Who said we all
Gotta think the same
But brother I tell ya
I’m hip to yo’ game
Because you’re everywhere
Praising his name
Which only makes me wonder
Are you still insane?

400 years
Don’t make it a choice
Cuz some of us resisted
Until we lost our voice
So how could you say that
Was your mouth still moist?
The rope remains on the tree
Where the bodies were hoist

For listening to you
I guess that’s what we get
You’re still a narcissist
Talking that ****
And if we’re not careful
You’ll get a hit
Kinda unconventional marketing
I’ll have to admit

You’re not the only paradigm
There have been Uncle Toms
Since the beginning of time
Doing what they do
Without reason or rhyme
Now it’s your turn
And it still is a crime
Because I'm afraid that you crossed the line!

SINCE IT’S BEEN US AND WE
Cedric McClester May 2018
By: Cedric McClester.

Even a blind man can see
Where I would be
If you weren’t inside of my life
Weren’t my friend and my wife
And I’m happy to say
My life’s better in every way
And I love you more
With each passing day

Guess your love is the key
Everyone can see
All that it’s done for me
Since it’s been us and we

Blessed was the day
That you came my way
And I also must say
That I’d never betray
What you’ve given to me
Baby don’t cha see
How you got me sprung
Like the words from my tongue
Guess your love is the key
Everyone can see
All that it’s done for me
Since it’s been us and we

And our passionate nights
Give me bragging rights
Of one thousand delights
Which always excites
My inner core
Serves to make me want more
And so rest assured
That I thank the Lord

Kanye you have a
Right to your voice
But If you think 400 years
Of slavery was a choice
You’ve hurt me brother
And made my eyes moist
The same way you’ve made
Our enemies rejoice

Watch the words that come
Out of your mouth
You’re praising the devil
Coz your mind has gone south
And I’d like to know
What’s that all about
I like your music
But I’m prepared for a drought

Love who you want to
Even Donald Trump
Then watch your records
Wind up in a dump
All that you’re proving
Is you’re just a chump
A tool to be used
On his next campaign stump

Why go on TV
And cut the fool
I guess that it’s not
A hard and fast rule
That everyone can swim
Who jumps in that pool
If your mother were still alive
She’d take you to school

THE ANNALS OF TIME
Cedric McClester Apr 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Let’s hope the annals of time
Are sure to record it,
HUD wants to raise the rent
On those who can least afford it
As Uncle Ben Carson
No doubt has ordered
To appease his master Trump
Who’ll surely applaud it

Carson has ordered furniture
At the people’s expense
So to call him a swamp creature
Makes perfect sense
Dirt from the wash
Will come out in the rinse
If we get rid of Trump
We’ll be left with Pense

While Trump and his minions
Live high off the hog
The average American
Is treated like a dog
What all of ‘em require
Is a careful watchdog
To keep an eye on
All those demagogues

They won’t be treated kindly
And in any case
They won’t be exonerated
Because of their race
So while I’m at it
Let me cut to the chase
Their eternal records
Can’t be erased

Even though we know
You’re a zero
Tell us how do you
Spell hero
If not what James Shaw did
In that Waffle place
Why don’t you
Make better case

He wrestled a gun
From the hand
Of an active shooter
Don’t cha understand?
Or did you calculate
That he’s black
Don’t let that
Color how you react

Your Twitter feed
Has been silent
When it comes to Shaw
Who stopped the violence
You can’t find
A thing to say
Because your bias
Gets in the way

So when it comes
To a true American hero
You just fiddle
Like a modern day Nero
And let his heroism
Pass you by
Though it’s a salient fact
You can’t deny

MISSILES WILL BE COMING…
Cedric McClester Apr 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Missiles Will Be Coming
And so will Santa Claus
On Christmas Eve
Which should give us pause
The President clearly is
A rebel with a cause
But then he always was
Adverse to our laws

Missiles will be coming
Is he declaring war,
Without the proper authorization
Like he did once before?
Crazy as he is
He’s hard to ignore
Because you see with him
You can never quite be sure

Missiles will be coming
Thought he didn’t advertise,
Now we must wonder
If he’s Obama in disguise
Faced with the same reality
That makes him realize
His *** can’t cash that check
Nor would it be wise

Missiles will be coming,
Either now or later
He’s given them a heads up,
Which makes him a traitor
To us of course, not Putin
To whom he’s vowed to cater
Because he views that despot
To be superior and greater

HE NEVER SAID WHEN…
Cedric McClester Apr 2018
By: Cedric McClester

He never said when,
But he clearly said what
Which is further proof
That the man is a nut
Who’s more than prepared
To place us in a rut
No, if ands maybes or but

