Careless
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2014
The cares in the world are as little
As the arcs your eyes make
When you smile--
Whenever you smile.
This interaction--soul to soul,
Silly, with both stares bending, ending
In laughters. I cannot pair my thumb
To the lower detail of your lips.
I cannot cuddle your pains
In the past. I cannot quite conclude
How your hips sway me
Towards hope than to surrendering.

You are the type that needs
Chasing, after falling for.
I have to be happily ever after you
Or be sad forever.
I am the lovesick
Wanting to be the one
Who feels for you,
For your forehead, your neck,
Assessing for fever
In vain.

The little I do understand
About love,
I forget little by little.
Little by little, I petal you
To the glory of such force,
Of such feeling, its truest,
Simple and bravely.
Slow is the death we die for love;
Forever is what it takes.

Dear, in the darkest days of life,
My love, my only, I want you
To save your life
That is also mine. I want you
To take everything necessary,
For you to start a new one.
Leave sorrow. Take air away.
I won’t be selfish of all-you
For all-me.

I won’t be jailing your heart
For me,
For the best things in life…
…are free.*

Maybe if I kiss you
With a spiral of my kisses
From the common cocoon
Of the secret butterflies
Or that grand oval
Of your young navel,
Then I can reach, somehow,
Your hairtips, their ends,
The follicles, and your fingers,
O sweet, sweet fingers,
And propagate
Some flowers there.*

To Promise
Jeffrey Pua Oct 2014
Lower down the silly guard
Of your charisma,
Let your ears reveal the pull
Your smile creates
In certain corners
Of this sanity,
And let me love...
...You.

I would vow to keep your hands
In mine forever.
I know none of stars
That shine tonight
As brighter than this love- its eyes.
Much better,
Let me love...
...You.

Feel the rush, the icy blue
Of this perfection.
You won't have to stay in slumber.
Let me lower down a shoe.
Let me feel the hair you grew for me.
And you will take me in, a beast.
I promise,
I will love...
...You.

Now.

Let me love...
...You.
Now.

Insight
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
I can stare at you all day,
Though people say
     That love is blind.
And love is blind for me, for me,
Only for we have faith
     To live by.

I love the thought that eyes can be
Windows, that I’m starting
To fashion an idea
To serenade the feminine soul
     With the chivalrous heart,
With all strings of it,
     Of its acoustic guitar.

Seeing your eyes–
The daughters of their parent dreams,
How they looked at something
Less prettier than them
For more than twenty years,
How they stared at someone
Much prettier than them
On bodies of water,
And at the face on the mirror,
And at the very heart of God,
Seeing how their glances at me,
Excite me, terribly, (though having no coffee)
     Into palpitations,

Hunching that their closing
     Are just as equally endearing
As when they are opened,
Smiling, for the love-blind to see,
I realize, I understand, sweetly,
     Why two gaze-bound stars
     Are blinking, beautifully…
          …apart.*

Isle
Jeffrey Pua Mar 2015
Waves on the waterfront.
Sun eloping with the sad waters, the lulling ones,
Leaving forlorn the lavender froth
     Of this mischievous sky.

The wind fled and felt heavy
And heavily so for what it cannot touch.
A cicada sings to the ghost of his lover.
A tree misses, always missing,
     Its first leaf.

And I miss her...

The frost of our memories
Thaws away to my soul
As the slow burn of remembering.
And this time, for the very first time,
My heart felt
     Like an inhabited isle.*

Phases
Jeffrey Pua Mar 2015
The mysticism of the moon,
The curvations,
And your ****** contour—
What phases are you in?
What hands do I have,
That I get to play
With beams and shapes,
And spaces and stars?
What bending of finger
Could call me better
Than yours?
What flick of tongue?
What advancing hesitations?
Your caresses, syrupy,
Divine, nightly, have been
Dripping all over me.
What else can I say?*

I'm yours.

Free your butterflies with a kiss,

On our mouths, our lips,
And plant without a seed.*

To Live
Jeffrey Pua Oct 2014
If I were to die,
If this life be remembered
Like diminutive things
You unknowingly admire,

If little by little, you will go
Leaning towards me,
In which once
You were too hesitant,

If I mattered in this instant, just now,
If I, in this time, a very token from me,
And you see me fit for remembering,

If I were to depart, love, if I were to,
Then see me fretful,
That the things which I cannot hold on,
Might smile on,
And me leaving.

