Catfish Love (Villanelle)
Chuck Jan 2013
As if I am the famous Manti Te'o
I don't need to see your true face
Loving you! Though you, I don't know

Just tell me were to go
My heart will meet you in cyberspace
As if I am the famous Manti Te'o

Your true face, no need to show
It's the thought of love that I chase
Loving you! Though you, I don't know

You might be a catfish to my woe
But your texts are full of love and grace
As if I am the famous Manti Te'o

Let your secret emails flow
You might be from some other place
Loving you! Though you, I don't know

Love is blind, when you don't show
Today, weird cyber love is commonplace
As if I am the famous Manti Te'o
Loving you! Though you, I don't know
This was my first Villanelle. It is the form of Dylan Thomas's "Do Not Go Gentle . . ." I love that poem. This is a silly topic I've been dying to write about. My next villanelle will be serious. Try this form. It is fun.

Giant Disappointment
Chuck Apr 2013
A giant has been messing
With me.
It played with my
Emotions
Like a cat toys
With a
Mouse.
When I hopped up
It knocked me down
With a flick of its
Finger.
I played opossum;
It picked me up
And patted my head
Gently.
When I forgave it
For hurting me,
It left me clinging
To the phone
Like a teenage girl
Waiting for her
Date.
It never showed
That night.
The next day
It delivered unapologetically.
Yet it stole my faith
When it
Departed.
I hate giants!
In retrospect,
I learned a giant
May be strong
And even have
A huge heart,
But on the flip side
It creates huge piles of
****!
The Giant Auto Dealership in Franklin, Pa., is the object of this poem, but I hope it works metaphorically for many situations. DO NOT GO TO The Giant!! It was the worst new car buying experience of my life!!!!  I feel a bit better now. Thank you!!!

Chuck Jan 2013
The world's expanse was enormous
Technology has shrunken the globe
Communicating use to be a performance
The world's expanse was enormous
My iPhone eliminates the smallness
People worldwide can wear the Emperor's Robe
The world's expanse was enormous
Technology had shrunken the globe
This is my first attempt at a triolet. It was an accepted challenge issued by Something......
Emperor's Robe is a reference to the story of swindlers tricking an emperor, meaning we now can be scammed from people on the other side of the world.

Brilliance in mode and tone
Elegance without loquaciousness
For language is her gift to all

Poetess your evanescence
Shines eternally in your verbiage
And the imagery that lingers

Sincerity, essential themes,
A labyrinth of life altering morals spun with
An unadulterated touch oh humor

Poetess, you are admired
Humbly honored in this plebeian's
Pedestrian attempt at articulation
This is a respectful tribute to you, poetess. You know who you are. Fun with language!

The grandest smile, braces shining
The most powerfully loving hugs
The funniest comment at the most unexpected time
Mature when he needs to be
Crying when he wants to be loved like a baby
"Stop acting like a baby."
Wishing he always remains my baby.
My "number one cuddle buddy"
Harry potter in his heart and on his face
Lover of books
Sports fanatic
Loner, as long as his family is close
Affectionate
My Son My Stars
Not really a poem, just random thoughts about my middle child. He's almost ten. He is special as are my other two in different ways. He does look like Harry Potter, first movie. He read all the books too. I'm proud to be his dad.

You are a slam dunk
A fingertip catch
And all that exciting junk

You are a bone crushing tackle
A pulled groin muscle
So painful, I'm a blushing rascal

You are the Stanley Cup
A Superbowl ring
That's what's up

~
This hurts for a poet to admit, but sometimes the sentiment is more important than the eloquence.

Coughing into a white tissue
Sneezing into my hand
Sweating when I'm cold

Hating reading poetry
Loving watching Mr. Bean
Can't sit still but too tired to move
Thinking this is poetry
Knowing the meds cause delusions
Not enjoying my family
Wishing I were asleep

I really am sick. I will probably regret this one when I'm feeling better.

Paint It
Chuck Jul 2013
When the color doesn't suit you, paint it.
When the gray wall doesn't inspire
Paint it a hue with golden sparkles.
When the sky is dark, close your eyes
Imagine streaks of sunshine shimmering
Through the happiest blue.
When your heart is stained black
Only you hold the palette and brush.
With each choice, stroke the gloom away
And paint in the joy.
If the world's colors are too bright
Throw buckets of mud on it
In order to heal the wounds.
For you are the artist of your reality.
If you don't like something,
Pick up a brush and paint it.