He conducts foreign policy
By sound bites and twits
Because he’s unpredictable
Everyone admits
And his rationale comes
In starts and fits
Gleened from the toilet
Between taking *****

His indiscretions are
There to see
Because he’s no stranger
To adultery
So his response is,
While that may be
It‘s nothing more
Than ancient history

He notified them
Not to give ‘em a scare
But rather so they would
Have time to prepare
It doesn’t take a genius
To see treason there
But he thinks the public’s
Too dumb to be aware

WHAT IF THEY WERE WHITE?
Cedric McClester Mar 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Liberians are being forced
To return to Liberia
No need for any of us
To get uptight
The turmoil that existed
Is now nowhere in sight
But I can’t help but wonder
What if they were white?

Would he be resending
What gave them the right
To come here to America
Once they had taken flight
From the civil war and carnage
That gave them the fright
The question still remains
What if they were white?

He’d like nothing better
Than to whiten up the nation
See that’s the thing that fuels
His views on immigration
While people who happen
To have darker skin
Will have a harder time
Trying to get in

Is it racism in reverse
That undergirds the slogan
America First?
So does that mean that all others
Are destined to be cursed?
In this Orange Man’s
Alternative universe
It’s as clear as day from night
And that is why I ask, What if we were white?

The only one who
Wants a border wall is him
Though the chances
Of it ever being built are slim
Taking money from the military
Is just a Fox driven whim
Because his worst ideas
Have lately come from them

He once touted that
Mexico would have to pay
But that false notion
Is just so yesterday
Why does anyone believe
A word he has to say
Because don’t cha know
His feet are made of clay

See we only have
His lying *** to thank
That now he want to rob
Our military’s piggybank
As Commander and chief
I guess he’s pulling rank
Though Congress will have
The last word to be frank

His supporters still believe
The wall’s gonna be built
And he promotes that notion
Completely free of guilt
In fact you see him
Doing it to the hilt
Like some kind of
Crazy patchwork quilt

What does Putin
Have on him
Inquiring minds
Would like to know
Could it be
That infamous tape
That they have chosen
Not to show

They’re waiting until
The timing’s right
Before exposing it
And like
The dossier said
Putin taped
That ***** toad
Playing water games in bed

But that alone
Might not be the half
Of what they have
On him
They say that he’s
An impulsive man
Who’s often
Given to whim

What does Putin
Have on him
It’s anybody’s guess
But it’s gotta be
Quite compromising
As his behavior
No doubt
Does suggests

EASTER BUNNY
Cedric McClester Mar 2018
By: Cedric McClester

If we think of him
As the Easter bunny
Guess it was alright
For him to ***** that honey
And to keep her quiet
Pay her some money
Hoping she’d go on a trip
To some place sunny

Give her an agreement
Not to disclose
What went on between ‘em
And then case closed
Why should she reveal
What nobody else knows
Or tell what he looks like
Without his clothes

He had an election
Just a month away
So to avoid detection
He couldn’t have her say
Although his wife was pregnant
They agreed to play
Pajama games together
Like it was okay

To someone used to
Grabbing ‘em by the crotch
Without an excuse
Like he was drinking scotch
He was just ratcheting up
Another notch
But a man in his position
Is always watched

"OH, HELL NO! HE WROTE"
Cedric McClester Mar 2018
By: Cedric McClester

“Oh hell no! he wrote,”
How’d we lose that vote.
And what’s the antidote?
Someone please take note
We can’t let this float
Like a tight garrote
The words stick in my throat

Now he’s the President
I guess that’s what’s meant
By votes have consequence?
Although it makes no sense
Can we be that dense
Don’t keep me in suspense
What’s our recompense?
Now or future tense

There’s no mystery
Even the blind can see
Just look at history
When there’s no consistory
It’s been quite blistery
Without a benedictory
There’s need for inquiry
For those on the periphery?

Let’s fold our hands and pray
For a brighter day
God’s work is still at play
Everything will be okay
No matter come what may
I don’t care what you say
Hold your doubt at bay
This day and every day

CLUTCH YOUR PEARLS
Cedric McClester Mar 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Boys and girls
Clutch your peals
We’re living in
Divergent worlds
Look at the tweets
That he hurls
And the reactions
That they unfurl

Golly gee
How could this be
I wonder whether
It’s just me
Who has the vision
To look and see
We’re heading toward
Shear misery

Betcha by golly wow
It all is happening now
Yet it doesn’t raise an eyebrow
He must be a sacred cow
To whom we must kowtow
Or risk getting pow-pow
Unless we’re sure to bow
And swear not to disavow