If I were to die love, if I were to,
And you'd just come to me, I am alive.
It is because no matter how old
Or ageless time is,
It would be as if
It was only born today:
If I have you, I have forever.

You are an inkling of life to hold on to.
Be it for love or not that you inch yourself close
For reaching, just for reaching.
I would be, would seemingly be,
Like a night without its fireworks
And you
A love song.

One Smile
Jeffrey Pua Sep 2014
It is when I remember your smile
That I remember to smile.
Not smiling outwardly,
But having that hope
Of days brighter,
Now that you have come my way.

I have come a long way from sad
To not-sad, only to be drifted here,
Seeing you,
Once,
And then not having to see you again,
But still end up happy,
And definitely
Wanting to be happier.

It is when your lips part and un-part;
It is when your eyes blink and un-blink,
That a man focuses
And be out-of-focus at the same time.
I have forgotten to pay my fare.
I have forgotten to get your number.

It is when a man writes this thing down
Right away, impulsive.
It is when a poem is not as beautiful
As to whom it is pertained to.
It is when a man writes something down
On a receipt.

I better keep a frown ready,
When I am down,
That I may be reminded
Of that gift you have.
And then I’d smile.

This is when a man makes you matter.
This is when a smile is both inside and out.
This is when you smile me out of lonely.
This is when you smile me in
To the very Word of God.

And now
This one smile
Has two smiles
To smile about.

Now I go,
Straightforward,
Saying:
You had…
…the sweetest smile.

Say It
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
As if I were to cross the street
To be beside you, I am,
Without a second thought,
Writing for you, a poem, a leaf of it
From the branch of the tree
Of the dirt of the Earth
     This skyline loved.
You are as heaven
As the heaven I am believing-in.
     Believe me.
I shall wait no longer.
I would dare not live with regret
And sit by an old park bench
     Alone, saying,
You are the one whom should I eat
     This sandwich with.
So I love you.
     I say I love you.

          There.*

Obvious
Jeffrey Pua Nov 2015
This better be love for you, a kiss,
A stranded sail you could believe in
At the far-end of the shore.

I await in the distance as though
To throw pebbles to your window.
Steadfastly, I would wait for signs
That should soon come
     Or might never come.

Dear, I sing winds away to your hair,
And as fingers, to pinch
     Those doughy cheeks.
I am making this
     Most obvious.

Still, if you would take these lightly,
Find it strange that you matter most to me,
     Then pluck among the petals,
Pluck among the hyacinths around you,
And hear me say: "He loves you",
As I always say, because I want to.

So this is love,
     Love that can't be measured,
Love that is not bounded
By time, nor distance, unfailing,
     Like new hope,

Like two roses
     Blossoming further
Into full-grown butterflies
That are to meet
     In this lifetime
          Or the next.*

I like the improbabilities that go with love,
Just as when I held your hand
But never really held it,
As the physicists would oppose to the idea,
Saying that it is because
Of the electrons and stuff, and quantum stuff
Which I find so hard to believe.

(But you, dear, frankly,
You need not make me believe,
Only wonder.)

See, I look
At you, closely,
And closer still as if
Two comets, themselves, defied
The distance of lightyears,
For me,
Just to look back.

You are a star, love, I think,
And I have likened my self to the Universe,
Not because you are near,
But because you are far,
Yet far enough...

So I could love.*

It is amazing how you can whisper
Vaguely to the lips, venturing lightly
From light to light, pressing on,
Then, in your absence,
In the shadows, resound in the mind
Like shouting, like hushing,
Like sshh, or that Howie Day song,
Resenting our goodbye,
Lulling me to an outer sleep,
To reawakening.
It is amazing how you can
Draw me back with your silence,
And steal the serenity,
And change the given mood.
Not many can do that,
Not, with an enigmatic heart.
You speak grander than the stars
And the stars only listen, hear,
Eavesdrop, over and over
As we kiss, and dream
And me dreaming on.*
