He used you and abused you!

He swung from you budding boughs
And slept securely in your shade.
Then abandoned you for years somehow.
Sold your apples and spent the money he made.

He used you and abused you!

Cut off your branches to build his house.
Then chopped down your trunk to craft a boat.
Both times leaving you as lonely as a plagued mouse.
O' he returned, when his selfish ideas didn't float.

He used you and abused you!

Finally, all he could take was a rest.
You straightened so he could sit on your stump.
This was criminal and not stated in jest,
The metaphor said it all, when the last part you kissed was his ****!

He used you and abused you!
What was wrong with him?
More importantly, what was wrong with you?
This children's story always made me feel so bad for the tree. Though, most people read it as a happy story.      It doesn't have great flow, but I like the content.

Po' Boy (Kyrielle)
Chuck Jul 2013
That boy ain't too much to look at.
During sports, on the bench he sat.
In any game, he'd always lose.
But ****! He sure could sing The Blues.

In school, he barely made the grade.
His memory was sure to fade.
In weekend dives, he made the news.
'Cause ****! He sure could sing The Blues..

All of the pretty girls around
Chased him in the clubs in the town.
He's not the boy fathers would choose.
'Cause ****! He sure could sing The Blues.

He couldn't grasp the fame and crowd.
His nerves lept as they screamed so loud.
Got his courage from too much *****.
But ****! He sure could sing the blues.
This is my first attempt at a Kyrielle. Rebecca Askew always writes them so well, I thought I'd give it a try. Thanks, Becca!

What? Poetic justice?
Chuck Mar 2013
"What can I write a poem about?" - student
Anything you see, feel, or think about. - me
" I don't feel or think anything."
O.k. Then, write about a strong memory.
"I don't remember anything."
Write about something you love.
"Nothin."

Just a part of a ten minute conversation on poetry topics.
Poetic justice?
Teaching is easy!?!

The student held a stone (used as a hall pass).

Write a poem about talking to a stone. - in my head
Poetic justice!
Thought I'd share a poetic moment from my day. It is poetry because Anon C. told me that anything I write is poetry, because I'm a poet. Thanks Anon.

Chuck May 2013
He's a knife with no bullets.

But I do know what time it was.

I write like a bull in a Chinese Restaurant.

When in doubt, look up.

Ramblings of a crazy man seem insane.

I'm lost but I'm not unlisted.

Why aren't cell phones permitted in jail cells?

If one looses his mind, does he find his keys?

Why are you reading this song?

If rabbits multiply, do cats taste good with pickles?

If this doesn't make sense, does it make change?

If the glass is half empty, who drank my beer?

If language is fun, explain French class.

If a dog is man's best friend, why can't he buy me a gift?

If I'm having a stroke, should I go swimming?

If I have a heart attack, should I fight back?

If two heads are better than one, why doesn't anyone want two heads?

If love feels like a punch in the gut, I'll ouch you lovingly
Just having fun. I'm not drinking. If you didn't enjoy this, why did you read it? I really had fun writing this. If I wasn't tired, I could go on forever with this nonsense!

Miles of Thoughts
Chuck May 2013
Alone on the road today
Miles to wander to ponder
Hours to fuel the engine
With thoughts, conundrums
Pedal, perspire, perspective
Miles to wander to ponder
Visions of nature flash
Before my glazed eyes
Buds, bugs, and a streaming current
River rushing, birds flittering
Engine hammering pedals
Miles of beauteous nature
Miles of freedom and euphoria
Mile after mile of thoughts
And all I dreamed about
Was you
Mile after mile after mile
Of you
This can be changed to kilometers for my non American friends. Haha Mile sounds more poetic to me.

One
Intwinde in bliss
Cold and still
Chirps and flutters
Pecks and squawks
Bursts of breeze
Cold winter chill
Melding with the trees
One with self and earth
Hours pass, soul calms
Peace in a chaotic forest
One with nature and self
Death floats and spins
Only to promise life renew
There's hope in the decay
As a seed is planted
In my heart and soul
The deer pass by in stately grace
Squirrels hustling to prepare
Birds dancing on a wing
And my soul sings
Cleansed once again
For another year
True love of a son
For his earthly mother
Truly whole, truly one

"Chopped"
Chuck Mar 2014
My wife I'll love, for years to come
But if she would ever pass or leave me
I'll audition a new love, no three
I'll challenge the ladies to a game of fun

I'll make my own game of "Chopped"
They'll cook, I'll taste and evaluate
I must chop one, I won't hesitate
From three to two, they'll be cropped

I have a sophisticated palette or taste
Burgers, pizza, steaks, potatoes sweet
Chefs are ecstatic, pleasant, and neat
Yet I need to stay slender in the waste

Who am I trying to fool or trick
Women won't compete to feed me
If I want to eat, there is one solution I see
"You will have to make a phone call, Slick"

             I've "been chopped!"
Watching the cooking show Chopped with the fam. Just felt like writing a silly rhyme.

The Meaning of Life
Chuck Jun 2015
I'm not a wise man
And I'm not as old as the sea
I do what I can
To figure out life for me

Life is the moments we make
The meaningful ones we never forget
And the ones that seem like a waste
Breath in each moment, so there are no regrets

Tell stories, both good and bad
Find entertainment in the benign
Be proud of the mistakes, not sad
Because this life I'm making is all mine

Seasons
Chuck May 2013
Twenty-five years ago
Upon the cold driven snow
I dreamt of future days
Of us in a summer haze

Seasons were born then passed
Our weathered love didn't last
Another summer now
You're still in my head somehow

Days gone by, all grown up
Once dreamt of sipping the cup
The season brought me wisdom
Dry mouth, yet breathing freedom

In the winter of my youth
I thought that you were truth
Now in the summer of life
I'm glad you aren't my wife
This is not at all autobiographical. I actually just wrote this with the number 25, snow, summer, and the form in my head. I think it turned out ok. I hope you like it.

It's time to get back in the race
Or is it a nuclear war:)

Grab a cup of joe
Stop in the office
Fake a huge HELLO
I'll shake my rallying fist:(

The room is all ready
The papers are out
I'll start to get sweaty
I'll want to shout:()

The gates will squeak open
Warning me that they'll come
I'll get on my knees hopin'
That this isn't the last day one()

The students will pour in
I'll smile and I'll mean it
It's a gift not a curse or a sin
I need to believe it:))

I'll begin my first class
We'll learn about writing
The time will fly past
No one will be fighting:)

Class two will slowly start
It starts rollin' now
In the end it'll be sad to part
'Cause we'll make it somehow:/

I'm blessed to do what I do
Not to sound like a sap
The youth is a gift, it's true
But, only if I could nap:(

Bottom of the Ocean

I am at at the bottom of the ocean
Baffled how I am still breathing
Wondering how I transcended
Viewing the world with 20 thousand leagues
Of liquid obstruction to distort my view
I am at the bottom of the ocean
The world does not pause
No one will toss me a line
It is my choice
Surrender to this aquatic haze
And possibly drown
Or belligerently swim to normalcy
The saltwater clouds my mind
I am at the bottom of the ocean

Do you know?
Do you want to know?
Why ask a question not answered?
Is it possible to breath without living?
Can you watch without seeing?
Do you believe what can't be proven?
Why should we keep faith when we've been lied to so many times?
Do you believe everything you read?
What book are you reading?
If one religion is true, will all others burn in some kind of hell?
Why do winning athletes think God likes them more than the losers?
Do people believe what they want to believe?
What? Why?