Hey didle didle
Rome burned
While Nero fiddled
Are we just gonna twiddle
Our thumbs or solve the riddle
Let’s split it down the middle
This is not the time to piddle
Or take him off the griddle

ENIGMA
Cedric McClester Mar 2018
By: CEDRIC McClester

I can write
A thousand lines
And still
Not change any minds
Of those who live
Behind closed blinds
And are adverse
To certain signs

I can be
Oh, so Profound
With the words
That I expound
But how can I
Bring them around
If what I say
Does not resound

I can try
As I may
And still fail
To convey
What it is
I’m trying to say
When closed minds
Get in the way

I can yell
‘Til the cows come home
Or sit down and write
An epic tome
And the meaning still
Would remain unknown
Unless their understanding
Has grown

THEY CAN NEVER UN-HEAR...
Cedric McClester Feb 2018
By: Cedric McClester

They can never un-hear
The terror that they heard
They cannot forget
To put it in a word
Still nothing’s being done
Now isn’t that absurd
Because our lines of reasoning
Clearly have been blurred

They can never erase
The memories from that day
Nor in any case can they
Wash the blood away
Like a stain of indelible ink
It will permanently stay
Somewhere in their subconscious
Where it will always lay

How can they forget
That it even occurred
It’s something they regret
As opposed to preferred
Nothing’s being done
Maybe it never will
We so revere the gun
That we’re prone to ****

If we never try
Then we’re destined to fail
Until there’s only us
Left around to assail
Are we ever gonna
Come to our senses
I wish that we knew
How to mend our broken fences

EMPTY WORDS OF SYMPATHY
Cedric McClester Feb 2018
By: Cedric McClester

I don’t want
His empty words of sympathy
Or for that matter
His empathy
They’re meaningless
Don’t cha see
If a stonger follow up
Is not to be

I don’t want
Him just to visit me
To express his condolences
Cuz words are free
Doing something
Would be key
Besides blaming it
On insanity

So where the hell
Has he been
He was forced
Just to weight in
On a matter that
Should have been
Devoid of spin
But then it wasn’t his next of kin

Sometimes I wonder
What’s the use
For a president
He’s a poor excuse
He should be thrown out
With the rest of the refuse
Because he's garbage
I’m forced to deduce

HERE WE GO AGAIN!
Cedric McClester Feb 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Here we go again
Will it ever end
As long as we pretend
That we will not ascend
Into the deep abyss
For tolerating this
While balling up our fist
Are we to remain remiss?

Seventeen and counting
Their blood flows like a fountain
The death toll keeps on mounting
Cuz we are not accounting
For our sins of omission
We have the dead’s permission
To stop the deadly commission
Of ****** as an act of contrition

Must we continue saying it’s too soon
To discuss the matter, it’s high noon
As dead bodies remain strewn
And it appears we are immune
To the carnage that we see
That doesn’t have to be
Marvin said mercy mercy me?
But must we morn the land of the free?

If you are asking me
I say that it’s insanity
To tolerate the inanity
Of this situation see
No more benedictions
Let’s have the courage of our convictions
We can cure our present affliction
With some artful interdiction

CITY LIGHTS
Cedric McClester Feb 2018
You can have
Peace and quiet
But don’t expect
Me to try it
I need noise
I can’t deny it
And city lights
In my diet

Take me where
The action’s at
Don’t you know
I like it like that
Ya see I need
Those city lights
I gotta have ‘em
In my sites

If you wanna
Get down with me
It’s as simple
As ABC
Under city lights
Is where I’ll be
In a place
Where I feel free

And the answer
To this pop quiz
Is I wanna be
Where the action is
Where city lights
Are shining bright
Out of the darkness
Of the night

SPACED OUT
Cedric McClester Feb 2018
When I look at you
There ain’t no doubt
Can I give you a clue
I get spaced out
And take off
In the stratosphere
Whenever you’re near
Somehow I find myself walking on thin air

I'm in another galaxy
Light years away
Am I turned up
Guess it’s fair to say
That I’m spaced out too
Although it’s okay
You do that to me
Every night and day

Maybe you’re my launching pad
Or my rocket ship
Lifting me right off the ground
But I go well equipped
And I can’t wait to get there
Where I’m being sent
To some distant planet
Yet I arrive content

And I can’t help but think
You share my sentiment
So don’t ever ask yourself
What it’s all about
Let me put it simply
I just get spaced out
Baby you transport me
Beyond any doubt

HOW LONG DID HE THINK...?
Cedric McClester Feb 2018
By: Cedric McClester

How long did he think,
He could keep it hidden?
That he’s out there doing
The Kremlin’s bidding
He’s a liar and a traitor
From where I’m sitting
And he loves the Russians
Now the pieces are fitting

