The cadence slowed to near zero
Spandex is lying in waste
The corruption of an American hero
Ended our love for the race

The country once cheered for a bike
Though most didn't understand
Beating cancer, Germans, and the French, we did like
So we began to clap our hands

Not all is lost for cycling folks
We still have our bikes and gear
So wax the carbon frames an tighten the rear spokes
A conned youth might excite French fear
Pedal!!! Le Tour is ours next year.

Addicted (Step 1 of 10)
Chuck Mar 2013
Hello, my name is Chuck
(Hello, Chuck!)
It feels strange
To be here
I've been addicted
My entire life
However, the past three months
Have been a verbal blur
Upon awaking,
I get a fix
Before coffee stimulates
My corpse
To be totally honest
Sometimes
I do it at work
Sleep alludes me
Because
It parties in my veins
At first
My mind was clouded
From peering
Into the eyes
Of the beast
Now, it haunts
My family
Disrupting the harmony
There within
I must
Sleigh the
Monster
Or
At least
Tame it

Hello, I'm Chuck
I'm addicted to
Poetry
(Grinning as I type)
Admitting
There is a
Problem
Is the first step
I keep trippin'!
Upon reflection after a discussion with my family. I love poetry, but I can't let it interfere with my number one love, my family. It's been wonderful the last three months on Hello, but I need to spend less time on my iPad. I will read all of your poems. I just have to control my addiction, so I never have to quit cold turkey! It is your fault! You are all just so **** talented! No, the culpability remains mine alone.

Poetry conceals the meaning
But reveals the emotions.
It speaks of love,
But lies about the pain.
It shines bright as it exalts,
But shades the motives within.
Poetry cleanses the soul,
Yet releases the beasts within.

Chuck Nov 2013
The sun is shining
The sky is baby blue
The crimson trees are waving
And I'm loving you

The air is crisp
The day is true
The squirrels are dancing
And I'm loving you

The Autumn smiles
The long days are through
The people are praying
And I'm loving you

My children are in your hands!

Drill today, **** tomorrow?
My children are in your hand!

Elect your foil, who is owned by oil?
My children are in your hands!

Pollute the oceans, contaminate the soil?
My children our in your hands!

Can't you hear, don't give the Indian a tear.
My children are in your hands!

Clean the lands, sweep our sands!
My children are in your hands!

Plant a tree or cut your mother's knees?
My children are in your hands!

Spread the hate, not tolerate?
My children are in your hands!

Destroy for power, your only here an hour?
My children are in your hands!

Hit your women and keep on sinin'?

When Snow Falls
Chuck Dec 2012
When the snow falls
And the roads become thick
With the a white stop sign,
The cars cease, the schools close,
And, sure, the mail still comes.

I look out the window,
See the vast frosted horizon
And begin to feel closed in,
Until, I decide to put pen to paper.

When snow falls,
I run through May fields
And escape to exotic lands
Reading and writing
When Snow Falls!

Alone in a Crowd
Chuck Feb 2013
Thousands of ants creeping and crawling
Around and over me
Forty floors, no one cares I'm falling
They mean nothing to me

Alone in a group of eleven
I don't play the same game
The odds are against me, not even
But I do know my name

I am usually gregarious
Now, alone with my thoughts
Anonymity not serious
Warm poems in my head, lots
With a group of ten others, mostly strangers who like to gamble, at an Atlantic City Casino this past weekend. I don't gamble! Not a deep poem, but alone in a crowd for three days causes one to be a bit shallow an introspective. Thanks for reading.

Experiment
Chuck Mar 2013
Life is an experiment
This becomes more true
The older I get

In my youth, a year ago
I believed my story was scribed
Now, I just don't know

Mellifluous words carry me away
Sweeping me up
Causing me to question the day

Life is an experiment
Like the poems I pen
The longer words ferment
The cloudier the end

Thank you! (Not a poem.)
Chuck May 2013
Dear Friends,,

I have been on Hello since the end of December. Before that I never thought I'd ever have thousands of people read my poems  let alone provide positive reinforcement. Many of you have become very precious to me also. I recently noticed the amount of reads I've gotten, and the number blows my mind. Thank you for supporting my addiction! I love reading yours as much as you have enjoyed mine, maybe more. Keep writing everyone. Thanks for your support. You mean more to me than even a poet can express in words.

