight!" said I,
And wept there was but once to die.

But I am old; and good and bad
Are woven in a crazy plaid.
I sit and say, "The world is so;
And he is wise who lets it go.
A battle lost, a battle won--
The difference is small, my son."

Inertia rides and riddles me;
The which is called Philosophy.
Brown and furry
Caterpillar in a hurry,
Take your walk
To the shady leaf, or stalk,
Or what not,
Which may be the chosen spot.
No toad spy you,
Hovering bird of prey pass by you;
Spin and die,
To live again a butterfly.
A heavy mist of disappointment has gradually began to dampen the sidewalk
The sidewalk where I spewed my dreams thoughtfully chalked
I stood over them like a canopy of dead trees
Stopping only the least skilled of rain drops
And even they sly down my side in a snake-like slide
Streaming through the cracks, a rainbow lost of her majestic power; My dreams
In a colorful dust
Floated on top like hot chocolate powder
Yet here I stand, for the fallen dreams
Soaking and sopping
And although you couldn't tell if i'd not mentioned it
These are salty rain drops from the clouds in my eye sockets
Not just another one of mother nature's venting tempers
Oh, the downpour
The hum of passing splashing strangers
Was never perceived in such a blundering manner
But I will rebuild
I will always begin
When you" rest"
I shall pen
Stares at him a blank page
Stares at him a blind rage
Stares at him a maddening pause
Stares at him an indeterminable cause

It seems so unfair
Before him is only laid bare
A taunting silence
Tearing into his patience
Dragging him down to bottom
Raising him up the cliff
Tossing him in the storm
Showing him no relief!

And it’s precisely then
Over the shattering pain
Emerges a newly born light...

He feels a palpable might.

He rejoices in its voice.

Past the night’s turbulence
Would be revealed at the dawn
The hidden shapes in the silence
The picture fully drawn!

A picture sans all flaws
For you drawn on the canvas
Making redundant a cause
For effects that far surpass!
