Today
silence
a garden
losing ground
cold and deep
my feet in
buried snow
sometimes pale ghosts
of winter whisper
in the footprints
that I follow
long, until the
Spring
CA Guilfoyle Jun 2012
awaken
grasp deep within
tap
reservoirs deep as wells

rebalance
masculine, feminine
release
old ways

time
of radical change
prepare
to break apart

allow
deep feelings
let
conflicts go

wash
distortions away
feel
the softening

flourish
in heart, mind
empower
your life

invent
new plans
transform
into higher awareness

leap
from the cliff
dream
in endless waves

scatter
your seeds
give
birth to new ways

They came to visit me in a dream
mother and grandmother, sitting on the lawn
The earth spun quickly, they so delighted did not notice
Only spoke of  gardens, tomatoes ripening on the vine,
laughing, rolling in grass, dresses green stained
My tears deep as wells, went empty in life's longings
My arms became flowered stems
for them to gaze upon,
to love silently,
endlessly

I saw dust sparkles fly all around us,
through trees, clouds, rooftops - all things
I saw them fly off too, sparkling
realizing so soon such dust
we all become
CA Guilfoyle Dec 2012
The snow it did not fall
only frost, thick as walls
creaking floors, a long hall
leading upward
where stars whispered
calling to the moon
from behind curtains,
branches and clouds
CA Guilfoyle Aug 2012
Dark skies whisper starlit
trailing arrows, sparkling glittery fly
hands illuminated, fingers moon dappled entwine
kiss of love's star
Venus will have
her way

Thinking back there was that time,
days when the sun shined - just for you
You took the long way
and peddled through the puddles
Green road - a tunnel of maples, undercover
letting go, no hands
Youth's fearless reign
of summer
CA Guilfoyle Jun 2014
How the rains came
wild blue in waterfall tears
magenta orchid clouds to wear
Oh, the tropical winds
leeward, an ocean blowing in
plumeria flower waves
a blissful turquoise bay
lay of fragrant floral sands
warm breeze to carry
this wild ocean breadth
far and off to foreign lands
CA Guilfoyle Mar 2015
I am waiting for the spring, the change
the variance of green
waiting for you, a fool
swim, I drown in this moon-pool
dark down a tunnel of night
I make my way by braille
only to touch, to see
a rivulet of rain
before the sun
that swells of red
and strays away
the day, a heart
that long ago
fled
CA Guilfoyle Feb 2013
Walk close the seasons, near the heart
summer fields, grasses green - tall to hide behind, the coming winter
only laugh as dancing maples change, piled high - leaves on fire
Winds of gray waves fill the air
children skate
frozen ponds give way
to spring - the ice
to trickle
CA Guilfoyle Jul 2014
Today walking the cut off road, home
watching clouds and birds disappearing
all these moments of coming, going
I came upon feathers of a flicker, brightest orange
and further on the road, his body
and wondered of his dying
and if he was freer in death
or in flying

Of my own life I pondered
the fleeting moments of freedom
so much lost in the sinking sun of youth
difficult to find amidst a hurried life
fewer and farther in between
to breathe, a restless mind
settling in a silent stream
and when shall come the hour
a moment to be free
CA Guilfoyle Aug 2012
We climbed red fireweed hills
overlooking shadowy places, empty gazes
looking on

Mountain sheltered days of rain
poured us down, beneath drying sun
silence of words that never come

Still love is not a fleeting game
it winds it's way, a path is laid
walking our way home
CA Guilfoyle Aug 2016
In the cool stillness the desert awakens
night barely lingers, with dreams now afar
in the chill before the dawn
comes the fading of stars
blue before the sun
with birdsong
a new day
is sung
a little thought after watching the Perseids a couple of nights ago and then the coming of dawn.

Watching the budding vine of petals unfurl
all through winter I am looking for spring
the daffodil yellow greens, the lilac blossoming
of tiny star flower florets, sweet the songbird chorus
moss softly sunning, the trickle of forest creeks running
the remembrance and fragrance, the pungent warmth of rain
drops, wet and round, bounced from trees, upon my face falling down
cool splash, the startling of my eyelash
wet washing and alive, the resurrection, the cycle
of all things again reborn.

