Cat Fight
Chuck Apr 2013
Cat fight, cat fight
Meow, meow
Cat fight, cat fight
On the prow

Can't hide from the scratches
Can't have them declawed
They fight in batches
The can't be outlawed

Cat fight, cat fight
Meow, meow
Cat fight, cat fight
On the prow
This is a children's poem. I think kids can enjoy it, and kids of all ages play this game. I know the term cat fight is derogatory, but I am angered by the fact that even women on this sight fight with each other in poetry. I was asked to remove a like from a woman's poem because another woman, who I don't even know, thought it was about her. I did this time, but I don't like being censored! This poem is about all people who put personal Narcism before freedom of expression. I took the poem as a general theme not about an individual. This is a general theme, just inspired by you. Sorry, all. I sharpened my claws. Haha

Chuck Mar 2014
Many of us intellectual poets
Mock the idea of people not reading
Why, just lately, I read novels about hiking the Appalachian Trail
And several books about cycling across America
Even some fiction about gun slingers in the Wild West
And, of course, pastoral poems, sonnets, and HP's best

While many people are out experiencing life
Not reading
We are improving our vocabulary and intellect
That will prove extremely valid
Wile reading our next book
I feel sorry for the people who can't find the time to read
Because they are too busy living
How obtuse?

Poetic Travels
Chuck Sep 2013
I'm in my eighth month of this journey
There have been highs and plunging lows
Many a word has been on the gurney
I've seen poets come and poets go

It was a sixties' high to have readers
For people to comment and like my words
My advice heeders and some needers
Meaningful relationships soon occurred

It has been a place where I've laughed and cried
A world of birthdays and sweet victories
A painful universe, euphoria died
Poets passed, nothing remains but histories

The trip of a lifetime in less than a year
Why do we write, why do we read and care?
It's more than I can emotionally hear
It's more than I can emotionally bare

At one point, I was addicted to this place
Constantly reading, checking, and writing
No narcissist could persist at such a pace
With poets I did some loving and fighting

Life forced me on the highway well traveled
I decided I'd leave this country for now
Yet with this decision, I have often graveled
I always found myself looking back somehow

Oceans, mountains, dales, and unexplored bends
That's this poetic journey desired so
No matter if we're laughing or crying my friends
We poets have or want nowhere else to go
Dedicated to this blessed sight that gave me an audience for my poetry, but Oh' so much more!!! Thanks, Hello Poetry!

Happy Dog
Chuck Aug 2013
It is easy to peek over the fence when one has it all
Struggles look attractive in opposition with contentment
Drama, passion, and danger appear **** in the comfort of stability

Then why do so many long to find happiness
When happiness isn't the "be all to end all"
Is life a continuous search not for contentment but for for excitement

Still, as one grows older, smaller dangers excite
Contentment is exciting if one searches for it inside the fence
Maybe that's why the old dog stays on the porch chewing the same bone

Sing a song that all folks know
Sing a song with soul, real slow
Sing songs of triumph and pain
Sing a song and feel the hard rain

Songs of life's injustices and wrongs
Songs of protests, wars, and gongs
Songs of love and life and peace
Songs of captivity's sweet release

Sing a song that all folks know
Sing a song with soul, real slow
Sing songs of triumph and pain
Sing a song and feel the hard rain

For folks like you and folks like me
For folks who need open eyes to see
For folks who feel a tortured soul
For folks whose lives are at a lull

Sing a song that all folks know
Sing a song with soul, real slow
Sing songs of triumph and pain
Sing a song and feel the hard rain

I was cursed at
Insulted
Then hit by a car,
Yesterday.
I laughed and
Walked away.
I guess
He really
Wanted that
Parking space.
I realized
My sense of humor
Has grown
Immensely.
Their was a time
This would have
Angered me.
Life is too
Short
To be short
Tempered.
Besides,
That roadrager
Gave me
Something
Priceless,
A story.

Childhood Oak (Terza rima)
Chuck Jan 2013
O' elder Oak, how thou growest so old?
What ancient yarns thou could spin from each limb.
Wars, drought, what visions thine gray bark doth hold.

Ole Pennsylvanian wood, were thou sewn by him
Whose king's debt owed, founded this sovereign land.
Thine story hath gravid weight, not a tale told grim.

As a youth, thou were a knight's castle grand
Or a dark dragon with fiery breath.
High in thee boughs, thy mastered the farmland.

