THINKING BACK TO THAT TIME
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
(Verse 1)
Guess my mind’s on rewind back to the time
When we were together
And I thought forever we would be,
The perfect couple (her and me)
Although it took a while for me to see
That wasn’t how it was gonna be

(Chorus)
But I’m thinking back to that time
When everything seemed just fine
Guess that’s why they say love is blind
(And at times it can be unkind)

(Verse 2)
I remember the scent of the perfume she used to wear
Frequently - ya see - my mind takes me there
To a time long before we began to fight
Back then everything was alright
But it changed like day from night
When we both became uptight

(Chorus)
Still I’m thinking back to that time
When everything seemed just fine
Guess that’s why they say love is blind
(And at times it can be unkind)

(Bridge)
It’s like seeing through a cloudy mirror
The reflection from our distant pass
It’s surreal but I can almost hear her
Before the dye was finally cast

(Chorus)
I’m thinking back to that time
When everything seemed just fine
Guess that’s why they say love is blind
(And at times it can be unkind)

(3rd Verse)
Do I miss her? (There’s no doubt I do)
That’s not the half, (If you only knew)
Everything that we’ve been through
I gotta think you would love her too
Now I’m facing the reality
Sadly she is no longer with me

(Chorus)
I’m thinking back to that time
When everything seemed just fine
Guess that’s why they say love is blind
(And at times it can be unkind)
These are song lyrics rather than technically a poem.

106 RIVINGTON
Cedric McClester Aug 2017
By: Cedric McClester

It wasn’t fit for livin’ in
But 106 Rivington
Was where musicians got it in
And some of ‘em even began
Where drummers let loose on their drums
A rat tat tat ba-*** *** ***
From all over we would come
To play and hear 'em play their drums

106 Rivington
May not have been worth living in
But was ideal for playin when
We needed space to practice in

Like Birdland sadly it too is gone
And sumthin’ ‘bout that feels so wrong
Though memories no doubt will live on
And we’ll just have to move along
We can’t complain because it’s done
We all had one hell-of-a-run
Not to mention lots of fun
Here’s to the setting of the sun

Some will lament others will morn
A part of history is now gone
But there will be another dawn
And we will play another song

106 Rivington
May not have been worth living in
But was ideal for playin when
We needed space to practice in

Given the low rent that we paid
It was like being in one big parade
At 106 friendships were made
From the foundations that we laid
But times moves on and so must we
What the future holds we’ll havta see
Guess we’ll just have to let it be
Cos I don’t know so don’t ask me

Some will lament others will morn
A part of history is now gone
But we will play another song
And there will be another dawn

106 Rivington
May not have been worth living in
But was ideal for playin when
We needed space to practice in

THREE DAYS LATER
Cedric McClester Aug 2017
By: Cedric McClester

There was a time
They wore a hood
To hide their face
That’s understood
But now-a-days
We wish they would
Put out their torches
And fire wood

They always sought
Hegemony
Over people
Who look like me
And even though
That well may be
We’re still here
As they can see

Three days later
He responded
To Charlottesville
But appeared despondent
Which of course
Corresponded
With the public’s outrage
That he hadn’t done it

So he said precisely what
Somebody wrote
With all the right words
And I’ve taken note
But the reason that doesn’t
Float my boat
He began his remarks
After pausing to gloat

I don’t know his heart
Or exactly
Where to start
But I know
Even you’ll admit
That he does racist ****
So what you see, is ex-act-ly
What you get

I don’t know
What he’s thinkin’
Or the brand of liquor
He must be drinkin’
I just know
What he does
Is racist like
And it always was

I don’t know
His mind
But I betcha
That you’ll find
If you’re not
Deaf, dumb or blind
He is of
The racist kind

I don’t know
What he meant
But I do know
His intent
See he has
A racist bent
And he just
Will not relent

DIVORCE
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Fox News has finally
Filed for divorce
From Bill O’Reilly
For being coarse
They say that they
Can no longer endorse
That kind of behavior
In their workforce

Sponsors have left Fox
By the droves
As that old adage
Commonly goes
Guilt by association
I suppose
In a place where
The emperor wears no clothes

Some say the divorce
Is quite overdue
When Roger Ailes left
O’ Reilly should have too
None of the allegations
Were from out the blue
Human Resources
Must have also knew

