Don't Try
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
Love me by that glow, love me
By not loving me, love me only
When you're not doing so,
And I'd stop loving you day by day.

Do not bargain for that kiss.
Do not count the times,
Nor the ways that lead to it.
Do not hide behind your lips, your curves.
Be that light risen from you,
          Do not be the shadow.

Don't even tell me that your love
Is something that you carry, nor
It is the Moon that changes over time,
For it would break me, knowing
That you have lost it,
For it would change me over time.

My love, know
That what I ask of you
Is love. So please
Be that love,
     Please...*

          Just be You.

But it is when I kiss you
That I rush the poem of love,

And the righteous time delays
Its clockwork move,

And all the writers, old and new,
Write to agree with me.

Only when I kiss you...

When you begin...
     ...to kiss me back.*

Toward
Jeffrey Pua Feb 2015
Nobody stares at female eyes
And looks unto his past:
You're looking at your future,
Otherwise, you'd just glance,
Or look at her feet, tilted,
Glamorous, as though
They're reaching
An improbable kiss.

Well I am nobody tonight,
And I've said too much adjectives
By not speaking too much.
And too much is okay
As long as she's the gilded one,
Bearing it all in one light,
Not casting shadows on me
But leaving me blinded.

If love is not blind,
Then what else would be?
But I look at her with love,
And I look forward.

I've grown a rose on my chest
By being patient,
And cleared my throat too much
For cough that won't come.
I could have walled my back
Forever, but tonight
Love...is looking back.*

The Fault In Meditation
Jeffrey Pua Feb 2015
If we can finally hear ourselves,
Because we like to talk, would we be
Asking questions or give answers?

I know I've been asked like this before.
And I fear for the answer I might say.

For we listen to the movement,
The current, not water, not time,
Not ever, yet we respond
     Like a ripple.*

New Page
Jeffrey Pua May 2015
If so, this earnestness requited be,
That as I move the mountains this, then that,
Your eyes, they turn to me,
To ignore the world for coffee cups,
For clumsy poetry,
And then, to listen closely,

Then consider this poet gone,
A word ahead from you,
A blank page behind,
To sweet, sudden silences—
A kiss, a dot, and are ellipses,

For when I love you,
Because you make me want to,
You wring the clothes of my heart,
The high sun is wet,
And I have nothing left to hide.*
