The thing

That we have to remember

Our moments

Are precious and brief

Old time

Is a hammering ocean

And life

Is a vanishing reef

I cannot replace a loss like Kathy

Who inspired my world of rhyme

Who encouraged my neatest metaphors

And urged me take the time

She cheered me to the loftiest

And made me reach plateaus

I never even knew before

I'd have the will to go

She was a poet and an angel

This human in disguise

She touched my life and made me see

A world beyond my skies

She kept my quill original

And made my words more wise

She'll come by I know she will

Each time my fire dies

When Adam and Eve played love's old game
We thought early romance a little too rough
We wanted kinder and gentler rules
We looked at it good and added our touch
We turned it sideways and looked at some Masters
Cleopatra and Marcus, Burton and Liz
We looked through history and weighed each technique...
Studying hers and studying his

        We re-invented love
Applied TLC without the big rush
Someone had to do it; it was way overdue
And no one gets in it quite like me and you
        Making it perfect, re-inventing love

We wanted to see the sexes more equal
From Rome to Paris we studied their style
We watched new positions in old Kuma Sutra
In Mumbai and Murmansk to the banks of the Nile
Now when they ***** a great Hall of Fame
The applause will come down falling on us
They'll put our names upon a big plaque
Everyone marvelling and making a fuss

        CHORUS

Bridge:   Now the cave man technique is gone from romance
Barbarians no longer can come to the dance

Today is where it's at the wise men say
But tomorrow's where it is for many men
I spend my time believing in another day...
Yesterday warmed over again.

Some folks say I'm only wasting time
But love like ours is just too good to end
So I take that direction as the only way...
Yesterday warmed over again

SO IF I SHOULD NEVER SEE HER LOVING  FACE
NEVER FEEL HER WARM LIPS BRUSH MY SKIN
I DON'T NEED THE LIES ABOUT TOMORROW
I NEED YESTERDAY WARMED OVER AGAIN

She ran away with someone new in town
Too full of life to stay and love one man
But she didn't know she left me with a sunny day...
Yesterday warmed over again

I'll kiss away the bitterness
That never should have been
I'll hold your body close to mine
And feel your anger end

I'll trace the hollows of your waist
So slender in design
I'll feel your warm love clinging
And know you're glad you're mine

I'll feast my eyes and celebrate
The wonders I can see
In all the facets of the girl
Who gives her love to me

We'll listen to the winter wind
Go whistling through the trees
And light a burning fire so bright
Creating memories

Life made me mean and I took it out on everyone in sight
I never loved a man on earth and I wouldn't treat 'em right
They told me I looked mighty good; that never made me change
Till I met this wiry cowboy who rode in from the range

This ugly tempered cowboy neglected union dues
He'd sleep with mountain lions when he had the choice to choose
If he wanted sump'm bad--best to say you're the master
He's got more hair upon his chest than a grizzly in Alaska

HE DROVE HIS JACKHAMMER LOVE THROUGH THIS CONCRETE HEART OF MINE
THIS MAN ATE NAILS FOR BREAKFAST; HE COULD SNAP A GEORGIA PINE
BUT HE MADE MY HEART GO PITTY PAT AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE
HE DROVE HIS JACKHAMMER LOVE THROUGH THIS CONCRETE HEART OF MINE

He wouldn't take no sass from me; wouldn't treat me like a lady
He knew that I meant yes when I told that cowpoke maybe
I told him I could love no man so cowboy move along
He told me Honey shut your mouth, and for once I got it wrong

I saw two birds upon a limb

One was her and one was him

One was courting; one was shy

I figured out which was the guy

I liked his moves strong and bold

He sashayed closer in his role

But she was busy with a worm

While he was anxious for his turn

But then a bigger cousin came

And took her dinner, what a shame

Number one bird watched her go

Chasing cousin Romeo

Who stopped and let her share his worm

Funny how a road can turn

The best laid plans of bird and man

You never know what life will hand