Never a harsh word
Will he utter
When it comes to them
He’s soft as butter
Cos he’s compromised
And I didn’t stutter
He’s taking our nation
Right into the gutter

Other presidents
Would have been hung
For far much less
Than the things he’s done
If he went down 5th Avenue
And fired off a gun
To **** somebody
He wouldn’t run

He doesn’t understand
That justice will prevail
It happens every time
And it will never fail
Eventually he’s gonna
Wind up in jail
But he’s got enough money
To raise the bail

CHANGE THE WORLD
Cedric McClester Feb 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Picture me
Without you
I don’t know
What I’d do
Cos you make
My life worthwhile
You put the dimple
In my smile

You are like the air
That I breathe
I need you
You best believe
You’re the rhythm
I conceive
And I don't want you
To ever leave

I wake up
Grateful you’re there
Energized
Then I prepare
To embrace
What we share
Imagine if
You were not there

Others feel
The same as me
They’re searching for
A certain key
After all
What would life be
Without a beat
Or a melody

EMPTY WORDS
Cedric McClester Jan 2018
By: Cedric McClester

They’re empty words
That have no meaning
From a man
Who’s been convening
Sycophants
That you’ll find leaning
Towards his message
Of spring cleaning

Immigrants he says
Are bad
From his perspective
When you add
Chain migration
Past the dyad
Of the nuclear family
It’s a launching pad

Give him his wall
And so he says
He’ll spare them all
‘Cos he’s the Pres’
As long as they’re
Not named Valdez
Or they’re not
From places like Juarez

He wants us all
To kumbaya
But that may be
A bridge too far
For most to ever
Reach that bar
Because he takes things
Much too far

No collusion
Or obstruction?
So what’s the logical
Deduction
When it sounds
Like his construction
Is it the truth,
Or liposuction?

You don’t think
He’d lie to us?
Be careful who you
Choose to trust
How can you be
So nonplussed?
As not to know
Lies do combust

He lays it out
Each time he tweets
Like the phrases
He repeats
Or the McDonalds’
That he eats
And the Russians
That he meets

How is he
To be believed
When the truth
Can't be retrieved
As quick as the lies
That he’s conceived
To mislead
The uninformed or naive

WHAT’S THE ALTERNATIVE?
Cedric McClester Jan 2018
By: Cedric McClester

A woman goes to work
Her boss thinks she’s his perk
‘Cos he’s your average ****
But he might as well be “Blerk”
He knows she’s gotta live
Besides what’s the alternative?
But some of you say ****
Why don’t she just quit

But she’s under the gun
So it’s easier said than done
She doesn’t work for fun
Her household must be run
It’s between a rock and a hard place
She finds herself, in any case
Caught in a dilemma
So her options are seeming slimmer

See the choice she could choose
Some of you might well refuse
But walk a mile inside her shoes
Before you decide to accuse
Her of making bad decisions
Don’t be guilty of divisions
The only way that you can fight it
Is to remain united

Women who’ve been through
This situation, say "Me too!"
Like no one ever knew
Or had the slightest clue
As to what’s been going on
Even though it’s very wrong
It's gonna stop, at least we’re hoping
Now that it’s out in the open

THE PRESIDENT’S LEAVING
Cedric McClester Jan 2018
By: Cedric McClester

The President’s leaving
Because he needs a break
The government’s closing?
Well, let them eat cake!
To blame it on him
Would be news that is fake
He just wants a wall
That we’ll never make

The President’s leaving
For sunnier climes
Despite the fact
It’s the worst of times
To host a party
And close the blinds
‘Cos Mar-a-Largo beckons
He’s crossing those lines

The President’s leaving
To max and relax
And to celebrate
Cutting the tax
That helps the rich
While a DACA packs
Dreamers are confronted
With these salient facts

The President’s leaving
Getting out of Dodge
While a government extension
Is caught in hodgepodge
See he doesn’t care
That accusations are lodged
Because he feels he can duck
The fuselage

Mr. President
Not so fast
About the tax cut
You just passed
Thought the farmers
Would never ask
But even they
Can tell a lying ***

You’re the biggest
And the bestest
How we know
You confessed it
So many dreams
You’ve molested
Sight unseen
And untested

Would it be
Disrespectful
If I said that you’re
Neglectful
Of the ones
You never
Checked fo’
They don’t
Wand you anymo’

Now we’re all
Seekin’ relief
From the so=called
Commander and Chief
Who we find
Beyond belief
In the ways
He causes grief