And so a sad chapter
Finally closes
At Fox news
And what I suppose is
They’ve been forced
To take care of their biz
Before they’re reduced
To nothing but fizz

AND SO IT ENDED…
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

And so it ended
As you might have thought
With him killing himself
That’s what karma brought
See there’s a lesson here
That should be taught
For others out there
Who are overwrought

His victim’s funeral
Is being planned
And what no one
Can really understand
Is why things got
That out of hand
But he’s now dead
And can’t expand

And now the family
Will lack the closure
That might have come
From full disclosure
So they’ll just have to
Keep their composure
With the knowledge that God
Is watching over

Unexpected
Is the fate of some
And often the consequences
Will leave us numb
I’m really not trying to
Paint a picture that’s glum
‘Cos I know some day
We will overcome

STARK RAVING MAD!
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

A love affair
That had gone bad
Drove the man
Stark raving mad
So he went hunting
And in tandem
Killed a man
He found by random

So I don’t know
Where to begin
Other than to hope
He turns himself in
So justice can
Determine where or when
Or whether his life
Should be brought to an end

The man he killed
And then uploaded
Onto Facebook
Never goaded
Him into taking
His precious life
Away from his children
And his wife

Mercy me
What’s the world coming to
When we see
Someone out the blue
Blown away
Before he even knew
Because somebody else
Had a missing *****

HURT AND CONFUSED
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

I’m hurt and I’m confused
Got a bad case of the blues
Opioid addiction’s old news
'Cos someone lit the fuse
And now you find it everywhere
In places where they didn’t care
But life indeed can be unfair
So they’ve become aware

Just say no was like denying
That whole communities were dying
Then we discovered they were lying
Iran Contra revealed them buying
Drugs that kept our communities addicted
Not in the least were they conflicted
‘Long as they thought it was restricted
To the areas that they conscripted

Because it has become systemic
Now it’s called an epidemic
And treatment is the new polemic
The rest I guess is academic
And so I wonder where to begin
Treatment was the thing back then
Until prevention made its way in
Now maintenance happens to be back again

Medical professionals now treat the affliction
That politely is known as opioid addiction
If they didn’t it would be dereliction
Of office treatment in their jurisdiction
Some of you may not be aware
That opioid addicts can get office care
For many of ‘em it’s an answer to a prayer
A stigma free environment beyond compare

ONE YEAR LATER
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

One year later
And Prince is still dead
From opioid addiction
The headline said
It’s always in the news
The disease has spread
But you haven’t heard
A single word I said

One year later
We still seek a cure
But there’s no magic bullet
And that’s for sure
Abstinence is the ideal
Although there’s more
Like medical assistance
Which we can’t ignore

One year later
We’re still pushing up hill
Everyday another victim
Is getting killed
Too many prescriptions
Are being filled
For pain relief that isn’t
All that it’s billed

One day later
May they rest in peace
While we address the problem
So that it will cease
Opioid addiction seems
On the increase
It’s as deadly as the fighting
In the Middle East

Listen young man
Take the advice of an old fool
Who at a tender age
Dropped out of high school
Wound up in prison
And that wasn’t cool
So learn from my mistakes
Be an exception to that rule

Any one can hang out
With the wrong crowd
But is that where you want to be
For crying out loud
Wouldn’t you rather see
Your parents being proud
Than you being carted off to jail
Underneath a cloud

For some of your buddies
Jail is a finishing school
Cos’ they made the wrong choices
Now they’re the system’s tool
And so my sage advice is
Don’t jump into that pool
Stand up on dry land
Be an exception to that rule

Your story doesn’t have to end
With multiple regrets
No you must do the right thing
Because the mind forgets
Many of its trespasses
As it continues to place bad bets
So get out while you can
While you still have assets

THE GREAT LEADER
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Across the front pages
It drizzled
He launched a big missile
That fizzled
From the repressed country
He’s chiseled
Down to the bone
Or the gristle

And it became a headline
Feeder
The man who they called
The Great leader
Who’s a half pack short
Of a *******
Finally has tottled
And teetered

Perhaps because of
His haircut
Some think of him as
A nut
Be that as it may
He’s the ****
Of international jokes told
You say what?