As years passed and our kinship reached its breadth,
Thy cannot help but to lament the time
That thou spied on thy joyous play. Now thy death
Looms long. To Heaven thine branches doth climb.
This is my first Terza rima. I chose to write about an ole friend in an ole form of English.  Thanks for reading. Please give constructive criticism.

Jaded
Chuck Jun 2014
She despises the world
People irritate and disgust her
Proud to be known as the rebel
Rises above the emotional clowns
Desensitized and  disenfranchised

Yet she conformed to the circus
For reasons mere mortals cannot comprehend
Hidden behind the eye of adjudication
Yet don't dare evaluate her soul
She beguiles my response with pseudo aloofness

Jaded and defended
But she entertains me with angst
Inspired by a poet.

Chuck Jan 2013
What automobile do you drive?
Is it an old Scion XB?
It's economically sound.
It looks like a toaster on wheels.

The most important question is
What automobile do you drive?
It is better than DNA
To reveal who you truly are.

Do you drive a Mustang so fast
That you can't see us broken-down?
What automobile do you drive?
Some people sure could use a lift.

Does your car cost more than a house?
You splash mud on starving faces.
Cars aren't the "be all to end all."
What automobile do you drive?
First attempt at this form. I never heard of it until a few hours ago. If you drive a nice car, p,ease don't be offended, and may I please hold a few dollars? Haha

Even The Best Mothers Muddle
Chuck Jul 2013
Even the best mothers muddle
Some are just more subtle
Than the others who stew up
Emotional storms with every cup
Of tea they poor and sip
Not a loving word drips from the lip
How dare they conceive
There are those who believe
There should be a test
To have the job that's the best
My mother McNaughton
Has never forgotten
What it means
To love all fourteen
Of her tumultuous brood
For she is shrewd
And knows what it takes to be
For she is keen to see
A muddling mother
Must be an advocate lover
No matter what
A kiss or a kick in the ****
To let her children know
Which way they should go
The is no need for insurrection
Or for the pursuit of perfection
Just love and cuddle
It is okay mother to muddle
For my mother and my poetry mother, Mamma Mae, who inspired this poem by her humility.

Dark Love (Bouts-Rimés)
Chuck Jul 2013
It's time I write a morbid verse
Of a necrophiliac's scent
A love sonnet in a dark hearse
The way sick, evil love is meant

It's sure something to remember
The cold night shaped the mood sedate
'twas an eve of dark December
Beauty lured me to procreate

Though cold and stiff, love's not inept
Melody's morose symphony
I do believe with joy she wept
Dead, she deserves no sympathy
Not a necrophiliac! This was my attempt at dark, but I think it has a humorous quality, therefor, I failed. Bouts-Rimés is when another person gives you the end rhyme words. Soul gave these depressing words to me because most of my poems are lighthearted. I gave her a list of happy words because her poems are usually dark. Check hers out when she posts it.

She is the Queen of the coffee shop
Watching over her kingdom in triumph
Yet, behold, the empty dais
The star on her crown glimmers little
In the vacuous suffocation of silence
Clink and clang from the servant's quarters
Is the only sound besides the jesting
Of new wave hauntings and jazz renditions
A once vibrant kingdom depressed in
Melancholy achings
Yet the smile on her black lips,
Frozen from a time of prosperity
The coffee shop poet is beguiled
And joins the queen in her silent musing

In the stillness of a grey day
And the rattle and hum of a clothes dryer
Subtle but distinct tweets and calls harken
From an open window wafting fresh air
They summon me out of the mystical fog
Of a mundane useless existence
The insipid chants beckon me to fly
Through the haze and humidity
From humility  To a place life exudes
Nature with its songs for dance and love

When existence is humdrum
And life is passing by
Open a door and fly

Dependent upon myself is the realization

Growing the trees
Making a mountain of snow
Blocking out everyone I know

Subsistent living
I choose to rely on only me
Because my soul must remain independent and free

A monster lurks inside of me
I try not to pet or feed it
It's best to hide and let it be
To be me, I guess I need it

My monster is honest and curt
It doesn't often try to bite
When it's fangs come out, it can hurt
It never retreats from a fight

Not all have beasts so mean and tough
I want to be loved, it not much
I want to be soft, it is rough
Maybe I'm mean and it's my crutch

I hurt loved ones, telling the truth
Friends and strangers can get bit too
My blunt, true ways have crushed the youth
My monster destroys more than you

I'd slay the monster if I could
It makes me weep, it makes me blue
I, of all people, think I should
I just want to be loved by you
This is a serious issue for me, but I love the juxtaposition when it's read like a children's poem.