Punxsutawney Phil
You're so furry
And adorable
But your forecasts
Are deplorable
Thirty-nine percent true
That makes you a fraud
But cute eyes have you
Therefore a god

Early spring you say
Yet snow and low temps
Flourish today
So conflicted
By this contrast
Indoors now restricted
Godhog is Devine at last

Tomorrow swimming
No matter the mortal's forecast
You say the sun is brimming
The masses praise
Nearly naked in the snow
Why the wintery haze
No shadow, it is so

Now we stand
Swimsuits adorned
Frozen faces
Countenances Forlorn
Faithful in our belief
In you and yours
In fur and sharp teeth
Buds and flowers restore
Trees and life anew
What could go wrong
A groundhog we pray to

In Phil we trust
What's wrong with us?
Sorry! I wanted to write a tiny poem, but I couldn't stop! I live 30 minutes from the famous Punxsutawney Phil. My wife made fun of my children and I for caring what a groundhog says! It's fun, also a great movie!

Nothing gets your blood boiling

Truth evades your gray cornea

Petite energy emitted
Exhausted to convince numbness

You are the youth, the world’s future
Dissimulation not an option
Wave the white flag. We’ll still wage war
Never will you conquer concern

My comrades in texts and I’ll fight
To give hope, future, and success
Or we will perish in battle
Content knowing we truly cared

PLEASE CARE ABOUT YOURSELF!

Love envelops my languid soul
I lounge in its warm embrace
A content poet is a dry inkwell
Yet the ink is congealed with satisfaction
I refuse to allow joy to slow my quill
Too many poets quest for love through language
Many drown in the bliss of El Dorado
Lost forever, bathing in golden love
I will drink golden cups of passion
Play in priceless fieds of frienship
But I will pause to respect it's fragility
And to be a beacon for those lost in windless seas
For I once wore the albatross around my neck
My thirst is now quenched in golden oceans
I wish to be a gentle wind in the sails of the castaways
For love envelops my languid soul
And so it can and must for all
I just want to say that the love I receive from you, my friends on HP is a large part of my El Dorado.

With that statement, you changed billions of lives
You were a true friend of a tormented poet

Repetitious

The clouds float by
The breeze gently cools
Another day, another cry
Repetitive

The flowers bloom
The torrents flow
Yet narcissistically consumed
Over and over and over
Nature suggests that our tiny problems are minuscule and insignificant. We need to be reminded to get over it, see the bigger picture, and enjoy nature and life while we and the sun still is rising! It always will; we won't. Forgive me if I repeated myself in this poem. Haha

First, I'll shoot the sheriff and rob his bank volt.
Ride into town, guns blazin', deputies die!
Blow the safe, grab the girl, get shot in the thigh.
Sally starts shootin', kills the corrupt sheriff.

Merry Christmas to all who live

And to those who have no one
It's really tough for festive family fun
Instead of cheer you get a shiv

Merry  Christmas to all who sin
Because you don't pay a religion
Gifts are still nice to give and receive
Even if in Christ you don't believe
The cash register is where it all begins

Merry Christmas to all who ****

You can choke on your gifts and die
You cheat, still, spit, and lie
Anything for a lousy, greedy buck

Merry Christmas to all who hear

If friends and Santa forgot about you
Would you join me in a cup of cheer?

A master of characterization
After moments of gesticulation
Your characters become universal
Images play without dress rehearsal .
First created, an idealistic knight,
Who teaches the perfect techniques to fight.
Next danced a lad of ladies' desire .
Your words described me, "a lad of fire."
A counterfeit nun pilgrimed with the bunch.
She starved her dogs to have a second lunch,
Yet, you viewed her as whimsical and tame.
The way she faked, sung, and lied was a shame.
Still, I know this false Prioress today,
Characters such as this wont fade away.
The Miller modeled your retched Scot.
I too am Scottish, but retched I'm not!
Though we don't always view the world as one,
I have the faint soul of your pseudo son.
I too would flirt with the strong Wife if Bath,
And roam with the pilgrims down that God path.
Master at comic irony, you are
The church was corrupt, relics in a jar
Or a pardon for an extorted fee.
Friars with gifts for girls could not trick thee.
Twenty four of one twenty were finished,
But the affects will not be diminished.
They say you're number two in history.
For people like me, that's a mystery.
In a quill duel between Shakespeare and you,
You'd leap to number one, Shakespeare to two.
Shakespeare is great. I just love Chaucer's characters. This is my tribute to my greatest writer of all time. If you haven't read his tales, you must. You won't regret it. Thanks for reading!

My ability to resonate
Thoughts upon my birth

When I was a child
My mind ran wild
Over Heaven and Earth

As a teen
You best mind, I was mean
Not much, my thoughts were worth

As a married man
My mind did span
Until my first child's birth

Then it started to slip
My mind did rip
And began to spill upon the Earth

Now that I'm old
Thoughts I can't hold
What are memories worth

Where are my car keys?
What?