HE’S LIKE, REALLY SMART!
Cedric McClester Jan 2018
By: Cedric  McCleter

He’s like, really smart
In a dumb sort of way
And that becomes more apparent
Each and every day
Check out his tweets
Or the things he has to say
Which only goes to show
The man is not okay

He’s like, really smart
In a dumb sort of way
Even though that’s not
What those who know him have to say
Cos his intellengence
Is rarely brought into play
As he barrels in
To any kind of fray

He’s like, really smart
In a dumb sort of way
If we were to take a vote
The nays outweigh the yeas
A sad and sordid fact
So the impression stays
And despite all that he’s said
He’s no friend of the gays

He’s like, really smart
In a dumb sort of way
Early morning tweets
Are his way of making hay
But they just put his ignorance
More clearly on display
Which he cannot deny
Nor ever take away

They Say...
Cedric McClester Jan 2018
By: Cedric McClester

They say
Snitches get stitches
But silence
Permits violence
And the paradigm
That avoids the crime
Is a stitch in time
Saves nine

They say
It’s bad to squeal
But let’s keep it real
Cos you know the deal
Grease gets applied to
The squeaky wheel
And the open mouth
Is fed the meal

They say
Once bitten
Twice shy
And we should know
The reason why
Don’t say it’s him
If the mote’s
In your eye

They say
It take two to tango
And the sweetest fruit
Off a tree is a mango
Santana’s 12 studio album
Is Shango
Movie tickets are available
On the website Fandango

He’S Like Smart
Cedric McClester Jan 2018
By: Cedric McClester

He’s like smart,
Or so he said.
But so was Fredo
Who wound up dead
Don’t accuse me
Of looking ahead
Or trying to have
His base turn red

He’s like smart
Not like people say
The word incompetent
Shouldn’t come into play
To have him tell it
Well anyway,
He’s a genius
If that’s okay

He’s like smart
Or do tell
He was absent
When they rang
The school bell
And his grades thereafter
Didn’t rise
Like they fell

He’s like smart
If he’s believed
But then again
We’ve been deceived
Of all the shenanigans
Up his sleeve
Other than taxes
What has he achieved?

PRESIDENT TWO-SCOOPS
Cedric McClester Dec 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Call him President
Two -Scoops
Who’s addicted to
Watching the loops
That endlessly play
On his TV they say
All through the night
And the day

He’s addicted to
Fox And Friends
Where the propaganda
Always begins
Then he’ll switch to CNN
Or MSNBC
Every now and then
With him it all depends

And did I mention
The diet Cokes?
That he swallows
But never chokes
Thank God
That he never smokes
In the way of
Some other folks

He’s insulting
Wtihout a good reason
To call him racist
Is like shouting treason
Or shooting a deer
Out of season
Despite his ill will
And malfeasance

WAS IT THE JAGGED PILL?
Cedric McClester Dec 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Was it the jagged pill
That scratched her throat?
And inspired
The angry lyrics she wrote
Highlighted by
Each and every note
Aimed at getting
Her ex-boyfriend’s goat

Was it the line
About her in a theatre
That reminded him how
He used to eat her
Or more to the point
How he used to treat her
When he has to know
He should have been sweeter

She said to herself,
“I should fight back,
I need to launch,
A frontal attack.”
There’s not one word
That I would retract
Even though I know
We’ve faded to black

She wants him to know
She hopes he’s content
Strange as it may seem
That was her sentiment
Laced with raw anger
Hoping he’d catch the hint
And understand all
That he had meant

Don’t believe the fake news
What have you got to lose?
If I am the one you choose
So why do you still refuse?
Crime is rampant you see
So law and order must be
The reason you listen to me
To hell with your dignity

Don’t believe the fake news
They let me ****** their cooze
And I don’t ply them with *****]
I just kiss the ones that I choose
For those of you who might balk
It’s not that I walk that walk
That’s just some locker room talk
Though it might screech like blackboard chalk

Don’t believe the fake news
They say that I’m gonna lose
BA-lieve me I’ve paid my dues
And I’m a friend of the Jews
So we’ll have to wait and see
If the people are gonna pick me
Over that lying Hillary
The Electoral College is key

Don’t believe the fake news
Considering that they lit the fuse
And attacked me in no less than twos
Knowing that I easily bruise
But hit me and I’ll counterpunch
More than that, eat your lunch
Until I hear the celery crunch
Whether breakfast dinner or brunch

She was like
A well-manicured lawn
He was like uncut hedges
With lots of rough edges
But they say that
Opposites attract
And they certainly do
As a matter of fact

Most girls wouldn’t have
Given him a chance
But she liked the idea
Of a romance
And so they got together
Promising to weather
Anything that came their way
Something that the inexperienced say

It’s like they say
You live and learn
Cos their romance
Took an awful turn
At first in subtle ways
They couldn't discern
But eventually kindling wood
Will burn

It’s two years later
And she hasn’t been found
He’s suspected
Word gets around
Some swear her body’s
Six feet down
Buried somewhere
In the ground

The President must be hating
That Flynn’s cooperating
With the Special Prosecutor
Which could render him neuter
Although he now has *****
Watch him as each one falls
They’re coming for Don Junior too
What’s a President to do?