Love,

Chuck

The End
Chuck May 2013
"The End of laughter
And to lies." ~ The Doors

The end of another school year
The teachers and the children cheer
Much was taught, and much was learned
Many bridges were built and burned
Minds were shaped, and plans were laid
Friends were lost and memories fade
Kids grew up, and teachers grew young
The ladder of life was climbed rung by rung
The future is bright as the skies grow dark
Every graduate needs to make a mark
The kids come, and the kids go
They're the same, for all I know
"This is the end, beautiful friend, the end." ~ The Doors
Yet teachers see death around the bend.
"My only friend, the end." ~ The Doors
Watching my favorite band on vh1, contemplating the end of yet another school year. I had a humorous thought: I'm in school, but I'll never graduate. I'll only die. Haha

I'm only distorted by the pain many poets feel.

To the Woman
Chuck Jan 2013
You make hearts feel not well
Tortuous glances send men to Hell
You're the muse of so many poems
Why don't you let us men alone!
Come on girl, please pick up the phone!

We men should ban together
Flee from all of this bad weather
You turned us into insomniacs
We still love you, we're not brainiacs
Though, when you kissed our friend, we had heart attacks
Baby, forget these guys, please take ME back

I started this poem angry at you
Wanting to hurt your heart too
But you know I will always love you baby
Don't say yes, I'll be happy with maybe
Forget other guys, they're all crazy
They are mean, stupid, and lazy
Was angry at first, now things are hazy
You know I still love you baby

What? I'm a man. I'm weak! It's okay, just love me.
This is to answer To the S.O.B. But I couldn't be as mean to a woman. I feel the men in these type of love poems always cave. Sorry guys.

Journey
Chuck Aug 2014
I ventured on a journey all alone
Self powered also self empowered
Lonely I was but I did not bemoan
Miles washed down the drain as I showered

Met interesting folks on my bike trip
Stayed with a couple, helped me feel at home
Crashed with earthy folks, who were ultra hip
Greeted with support wherever I roamed

Climbed mountains ascending fifteen degrees
Some stretched up for miles into the blue sky
And descents that caused wobbles in my knees
As valleys and streams vanished from my eyes

Sure, I missed my wife and my kids' cute smiles
Yet, this was an adventure for legs and soul
They both grew stronger with each pedaled mile
My head was spinning as my tires rolled

Crossed my sylvan state, an empowered state
Something I just knew I wanted to do
When I made it, I had to celebrate
New Jersey was my state of soul anew

Got a phone number from the hottest woman in the place, infront of your buddies
Complained about the shabby service and got your friend's money back, like a boss
The birth of your son. The birth of your second boy. The birth of your daughter.
Aced the the the parallel parking manuver infront of your father
The surprise proposal, and the calosal surprise, "Yes!" :)

I'm burning with the acrid fuels of Hell's abominable furry!
Who or what can dredge such stifling pain?
Is it a scorned lover, or the betrayal of a trusted confidant?
Whatever it is, it shall pass as if a Prilosec hindered the pumps of acid.
Turn on the extinguisher. Get passed it. Be the antacid of your soul.

Last night I dreamed of bichons! There were bichons everywhere!
They were sleeping on my rug; they were licking my hair!
They were running on my head;
They were sitting on my bed!
They were on the roof and floor. They were on the chandeliers!
They were hiding in the covers; they were barking in my ears!
There were bichons, bichONS, BICHONS for as far as I could see!
And when I woke up this morning...there were bichons on top of me!
Morgan is my daughter. She wants to say that this is dedicated to our bichon, Daisy.