And were he ever to
Shed a tear
Many more would follow
I fear
From his frightened people
Am I clear
Even if they were being
Insincere

HENRIETTA LACKS
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Despite some misconceptions
And attacks
Endure for centuries
By us blacks
Let me lay down
Some unknown facts
How ‘bout we start with
Henrietta Lacks

For most of us
After our death
Other than memories
What else is left?
For our survivors
The bereft
Yet her cells live on
It’s a matter of theft

From Henrietta’s
Cancerous cells
A bold idea
Suddenly jells
Spawning cures for cancer
As her biographer tells
And in vitro fertilization
Other things as well

Science took complete advantage
Of her cells
Which they still manage
Though she died of cervical cancer
Her cells provided them
With the answer
To scientific mystery
Check out her cells history

NOW IT’S GONE VIRAL
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Truer then fiction
This newest affliction
Called opioid addiction
Without restriction
Was allowed to spiral
Because of denial
And now it’s gone viral

Just yesteryear
No one seemed to care
Now it’s everywhere
No prisoners to spare
As our contributions
Become resolutions
Requiring solutions

To this disorder
That crosses the border
As timeframes get shorter
We had just oughta
Ask ourselves how
To lower the plough
And address it now

By medically treating
The challenges we’re meeting
It’s worth repeating
The obstacle we’re defeating
Is opioid addiction
The disease, the affliction
Through medical interdiction

We’re faced with a contagion
As deadly as the Black Plague
And so it finds us engaged with
The scourge of the modern age
Yesterday we were challenged by
A disease that was spreading
And similarly today it seems
That’s the place we’re heading

One thing I know for sure
It crosses all demographics
And so we search for a cure
A stop light for it’s traffic
Some call it an affliction
Cos’ that’s their frame of mind
But opioid addiction
Is the bane of all mankind

As we attempt to treat it
Because we heed the call
We know to defeat it
That one size won’t fit all
Multiple methodologies
Will have to be employed
Though the ideal is always abstinence
Let’s not get paranoid

There are other approaches
Out there on the horizon
Like medically assisted treatment
That conveniently ties in
To the awful situation
We find ourselves in today
Doctors providing treatment
Is another option they say

I’M WELL AWARE
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

I’m well aware
There’s little room to spare
For Obamacare
Because I can hear
What I’d like to know
Though you told me so
Is why must it go
Even so

And I understand
That it all began
Under a black man
So is that why you pan
Everything he’s done
For each and everyone
Reasons under the sun
It’s under the gun

See I am astute
It’s ready aim then shoot
You just don’t give a hoot
If 24 million get the boot
And though it is a shame
To you it’s all the same
It’s just one big game
Different player different name

And you’re not being honest
Just to say you promised
Cos’ I’m your doubting Thomas
An out of house alarmist
You choose to mox nix it
Instead you need to fix it
Don’t create another Brixit
By being complicit

SOME MAY DISAGREE
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Offensive to some
Others I leave numb
That doesn’t make me dumb
Nor am I a ***
I have to keep it real
And write down
What I feel
So now you know the deal

To some I’m erudite
And they might be right
So don’t take me light
Just because I’m bright
Be that as it may
I hear the things you say
But I’m taking note anyway
I hope that is okay

Some may disagree
And that’s alright with me
No need to fight you see
One’s taste is always key
You may hate the most
That I can be verbose
Before you start to roast
Let’s just drink a toast

Do you love my art
Because it’s an integral part
Of who I am at heart
That’s one place we can start
If you want to understand
The nature of this man
But only if you can
Eventually become a fan

POLLING AT AN ALL TIME LOW
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Here’s something
I thought you ought to know
He’s polling at
A really all time low
But I guess that
Only goes to show
If you stopped to asked
I would have told you so

Think about it
And it makes perfect sense
That he’s an idiot
Who lacks experience
So you can make a note
It’s in the present tense
That we hold our breaths
While the world is in suspense

See you can’t believe
A word that man has said
And he tends to tweet
Whatever’s in his head
Thoughts he might have had
Before he went to bed
Suddenly becomes
What the world is fed

When he smiles
You see his pearly whites
You’d smile too
If you knew his acolytes
Who line up everyday
To kiss his ring
And to arrange his praises
That they sing

YOU CAN'T BLAME OBAMA
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

You can blame Obama
For the horrible drama
In Syria, I’m hearin’ ya
But despite your chatter
The truth of the matter
Is it occurred under  your watch
And now it’s on you
And your motley crew