The President must be hatimg
That Mueller caught him waiting
Wondering what the **** to do
Pull the trigger? He has no clue
He’s frightened of the consequences
Cos the third cycle always rinses
And the fact remains
That he’s gone through great pains

The President must be hating
That Manafort is now debating
Whether to turn state’s evidence
He’s going bonkers from the suspense
It’s only now that he can see
That he might be in jeopardy
And he’s too old to do the time
If he has to pay for his crime

The President must be hating
That Pence is probably waiting
To assume the crown
As he watches him come down
“No more trips to Mar-A-Lago,”
Says his personal Iago.
“If he had thought or only known
That I was destined for the throne?”

PRAY FOR TINA
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: cedric McClester

Pray for Tina
That her affliction doesn’t last
It might be her history
But her destiny’s not her past
There’s a way out for her
I know that there can be
I’m talking about Tina
But the example might well be me

Pray for Tina
She can be redeemed
No one is as hopeless as
At first they might have seemed
She has aspirations too
She can live the things she dreamed
Because prayer can change everything
Like God above has deemed

Pray for Tina
She could be your daughter
I’m asking you to pray for her
Because you know you oughta
She needs our support
And encouragement
To keep her from the path
On which she seems hell-bent

Pray for Tina
You see her every place
In your neighborhood
Or wherever is the case
She doesn’t look much different
From you or even I
The problem with Tina is
She might prematurely die

BLACK LIVES MATTER TOO!
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Let me pull your coat to sumthin’
You probably never knew
When I say black lives matter
White lives matter too
As well as law enforcers
Who happen to wear blue
We say black lives matter
Because they rarely do

Black lives matter
Needs to be expressed
Despite the things I’ve said
Because nevertheless
We have been dehumanized
And disrespected, at best
Shot down with impunity
In ways you’d never guess

Black lives matter
Has been our battle cry
And after all I’ve told you
There's no need to ask me why
Walk a mile in my shoes
Just give it a try
And then you'll understand
I tell you no lie

Black lives matter
Because we’re human too
But you’d never know it
Based on what we’ve been through
Brutalized and oppressed
By the people who
Are sworn to serve and to protect
But that’s not what they do

BREAKING UP AND MAKING UP
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Accusations battle stations
I guess we’re at war
Like many times before
You walk out the door
But this time feels different
Though I can’t say for sure
‘Cos you may not want to
Get together anymore

I’ve made mistakes
But so have you too
It hasn’t been easy
Living with you
You’d say the same thing
As it relates to me
Maybe we’re both better off
Just being free

Like coins in a wishing well
Only time will tell
What’s gonna happen
Though I wish you well
I can’t read the future
And neither can you
The conundrum is we love each other
That much is true

I can’t live without you
And I can’t live with you
I’m ****** if I don’t
And ****** if I do
Breaking up and making up
Is part of our DNA
But this time I wonder
Are you gone to stay?

INTERNECINE WARS
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester,

Internecine wars
Fought behind closed doors
Can often be the cause
That gives one pause
To stop and think
Are you heading towards the brink
Of internal disaster
Faster and faster

I read the other day
About the price one can pay
If they, let’s say
Just look the other way
And start pretending
There’ll be a happy ending
Without compromise or bending
What message would that be sending

Without a corrective pill
To address the ill
It will be with you still
And the chances are nil
That given another day
Like a child at play
It will just go away
And everything will be okay

If you don’t understand
That the issues at hand
Are complicated and
When a fire is fanned
It will only start to spreading
And God knows where it’s heading
Like a patch of rough sledding
On towards your Armageddon

AM I DATING MYSELF?
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester, Copyright (c) 2017

Am I dating myself
With these words out my mouth?
See, I remember a time
When we flashed the peace sign
And called one another
Sister and brother
Seems we’ve gone sour
On acquiring black power
And black on black crime
Is the new paradigm
When we look in the mirror
It becomes much more clearer
That we hate what we see
Although that shouldn’t be
Remember freedom marches
Before the golden arches