Under these pines, these bougainvilleas
petals blow across the wind
red sails on gravel sands
clouds blue laced black
pitch of hurried birds fly
disappear in darkest skies
a sudden storm at the window pounds
slant of raindrops crash
splash of puddles, the iridescent ground
sun bursts through a field of clouds
the desert pure redolence, calm
a silent rainbow touching down
CA Guilfoyle Mar 2015
Watching a turbulent sky
birds in the drowning clouds, cry
CA Guilfoyle Nov 2014
Green the day, that moves in waves
of gentle blowing winds your way
sweet you slept, caressed
on mossy laden ground
silent ripples on blue lily pond
I, a singing bird of sun
that calls to you in the middle of a dream
hearts, water lilies - opening
adrift in the middle of a song
we, two singing birds
of only love
CA Guilfoyle Dec 2016
We are walking, we are chanting, we are praying
though many before us were killed and maimed
we stand in peace, we are in love with the sky,
the earth, the water, the father and the mother

We stand together, we watch the river flood
through the years spilling over with human blood
Praying peace and clean water for our earth mother
praying one day all will come to know
the intricate connection we have to each other
realize how we harm ourselves
when we harm another

We cry with the sky tears
water protectors in the river
CA Guilfoyle Jun 2012
The wind took my breath away
mingling with the sea
Your eyes of black obsidian
tumbled into me.

Overboard we slid beneath waves
deep as cormorants
our souls to be saved

Lungs, salty sea aired
our breaths of the day,
entangled in waterways
did soon float away

In ever deeper depths of love
what shall be learned?
If one dives ever deeper,
shall one not return?
CA Guilfoyle Jun 2019
Today
it was felt
in heart
it came sharp
a knife
a hammer
deep the ache
the numb
that tries to escape
the resurrection of the fire.
CA Guilfoyle Jul 2012
Under what true blue sky, are hell's shelled missiles fired?
On the other side, no picnic apple pie, summer sunsets

In our firecracker skies we remember to forget

For them, they'll be no strawberry rows ripening on the vine
or swimming pool party slip and slides
Children of war are born to die.

Soul you speak to me, calling from far off planes
voice of wisdom, your power swirls round me
gentle as petals, you lift me from the fire
all ignorance forgiven
leaving only and indelible burning
of love in the heart
Happy Christmas and love to all HP poets and friends! I am thankful for you all, write on....

Gone,
the warm summer grass we laid upon
in daisy dreams of gold, yellow suns
today walking barefoot on the lawn
cool rain awakes the autumn dawn
dewdrops disappearing in the ground
a chill has come with breath cold lungs
to breathe upon the earth and trees
bringing summer's fire to her knees
and with a final gasp will swallow
molting leaves red and gold
falling to the earth
fallow

A masterpiece was painted
with a trunk-ed hand he held the brush
swooshed lines in black
graceful strokes, deliberately
he spoke
finishing with a flourish

This is incredible, it is true as well....god I so love animals!!

When I don't see you, here or in the places we've been
in prairie meadows or in these trailing hills
I am lonesome, listening to how the ocean spills
blue waves play a sorrowful song
I get lost in thought, ruminate long on our walks
my feet here in these tiny flowers, the ones that we picked
I think of all the gardens, yesterday, today and tomorrow
my eyes fly far off with birds, disappearing
into some heavenly place, where you are.
CA Guilfoyle Feb 2014
sometimes perfect suns
stream through my dusty windows
memories of you, in sepia colors undone
the breadth of days long gone