You can say it’s his fault
But you called a halt
To removing Assad
So it wasn’t hard
For him to conclude
It was alright dude
For a chemical attack
Now that’s just a fact

Blaming your predecessor
Is none the lesser
Of an affront
So let me be blunt
If you’re such a tough guy
Then answer me why
It occurred at all
Stop  passing the ball

Any way you slice her
Your spokesman Sean Spicer
Can’t speak for you
He hasn’t a clue
As to how it all works
When the chain Assad jerks
Is yours alone
Now your cover is blown

How many heartbeats are left?
For someone who created
The nation’s greatest theft
By stealing a national election
Leaving others bereft
How many heartbeats ‘til death?

How many heartbeats are left?
For someone who is heartless
Or lacks empathy at best
Just how many would you
Venture to guess
How many heartbeats ‘til death?

How many heartbeats are left?
I’m not just asking in jest
How long will his heart
Continue to compress
Before it stops beating in his chest
How many heartbeats ‘til death?

How many heartbeats are left?
I pose this strange question
Just merely to suggest
That the exact number
Can’t be assessed
How many heartbeats ‘til death?

AVARICE AND GREED
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Avarice and greed
Has nothing to do with need
So it’s to deaf ears we plead
Cos they ain’t paying heed
To them from what I see
Everything’s a commodity
To be bought or sold
It clearly is that cold

Avarice and greed
Just wants to succeed
They’re blind to other’s need
So it’s alright to bleed
Common folk bone dry
And this situation repeats
In actions and in tweets
And don’t dare ask ‘em why
Now did I tell a lie?

Avarice and greed
Are holders of the deed
They’re of a common breed
And few things will impede
Them from getting what they wanted
Cos they remain undaunted
And the things that they have vaunted
Never leaves them haunted

Avarice and greed
Or the two-percentage creed
Doesn’t recognize misdeed
Before choosing to proceed
Where angels fear to tread
They go right on in instead
Despite the things I’ve said
And we see where that has led

HOW LONG WOULD YOU GUESS?
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

How long would you guess?
That people will allow themselves
To be oppressed
Before they rise up nevertheless
And find a way to protest
Then ultimately plot
Their oppressor’s destruction
It’s a simple matter of logical deduction

How long would you guess?
It will take the people
To finally coalesce
Then put their battle armor on
More or less
In preparation for a war
They’ll soon address
Just to rid themselves of an abscess

How long would you guess?
Before it turns into
The wild wild west
With the pieces everywhere
Like a game of chess
Before it even gets to be checkmate
As a consequence or a matter of fate
Those who play the game I’m sure will relate

How long would you guess?
Before it all revolves
Into a ****** mess
As they attempt to get the whole thing
Off their chest
And businessmen in droves
Empty out their desks
Then all anyone will want to hear is, hell yes, yes!

THIS TOPIC WON'T WAIT
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

I have to state
This topic won’t wait
There’s too much hate
And you can’t debate
The president’s role
God bless his soul
Though it has a hole
And his heart is cold

I must declare
I’ve experienced my share
And so I’m aware
That hatred’s there
I know that it exists
So I must insist
That we resist
Though it’s in our mist

It’s a matter of record
So you can check it
Or try to dissect it
Maybe intellect it
But why should we pretend
Learning how to hate again
Can ever make us great again
And if we ever were then when?

It started with the natives who
Judging by what they went through
Were mistreated as we knew
Like black and brown people too
But do you think that they’d repent
Or take the time to relent
Instead of getting encouragement
From the ******* president

I BELIEVE AND KNOW...
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

I believe and know
That Trump has got to go
But while that may make sense
We’ll just be stuck with Pence
And it’s become crystal clear
That he hasn’t a rabbit’s *** idea
About what the Americans people need
And it’s not more avarice and greed

I believe and know
That Obamacare shouldn’t go
It needs to be repaired
Instead they have us scared
That we’ll lose needed services
Because they’re true conservatives
And be that as it may
They’re gonna rue that day

I believe and know
That the Russians meddled - so
It’s fake news they might insists
But we have to get to the bottom of this
And no matter who’s at fault
Trump’s people or Bannon’s Alt
Wherever guilty parties are found
We have to bring them down

