Sway
Jeffrey Pua Feb 2015
I got caught up in poetry.
Her eyes, her hazel, are poetry.
Her hair, swaying,
Languidly left me
With purpose,
The tussle
Of a clumsy
Serenade.

Since she left,
The guitar strings
Echo her questioning.
They move
As though
To flicker back
To her eyelids,
To sway a feeling
Back to hope,
To dreams,
Coming back
To me.

Cruel is a day
So calm
     Without her.

Her soul is poetry.
She got me singing,
Covering
That Bic Runga song
Over and over,
Lulling the sun
To a blue blanket,
To sleep
One afternoon.

Yes, I miss her,
Clear as a sentence
Simply put,
     A ballad.

But there is no fear
     In love.
          I convince myself.

Love is patient
     Before it is kind.*

It took a leaf
     And a thousand more
To make this blinding sun sparkle,
And time crafted the elements altogether,
But your eyes took this kiss,
     Just this kiss,
          And then no more.*

Jellyfishing
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
Her heart is softened,
Throbbing out of its depths,
From the core of its logic
And the very shell of doubt,
Piecing itself, a-hundred,
Glowing forth majestic, free,
Lighting up the cavity, the walls
Of her reserve, only, just because
You show yourself pure and true,
You persist, and brave, and loose
Your inner chivalry.*

I write a piece remastered as though
To make love. It is when my poem engages
And at the same time disengages,
Where the reader keeps wanting, and
Bare, barely, retaliates.

So the poet was a man
And the reader was a woman.
When I write, I hold
And hold her hips.
And the pull was the pull
Of the lips of our kiss.*

Close
Jeffrey Pua Apr 2015
O mystic mesmerizers you close, and weep, and burn, glorious,
And beam inward this light of night from young rose to bud maiden,
And slip, sleep, slim in my arms as in a dream I had truly lived,
Failed life in reality, championed love, lose fame, and flame,
Pressed and flavored lips with you, and savored, fashioned
The silhouettes and silences of our doing,
For you, you only, only because, had eyes that were fireworks
Fireworks imploding, captivating, and are twin mimosas, phoenices,
And are falling back perfected into a sacred place,
A mornstar to the early dew, the first of this clumsy heart.*

Stare
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
For your eyes only, I am all eyes only,
Starving myself off, courting you
     With fewer blinks.

Now, let us be silly, dear,
Blush. I want this warmth.
I’ve had enough of our elbows
     Always meeting, always kissing.

Let us talk, converse,
For once, in silence.
Look at me.
     Just look.

I am intrigued now
     More than ever.*

Fated
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
Strangely, my feelings drifted towards forgetting you,
As though to lose our kisses between our two goodbyes
Or having found the truth of not being loved by you.
You know this love of mine, dearest,
You know how to breathe. You know that I need you.
This hyacinthine sky does not appear reasonless,
Neither your body, your eyes, which swayed me towards love,
For you are one, my love, only, so I believe in fate.
But when you go and then return
And then decide to go again, it is then,
That my hand was certain of your farewell
And like that picture that slipped off of your fingers,
Consequently, I have forgotten you so sudden,
So fast, in fact, so swift that my heart
Does not leap towards yours anymore,
Nor my lips lower for that kiss.
And this is where I'm sure
That this must be goodbye,
     This must be our fate,
          Apart, alive, asunder.*

Last Act
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
Between lovers, I shall stand
To hinder, not the vows but my heart
For my love will drift only in closer truth,
Thus, with pain it is absolute.

My tears, I shall let them fall
For a drop will burden me,
Free myself from wanting still,
     Rest my eyes with certainty.

I think, in dreams, she shall visit,
Her simple smiles I will recall,
But I won't ponder on the sweetest
For it's most painful of them all,

For that glow is what I cannot,
     Nay, what I'll never bring.
It is what both of them share,
Which I envy now,
And which I know, somehow,
     Proves that I'm triumphant,

For it's my duty, my purpose,
To bring her
     To a better place.

     Farewell, then, my love.
          Farewell.*

Should a star learn to hurt another

As I, for one, am also capable,
Know, that to begin with, before the impact
Or little lightyears back,
We were not from different constellations.

I want to bathe with our lips in the sea of our kisses,
Luring out the young laughter from the depths of your soul,
Lather the thin foam of the blue poem that is a rose sometimes,
And reconcile your senses to a deep sadness, to the ways of its touch
As though to fish for the ripple, for the boot of your heart,
And wade out your breast, your chest, your tenderness,
Drown fragile towards you, in you, as a piece,
The center, a bait for your blossomlove.*