all of this
each time I go
driving by
CA Guilfoyle May 2014
When I go to the sea
I carry an empty vessel
gathering salty air to breathe inside
with grains of sand in my hands
some seaweed or shells,
you can never tell, driftwood
or broken bells
all the day, a sway and pull of tides
the breadth and depth of ocean
how the pounding waves carry
my empty vessel away
CA Guilfoyle Jun 2014
Eyes, crystalline, shine awake
newborn suns stream, blue light
mists of fog breaking through
cool breath, of forest's wet
steaming bark, clouds of water smoke
trees breathe deep, drinking dawn
mosses warm in wooded sun
raven call penetrates the soul, an ageless echo
pulse of forest drums, awake my heart
in birded rhythmic song, connection, meditation
I am home, I am home
CA Guilfoyle Oct 2015
Storm clouds
of black thunder
electrical magnetic powered
sparks lashing loose wired
consumed by lightning fire
a wild red blazing blue
hot smouldering coals of you
the final burning through
a certain kind of death
grey the ashes
of our truth.
CA Guilfoyle Aug 2017
I think it quite strange living here walled by this house
when I was wilder than now I lived in nature
stalking birds and pollen laden things
always my toes in sands or hot footed in summer.
I was in love with the sky, no matter the weather
in storms I hid beneath branching cedars
sleeping on mossy pillows, in the woods of my backyard.
I never gave much thought to houses then, I only went there
to sleep or eat and waited to leave again
waited for an inkling of sun to warm the cold grass
spent days climbing trees, red plums and cherries
I imagined that's how life would always be,
living outdoors under the sun or clouds
wet with rain, always picking flowers.
CA Guilfoyle Sep 2014
When after night has flown, starry blue
to other lands, until tomorrow
when just before the light of dawn
in streams of gold upon the lawn
the world still violet hued, pinkish blue
soon bursts on fire, a blaze of red
silence is the wind upon the clouds
silence of colors, the sky speaks aloud
rearranging the mind, the heart like petals
of a million flowers all abloom
CA Guilfoyle May 2013
After some desolate years, a strange reign came
and played your voice of cello tones deeply wild
a resonance, I drank - my soul to follow
when my feet could no longer walk
fast my heartbeat swallowed
songs of you, haunted
hallowed

With chords that played silvery golds
in silken threads we wove
dreams and days of sun
that followed

Now sinks the sun dark below
and finds a place, a home
built for no one
CA Guilfoyle Jun 2014
When we were very far
and there were never any roads, no star lights strung, to follow
only a winding path, a branch to grasp
a place to fill the hollow

blue the summer, with drowsy daisies came
petals, petals, we drew circles round the sun
gold spun, our halo heads of pollen
gold, the bees of sleepy flowers, fallen
they, seeking clover grass, heaven

days we lived deep in hills
we were endless green, in countries never mapped
stretching past the farms afield, in other worlds
borderlands, too far to see, beyond the gray of days
and we were ever free, in the shining silver
of our hallowed hills of sun
CA Guilfoyle Mar 2015
When winter melts
footprints of mud, this path
now a screen of green
I cannot see, lost I listen for
calling words, the haunt of forest birds
cry, they call before the storm
deep a swell of rain pours
that wild, brings another Spring
mossy soft this budding floor
mist and petrichor that waft
attract, they meld and melt
sweet into the soul
CA Guilfoyle May 2016
Alone in this silent desert, burned indelibly by sun
after the call, after the blue, red fall of flames
here, after the dancing scorch of fire
I am left to the smouldering doldrums of desire
this bed, now an empty space, a wordless, lifeless place
here, where I have slowed, my movement stagnates
the memories, the sheets - they suffocate
some days feeling so trapped by love
I can only think to run, think how to untangle again
still some days I dream a life with you
in colorfully painted, magnificent hues.

In Ireland, sea swept and green
against the wind, this mast, salt lipped and bent
by the mad skipping white caps
farther out - the gray fading ships
closer in, the tiny bobbing boats
amid misty fog they float
nets and fish, heavy they list
the watery wilds
toward home.