I believe and know
That you can’t clean the swamp, then go
And pick a bunch of billionaires
Which only shows nobody cares
They haven’t had a hungry day
And while I’m at it let me say
It’s impossible for them to identify
And that’s the truth no lie

THE TABLES HAVE TURNED
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By; Cedric McClester

How the tables have turn you see
Now the general needs immunity
It was “Lock her up!” for Hillary
Now it’s him who’s being pilloried
Oh how the tables have turned indeed
In the face of his avarice and greed
The 5th Amendment he will not plead
It would appear he has a greater need

How the tables have turned I guess
He’ll have to testify nevertheless
And bring the president in this mess
Or suggest his involvement at best
And does anyone really believe
There’s nothing up the president’s sleeve
When first he practiced to deceive
Which he has failed to achieve

How the tables have turned today
He needs immunity some will say
To put the truth on full display
But it’s gonna come out anyway
The president has a motley crew
And there’s little he wouldn’t do
To get to where he got to
Which is something I think you knew

How the tables have turned all the same
The hunter was captured by the game
The one who gave Hillary all the blame
Do I really have to say his name
You’re smart enough so I refuse
Must I give you helpful clues
When he’s all over broadcast news
Cos’ everybody must pay their dues

SHOCK WAVES
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Shock waves through a nation
Rapidly losing patience
With a president
Who’s not the man they sent
To Washington DC
Nor will he ever be
The kind of person who delivers
What he promised campaign givers

All he does is lies
And give convenient alibis
For the fact he failed
And needs to be assailed
For being on an ego trip
He’s all bluster and all lip
And everybody knows
He’s not the man they chose

Surrounded by sycophants
Same old music same old dance
And none of ‘em are qualified
For the jobs that they applied
They’re clearly a ship of fools
That he uses as his tools
To slowly destabilize
Right before the people’s eyes

And the Russians would appear
To be everywhere
Though that fact might be absurd
He hasn’t said one nasty word
About Russians to this date
Or Vladimir who we all hate
His blind supporter are now seeing
That he’s a worthless human being

THE THOUGHT NEVER DAWNED
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

The thought never dawned
That a black with a blonde
In today’s society
Is not beyond social propriety
Although for a racist it well may be
Too much to comprehend, or see

Though that isn’t what the racist saw
When he thought he couldn’t take no more
And bore down on the throttle
Stabbing a black man collecting bottles
Then simply walked away and left
As the man was facing death

And when he turned himself in
His saga slowly did begin
Finally start to unravel
Police found our he had traveled
From Baltimore to New York City
To **** black men what a pity

And he told the authorities
From the tinder age of three
He was a racist and that’s key
To how he turned out ultimately
Looking for blacks in New York
And now he is all the talk

ONE DEAD, FIFTEEN WOUNDED
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

One dead, fifteen wounded
When an argument broke out
But ya might have assumed it
Brown liquor there’s no doubt
At the club they consumed it
Fallen people all about
Because that foredoomed it

‘Woulda thought we had enough
Of people running around
All over town with gats and stuff
Ya know the consequences
Can be more than rough
When you wind up arrested
And being handcuffed

And it’s usually the case
That they can’t shoot straight
Someone’***** in the face
That didn’t participate
Cos’ a stranger had bass
They took the weight
Wrong time, wrong place

This time it happened in Ohio
Cincinnati to be precise
But why oh! why oh!
Couldn’t they have played nice
So no one had to die, though
It's a fool’s advice
They shoulda applied, yo

They had seven years to prepare
To abolish Obamacare
So there’s enough blame to share
Cos’ in the end how did they fare?
And ya know they went for broke
But their efforts went up in smoke
Now they’re the **** of the joke
For tryin’ to take it away from folk

At the cost of the average man’s health
They were tryin’ to increase the wealth
Of insurance companies by stealth
And the rich if nothing else
So let Obamacare be hailed
Cos’ they plotted planned and failed
Though the Freedom Caucus is assailed
The president shouldn’t be bailed

They put together their A team
And tried everything it would seem
From a whisper to a scream
A Twitter attack to a meme
See it hadn’t been scored or scaled
So in the end God Almighty prevailed
When no one could be blackmailed
Ultimately the whole thing failed