Then ****** entered in
And we start popin’ our skin
Before we shot it straight into our veins
Which probably explains
Why we regressed
Long before the present opioid mess
It was ****** first,
But then it got worst
So let me take you back
To the era of crack
When a nickel or dime
Could trigger a crime
And what really hurt you
Is the women who lost their virtue
But I’m not absolving the men
Who’d engage in all kinds of sin

I remember gangster rap
And how that set the trap
Which brought the stress and strife
From tryna live that gangster life
Then the East Coast West Coast war
That didn’t exist before
Remember when Biggie and Tupac were friends?
Instead of how their story ends
They’ire a classic group today
But I remember when NWA
Used to pull out all stops
When they sang **** the cops
And chronicled their lives
Called their girlfriends and their wives
All kinds of ******* and ******
Then would dance down on all fours

Now let me bring you up to date
Would it be wrong for me to state?
When it was our problem alone
It was the prisons we were shown
There was little sympathy don’t cha see
When it  was just you and me
Who said they had a problem
There were few out there to solve ‘em
But opioids are everywhere
And it’s a disease now, so I hear
That crosses all socio-economic lines
Now there are many telltale signs
It’s now called an opioid disorder
Past the inner city border
And the word is harm reduction
Instead of out and out destruction

“I wonder how many me,s there are?
Said the alleged victim, who bares the scar
Left by a child molester who passed the bar
Upon his denial, so there you are
She’s quite convinced that she’s not alone,
Not the only underage one that he has known
Now that it’s out that it’s out there
His cover is blown

I wonder how many me,s there might be
That have yet to come forward, guess we’ll have to see
Because refreshingly, women seem to be free
To speak truth to power no matter who it might be
They’re coming out in droves, one after another
And his inclination is to deny and to smother
What they have to say that he did back when
The pendulum favored solely the men

I wonder how many me,s are out there
Who’ve been put through the wringer, and do we care?
About the sordid details that they finally share
Now that they’ve made us painfully aware
I wonder about this too instead
Is the issue isolated or is it widespread
Those are the things that have entered my head
Based on what I’ve heard that somebody said

I wonder how many me,s remain silent
Choosing to be your average shrinking violet
Whether their ****, was docile or was violent
They’re still gonna act as if they’re Inviolate
But all of those me,s out there, know the deal
It’s not speculation for them it’s for real
And they’ve chosen to let us kn ow how they feel
Which has been met with mass appeal

YO- HO- HO...

By: Cedric McClester

Yo- **- **
And a bottle of ***
Watch the world’s greatest pirate
Because here he come
Of course, it’s Donald Trump
***** is you dumb?
Now I guess it’s plain to see
Where I’m coming from

Yo- **- **
And a bottle of ***
I don’t want it all
Ya see, I just want some
But when I watch his moves
It just leaves me numb
Now I guess we all wish
That he hadn’t run

Yo –**- **
And a bottle of ***
Whatever he’s offering
I don’t want none
All I ever wanted was
My place in the sun
And to avoid being shot
By a semi-automatic gun

Yo-**-**
And a bottle of ***
Everybody says that
That idiot is dumb
His ignorance is piling up
By the ton
But he believes in tweeting
And some gulfing  fun

LIKE A NEEDLE IN A HAYSTACK
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Like a needle in haystack
It’s very hard to find
Healthcare that addresses the needs
Of the deaf, the dumb or blind
Hope you’re not offended
By my use of paradigm
To try to make the simple point
I mean most of the time

Medicare is not enough
If you don’t have Medicaid
The amounts can be exorbitant
That are out-of-pocket paid
To your medical provider
Once the arrangement has been made
Makes you kind of glad
You’re still in the bed you laid

What is one supposes to do
When they’ve killed Obamacare?
And the present administration
Could care less how you fare
All that I can think of is
You had best prepare
For the consequences
Which are dire I must share

It’s a true conundrum
Of such major proportions
That I’m not even talking about
Where to get abortions
Instead I’m referring to
Despite your best precautions
Chronic health conditions that make
You go through contortions

TAX BREAKS
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester

When low income earners
Get smaller tax breaks
Than high income earners
For heaven’s sake
It’s time the opposition
Puts on the brakes
Or does something drastic
Whatever it takes

When they’re offering us
A big Christmas gift
That will improve the economy
There is a big if
The Senate agrees
And avoids the usual tiff
Or like the House
Can pass it real swift

When they claim to be
Doing something for the poor
You can make a bet
The rich will get more
There is no doubt about it
Cos I know this for sure
They’ll do the same thing
That they’ve done before

When they tell you that
It will trickle down
Just check their math
Because it’s not sound
They’ll keep what they gain
Is what I’ve often found
And rarely will you find
That it comes around

Haiti Has Been Devastated
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Haiti has been devastated
Like bomb ravaged Iraq
From the hurricane, but now
He wants to send them back
Could the reason be because
Haitian people are black
That they now are finding themselves
Under Mr. Trump’s attack?

