You were easy to take for granted
in the past
That explains just why
it  didn't last
I missed you here as soon
as you said goodbye
You know a good love
when it dies

I know how much it meant
to hold you close at night
'Know how much I need you...
since you're gone from sight
I know how to know
when true love passes by
You know how good it was
when it dies

I've lost a woman once
or thrice before
It might have hurt a month
or two--no more
But I still see
our memories going by
You know a good love
when it dies

He stands 3 feet high
Tears in his eyes
Using every trick to make me stay
It always hurts
To leave him for work
I'll miss him each step of the way

I know by his hug
He needs all my love
It almost makes both of us cry
But I must resist him
Abide by the system
So I kiss him and tell him goodbye

He needs to be heard
When he tries a new word
I wish I could be there some way
No work means no pay
So I'm on my way
But I wish I could watch him today

Just once in his life
He'll stand 3 feet high
I guess there's no one to blame
Every hour he goes thru
He learns something new
If I miss it it would be a shame

Cause I miss a lot when I leave him
Once I took him to daycare and left
When I called in at three
They reported to me
Good news....he took his first step

I pass the picket fence
And reach the door way
I go down the lonesome hall
And feel the chill
The bed with tangled sheets
Like lovers left it
She told me I would miss her
And I will.....

CHORUS
Tonight the silence says it all
There's no love and laughter
To warm these lonesome walls
There's a note that says goodbye
Hanging on the bedroom wall
Tonight the silence says it all

I see that faded rose
Pressed in the bible
The one I bought you
On that springtime day
It reminds me of the vows
We made together
And the promises we broke
Along the way

CHORUS

Bridge:  I know that I was giving all
                        That I could ever be
                        But all she really wanted
Was a little more of me.....

I'm sometimes in the limelight
Not by my own request
But there are young observers
And I must pass their test

They'll be evaluating
The character they see
And some of them may imitate
The side I've shown of me

So let the smile be friendly
This helping hand no less
And let my legacy be one
Of having shown my best

I've heard it said that I'm supposed to love my fellow man
Some people make that hard to do but I do the best I can
Some speak of the golden rule but stick it to their fellow man...
I love humanity but some people I can't stand

Congress has a real big smile for all us little folks
Why do they look so happy when I'm unemployed and broke
Keep 'em poor and humble; that seems to be the plan...
I love humanity but some people I can't stand

Humanity's gonna go way out and reach the stars someday
Hope he won't spread that kind of love all across the Milky Way
Cause when we mine their gold and leave 'em sand I can just hear that little green man...
"I love humanity but some people I can't stand"

Preachers keep their hands stuck out for money from the poor
They'll take the shirts right off your backs just to keep your conscience pure
Then they'll drive their big old coup de villes right past my old tin can...
I love humanity but some people I can't stand

CHORUS
Louis Brown Jan 2012
Between your expectations

And mine

I become

The man you see

From traits of those

Who touch my life

And arrange the assembly

Of what I become
Louis Brown Jan 2012
You know the truth

Already in your heart

Intuition

Has all answers

From the start

As roses

Don't ask how

They just bloom

Upon the bough

Be still

And truth unfolds

Within your heart