In their districts constituents arose
And some elected officials froze
Cos’ come election time everyone knows
It’s the recalcitrant one who goes
So the president could say what he wanted
But the membership remained undaunted
None of ‘em wanted to be haunted
By a vote that wouldn’t be vaunted

SO THE AHCA…
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By; Cedric McClester

So the AHCA
Went down in flames
And to protect the guilty
We won’t mention names
Ya see they were up to
Their usual games
Protecting the rich
Like their opposition claims

They say They did
All that they could
To pass a bill
That people understood
Would cost their lives
So let’s knock on wood
Cos’ it didn’t get passed
Though they thought it should

They had seven years
To craft a bill
But it appears they couldn’t
Even still
And if the truth be told
I doubt they ever will
On the backs of the poor
Who their bill would ****

To the AHCA
I say rest in peace
We like Obamacare
To say the least
Now on our dead carcasses
You won’t get to feast
Or **** you know where
Without using grease

UNDER THE AHCA
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Under the AHCA
Once it gets unstuck
Wise people say
The poor get ******
In the usual way
But the president says
We’re gonna be okay
Because he’s the prez

We’re being sold ****
Like it was Shinola
The rich will be okay
The poor - like I told ya
As they point the way
We’re gonna need a shoulder
For us to cry on
As they move that boulder

If they repeal Obamacare
With no concern
How the sick will fare
I’m warning them
They better beware
Cos’ we’re gonna rise up
And give ‘em
Quite a scare

As I write this
They’re counting votes
If they make it
According to the quotes
They have to know
They’ll be rockin’ boats
And taking on water
Until nothing floats

MACHIAVELLI AND DONALD TRUMP
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

It’s not that big a jump
Between Machiavelli
And Donald Trump
Both were indifferent
To moral considerations
Both used tricks and lies
That tested people’s patience

It’s not that big a jump
Between Machiavelli
And Donald Trump
Political expediency
Lacking in morality
And both had a thing
For pluralities

It’s not that big a jump
Between Machiavelli
And Donald Trump
Both used extremely
Dishonest methods
And both were lacking
In basic ethics

It’s not that big a jump
Between Machiavelli
And Donald Trump
Both were cunning
And had no moral code
And history has shown
What that forebodes

Beyond the Eisenhower context
We still have to guard against
The military industrial complex
Which requires in every respect
That our government be checked
As we’re forced to question, what is this?
It’s reminiscent of Guerin’s book
Fascism and Big Business

We can clearly see a certain confluence
So we must guard against
The acquisition of unwarranted influence
When surrounded by generals and billionaires
It can directly impact how the populous fares
Because these are un-chartered waters
And didn’t the Nazis claim to be
Just following orders

In Germany, then a democratic state
Neumann said that the ****’s sole ambition
Was to uproot what existed there
Until they could come into position
And we need not forget
As we look at the current cabinet
History frequently repeats itself
So we are to blame and no one else

When the great leader
is surrounded by acolytes
Who defend his positions
Whether wrong or right
It gives us many sleepless nights
And the media gets, a thousand sound bites
Comprised from their various talking points
Out of the mouths of those he anoints

HE THOUGHT…
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClesrer

He thought we wouldn’t detect it
But it’s just like we first suspected
Though he claimed he would perfect it
He tried to change it but wrecked it
And as we might have guessed
His new health care is a mess
Leaving seniors in distress
While others benefit more or less

He thought we’d never know
To what depths he would go
But time moves on to show
You reap just what you sow
He has a certain knack
To present lies as a fact
Which he never does retract
Even when they’re stacked

It’s a tangled web he weaves
He thought that we’d believe
All he says he could achieve
Things most cannot conceive
He promised rainbows and puppies
******* his base in like guppies
Or like uninformed yuppies
Like we’re fools or inductees

He thought we’d blindly follow
When it’s a hard pill to swallow
Cos his guarantees are hollow
Get the picture it’s a Kahlo
It’s as clear as day from night
Healthcare should be a right
So his words serve to indict
On that he has taken flight

THEY CALL IT A CIVIL WAR
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By; Cedric McClester

They call it a civil war
But ain’t nothing civil about it
If you’ve seen people die before
Then you wouldn’t doubt it
Who said victory is sweet
When bombs fall through concrete
And people die right at your feet
It’s impossible to retreat