Stars at night, long the hours
watching animal spirits deep in the wooded wilds
tracing circles round the moon, glowing
translucent spiders weaving webs
floating at the edge, before diving in
oceans of sailing green seas
waves newly born, bright as sparks
lightning in the dark, igniting hearts
fiery blue, water too, the earth and air runs through
basking in other worldly realms of moon
with hearts, pure white where lilies bloom
home, where the soul of the sea is borne
drenched in storms of falling star seas
yours is a place wilder, than these.
CA Guilfoyle Jun 2014
a million petals ago, in colored meadows
stems, gathered in far off fields
windy, wild born

bright pods of summer
split in August suns
earth bound, await
September floods

cool, foggy rains
cycle of rebirth
wildflower seeds falling
back to earth
CA Guilfoyle May 2014
Iris, purple colored with yellow ruffle smiles
blooming wild at green forest pond
slender necked, stalks and leaves
sway of graceful woodland swans
CA Guilfoyle Jan 2018
With crying seagulls, salt tears of spraying seas
this rugged coast of obelisk ancient stones
black blowing reign of squall and fury
the swallowing of sand and shore
tonight a ghost, a murmur of moon
the pitch grows ever darker
fretful wrath of wild ocean
awaits the calm to come,
the bright startle of
tomorrow.
CA Guilfoyle Dec 2014
Ecola park
misty rain of
late September
overlooking blue seas
a gathering of birds and flowers
wild ocean of
you and I
together

Today, far and away
beyond, we've gone
from one another
still there are days
listening for your name
strange how my garden blooms
lonely, bright colors of you
strange, watching petals fall
fading into winter
CA Guilfoyle Jul 2019
In the rain forest we heard the first birds
stood amid the cooling spectral fog
walked upon the spongy ground
the layered earth of moss and mud
along the path and further on
came streaming rays of sun
that silver lit the wild paphiopedilums
smiling toward the sky
a shine of silken stars.
CA Guilfoyle Feb 2014
Your hair,
of smoke, it floats
curls adrift, waves
of wild sea, upon your head
I gazed long into the storm
before my hands ever
learned to swim
CA Guilfoyle Apr 2015
It was shallow water, rippling
a watery moon quivering
on the surface seen
It was night fire
burning water into steam
gray smoke screened
It was willful drowning
upon a lily bed of lies
parched a wilted garden
slowly withers, dies
To all who stop by here to read this poem and to those who have left comments, I thank you for your every kindness.

You come skipping off the curling waves
salty sea air swirling sand at my feet
in humming songs through shells and logs
restless wind, from where have you come,
and where shall you go?

All my days, soon blow away
only a restless wind
ever seeking
CA Guilfoyle Mar 2015
Wind and dark the night I pine
stark the grasp of longing
branched and vined
blue mourning
deep in soul
an echo
calling

When through my fingers
your hand slips
taste of your
fleeting kiss
lingers
drifts

Paper winged
when torn, I stutter, stammer
spiraling and falling
only in dreams softly sweet
once more a butterfly
brilliantly winging
CA Guilfoyle Aug 2012
The dawn, still the quiet embers
linger, wander, falling under
spells to uncover

Hands grasped golden nights
music fiery, blazed the heavens
mingling with starlight

Morning birds on wing,
dawn of sacred blessings
calling lovers home
CA Guilfoyle Dec 2012
With sudden fury, madness rang through the air
just then a flock of glorious birds
so free in bluest skies, flew by
and we away with them
Now gone from sight
our earthly bodies,
become winged spirits
angels taking flight
CA Guilfoyle Feb 2017
These winter trees
cold and shouldering winds
their bending branches unhinge
falling limbs crash and break the snow
further still a secret world of mud and bulbs
that in the spring blooms of tulips and violet mossy lawns
and too, the sun that comes to warm and fills with green the tree arms
this wooded home that breathes with sheltering birdsong.
CA Guilfoyle Dec 2014
When I wake in winter, to howling winds
a head of dreams still swirling, spins
my body aches forlorn, bury myself warm
sometimes half asleep, upon the pillow
fall back, softly deep
witness myself surreal
float, I walk or run through
strangest worlds, hurled through
time, I climb upside down
back out, from dreams - awake
eerily shiver, winter's cold
to shake
CA Guilfoyle Dec 2012
White the summer fields now covered in snow
lone fence, disappears long beyond the gray
tiny birds perch, soon gone the light of day
whipping winds gather, snowdrifts to lay

forest footsteps distant
this world so scarce a sound
hills and sky listen
snow falling to the
ground