Makes you wonder why his actions
Are so inhumane
When it comes to people of color
They’re not treated quite the same
As others under similar circumstances
Who might have also came
Could it be that he’s a racist
If we must give it a name?

Look at Puerto Rico in Maria’s aftermath
If it wasn’t so sad
It would probably make you laugh
At how rescue operations
Have been inadequately staffed
Hiring a two-man company
Couldn’t be just a gaff
To restore the electricity
Destroyed in Maria’s path

These are just two stark examples
But we’re beginning to see
A very clear and certain pattern
If you’re asking me
Under the past administration
That would never be
In this land of the brave
And home of the free

Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester

His silence speaks volumes to me
But that notwithstanding the key
just to be explicit that it’s implicit
Of what his past actions might be
So as this relates to Roy Moore
Who’s rotten right down to the core
He hasn’t gone on record
I know because I checked it

His silence speaks volumes to me
It’s so uncharacteristic ya see
It’s been laid at his feet
But, yet not one tweet
It’s odd behavior indeed
Although we’re pretty much agreed
That there’s nothing on his Twitter feed
Not one quotation we can read

His silence speaks volumes to me
The Donald seems not to be free
To address this issue
See he’d much rather kiss you
Than to say a negative word
The man’s not insane he’s absurd
If the thought just hasn’t occurred
That a statement is what’s preferred

His silence speaks volumes to me
Cos he refuses to cut down that tree
Has he suddenly become shy?
And if he has, tell me why
He doesn’t want to be quoted
See he hasn’t even emoted
Though his response are rarely sugar coated
And are more likely to be bloated

JUST WHEN WE THOUGHT…
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Just when we thought
It had gone away
Libya brought back
Slavery today
The victims are migrants
Or so they say
Although it’s pernicious
In every way

Just when we thought
The world had progressed
Libya has shown us
That nevertheless
They’re capable of doing
What we’d never guess
Enslaving others
Of whom they think less

Just when we thought
We passed the time
That we’d have to revive
That old paradigm
Libya commits
An inhumane crime
Greed is their reason
But what is the rhyme

Just when we thought
That we wouldn’t see
A sudden return
To man’s bad history
The fact that it’s happening
Makes it easy to see
We have a long way to go
If you’re asking me

A PRESIDENT…
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester

A president
Who does not heed
Sage advice
Wil make us bleed
And there’s no way
We can succeed
Once his ego
Had been freed

A president
Who eats his own
And resides inside
The Twilight Zone
Is different from
The ones we’ve known
‘Cos over time
He hasn’t grown

A president
Under duress
Who we all know
Lacks finesse
Will do some things
You wouldn’t guess
To extricate himself
Out of this mess

A president
Who lacks grace
And will lie
Right to your face
Is someone
Who will debase
That august office
In any case

Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Should we become distracted?
By the way the president acted
Or the press attention he attracted
When he should have been redacted
Must we just ignore
Alll that went on before?
Like him threatening a war
On North Korean for sure

Should we just forget
The things he won’t admit?
Like Putin and other ****
Or the answers we usually get
He must think we’re ignorant
To the fact that he’s hell-bent
On disguising, what he meant
Or discovering his true intent

Does he really think we’re fools
Or maybe convenient tools
So he can break the rules
That they teach in ethic schools
Does he really think we’re blind
And don’t see him cross the line
Time and time after time
Or his kind of paradigm

Does he even care
That the public is aware
He is acting laissez= faire
Though he’ s getting quite a scare
From the Robert Mueller probe
He’s afraid he’ll be disrobed
As he’s placed under a strobe

Every woman who comes forward
Needs to be heard
Although their silence
Might be what’s preferred
By the men who take advantage
Though it rarely occurs
That they might clap back
Despite denials and slurs

Every woman who comes forward
Whatever the time
Has every right to report
A long-ago crime
She’s still entitled to
Drop a dime
In an effort to unmask
The unrepentant slime

Every woman who comes forward
Should be listened to
Although that’s what some men
Are reluctant to do
Let’s face it some men
Are missing a *****
And their behavior
Is the only clue

Every woman who comes forward
Emboldens another
Who wouldn’t be talking
If not for the other
It can be scary
For a certain kind of brother
When faced with the bad news
That he’d like to smother