How can anyone avoid
Post traumatic stress
When nightmares reoccur
From living through that mess
The fact that you’re alive
Says that you are blessed
And life goes on they say
Nevertheless

They call it civil war
But ain’t nothing civil about it
If you’re lucky enough to survive
You’d probably want to shout it
Blood flows in the street
And the carnage just repeats
So the memory never deletes
The muffle sounds of the drum beats

How can anyone avoid
Post traumatic stress
When nightmares reoccur
From living through that mess
The fact that you’re alive
Says that you are blessed
And life goes on they say
Nevertheless

WHY ME? (WHY ME?)
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

I have to say why me
While watching the news on tv
And it happens more frequently
Looking at the spokespeople I see
There’s the advisor Kellyanne
Of whom I used to be a big fan
Then there’s that Sean Spicer man
And Steve Miller whom they need to ban

It makes me want to revolt
When I hear them start to emote
Cos they lie about the vote
And give numbers that just won’t float
Butta-boom butta-bing
They lie about everything
And the president is the wellspring
That causes those canaries to sing

It’s fake news if he disagrees
With the reporting that he sees
Which makes him very displeased
And he hates those who eat the cheese
So he’s trying to plug all the leaks
Of which he frequently speaks
And he stays on the topic for weeks
While they continue to wet their beaks

So you understand why I’m tired
And remain so uninspired
When I see the people he’s hired
None are to be admired
Cos they all speak with forked tongues
As they try to climb all the rungs
By using their wits and their lungs
And we wait for what next comes

THE EXPLANATION SHE GAVE
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

The explanation she gavc
Is they’re spying by microwave
And when analyzed in the concave
The situation’s quite grave
Though he may be all alone
In saying they tapped his phone
Let me lay down a contentious bone
It smacks of the Twilight Zone

They are liars one and all
Cos the tales that they tell are quite tall
And it makes them all look so small
By heeding their master’s call
When all he does is tell lies
And their explanations defies
All the wherefore and the whys
As the situation applies

Be careful of your ring tones
They’re feeling their pheromones
And spying through your cell phones
They’re also using drones
So if you’ve got the courage or nerve
There’s all kinds of ways to observe
But to whose interest does it serve
I’ve just given you the hors d’oeuvres

So never mind just a wire tap
There are more ways than that to get trapped
Which she gladly tried to unwrap
Thus earning her master’s backslap
It was his tweet that laid out his case
Though that was clearly misplaced
So to his minions disgrace
They go out there trying to save face

What is that **** on his head?
It’s his hair, or so he said
A gust of wind, put's that lie to bed
It’s a rabbit that’s long since been dead
He’s thinking it makes him look cool
I’m thinking he’s just an old fool
Who the Russians use like an old tool
I’m talking as a general rule

What is that **** on his head?
How much hairspray does it get fed
A can full somewhere I read
But it’s the fifth his barber has pled
If he were to get a haircut
He’d lose the dated look that he’s got
Which would put him in a real rut
Cos his image would go kaput

What is that **** on his head?
It’s dangerous ground on which I tread
But I’d rather do that instead
Of having the reader misled
Who came up with that style
They had to know all the while
That it would cause folks to smile
Just looking at the galvanic pile

What is that **** on his head?
To the birds, it might look like bread
Causing their closed wings to spread
When thinking let’s go and get fed
Then again it looks like a soufflé
That is boldly on full display
And I don’t care what you say
It needs to be taken away

He’s just waiting
For the moment to pass
When the media
No longer asks
Where’s his proof
Cos there has been none alas
Of the wire tap
He tweeted about so fast

Though the office he holds
Couldn’t be much higher
Both his hair and his pants
Are clearly on fire
The man in essence is
A pathological liar
Who ****** himself out
To the highest buyer

Everyday we seem to get
A brand new lesson
And ya can’t get him
To answer a question
So his deafening silence
Just keeps us guessing
To the point where
We’re now all obsessing

So he’s waiting
For the moment to pass
While showing the world
His uncovered ***
And very early in the morning
There’s a twitter blast
Of innuendoes and lies
That his internet casts

THEY PROMISED
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By; Cedric McClester

They say that they promised
As the reason why
Millions of us
Will now have to die
From repeal and replace
Which is a far cry
From what we had
And they cannot deny

What they’re now trying
To ram down our throat
Really isn’t better’
It’s just a new coat
Of paint on a ship
That never could float
Now all but the rich
Will be on the same boat

Of course I ‘m in favor of
Single payer
Despite opposition
From the naysayers
Cos we’re in position
To be a key players
In healthcare for all
Despite the delayers

We’re the richest country
In the whole world
And it’s beyond high time
That a plan is unfurled
I don’t see why
It makes them so uptight
To admit that healthcare
Should be a human right

BAT SHIT CRAZY!!!
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Supporters of the man
Simply amaze me
The question I should ask
Are they bat **** crazy
Now that we need him
Where's John Cameron Swayze
To comment on the behavior
He frequently displays -  see

He isn't normal
By any stretch of the imagination
To tolerate him
Takes more than a modicum of patience
As we watch him ***** up
Foreign relations
Soon we'll all have to man
Our battle stations

He accused his predecessor
Of a felony
Says he tapped his phones
What the hell is he telling me?
Without a Fisa Warrant
How could that be
Is this yet another instance
Of we'll just have to wait and see?

Unfortunately this baby
We'll have to abort
Cos we certainly need to cut
His tenure short
Look at all the confusion
He's already wrought
How many times
Must this lesson be taught?

SELLING HORSESHIT
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By; Cedric McClester

He’s selling horseshit
But nobody’s buying
Other than his base
Even they know he’s lying
While his spokespeople are
Out front denying
When behind closed doors
You’ll hear ‘em sighing

He selling horseshit
By the ton
But he isn’t fooling
Anyone
And now his lies have him
Under the gun
So ask yourself this
Is he having fun

He’s selling horseshit
Now it’s starting to stink
But he still assumes
That people don’t think
So he counter punches
Like, a boxing rink
Meanwhile the country’s
Begining to sink

He’s selling horseshit
And we’re getting tired
Of him and the folks
That he chose to hire
Like Kelly Conway
Who's become a liar
Or Sean Spicer
Whose pants are on fire

“AFFORDABLE HOUSING”
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

It’s, “affordable housing,”
That we can’t afford
Our cries in vain
Go largely ignored
So please don’t ask us
Where the grapes of wrath are stored
If you don’t want us
To respond untoward

They show us an unaffordable
AMI
For people who barely
Are just getting by
So to call it affordable
Is a bold face lie
That try though they may
They cannot deny

We’re brought together
To plan and plot
Our community’s future
Are we not
But they won’t admit
To what’s already in place
Like a zoning change
What a disgrace

Ultimately we’re told our future’s
Up to us
And if we believe them
As they say we must
They seek our ideas
Like they really matter
But I know all that is
Is just chitter chatter

Slaves didn’t share in the American dream
They were living in a nightmare
And if they dreamed at all
It was how to get away from here
See they weren’t immigrants
Like the ones who came through Ellis Island
And those who don’t know the history
Should simply just be silent

You can’t conflate what slaves went through
With those who followed the dream
Of seeking a better life over here
All of us weren’t on the same team
Some came of their own free will
Others were brought here in chains
Some enjoy the full benefits still
And the fact of the matter remains

Slaves didn’t share in the American dream
They were living in a nightmare
And to try to imply that they did
In a word is insincere
It’s been said that ignorance is bliss
And the words of the ignorant
Provides more grist
for the proverbial mill of bad intent

You can’t conflate what slaves went through
With those who followed their dream
When the remnants and legacy of slavery
Are still here it would seem
Actually there’s no comparison between the two
Yet there are those in high position
Who haven’t got the slightest clue
Are guilty of the sin of omission

BEFORE HE TAKES A FALL
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Revelations about the Kremlin
Has him trembling
From the static
Which might be emblematic
Of the issue that’s at hand
Now that we understand
The clear-cut intersection
Of the Trump Russian connection

We can tell that Sessions lied
When he vehemently denied
Having had a discussion
With a diplomat who’s Russian
During the Trump campaign
And so the fact remains
That after all is done and said
It stinks straight from the head

And before he takes a fall
He will probably stonewall
About the true nature
Of its nomenclature
Claiming outright ignorance
In this and every sense
Seeking full absolution
As the ultimate solution

Calls for his resignation
Can be heard throughout the nation
And let’s not forget
That he was a surrogate
Not simply a senator
Which would cause us to ignore
The role he actually played
So our memory doesn’t fade
