Overrun
Fumbletongue Nov 2018
Rub-a-dub tug
Pull me down to the rug
Wiggle and wriggle
Full bodied giggles
Nibble and nip
Give a little slip
Pinch and squeeze
Anything to please
Fill me up
Overrun my cup
And drown with me
In intimacy

I don't slam well on love
It slams on me
A drumming thrumming arrhythmia
Ba-bump ba-bump ba--- bump-ba-bump
A little loss here is a little gain there
Only, it doesn't work that way
My stopwatch heart hiccups then echoes
Like odd flats and sharps
Seemingly out of place among the expected
A beat that needs to be acquired over several listenings
Like a new food that needs to be tasted up to 12 times
Before you can truly decide if you like it.
It take more than 3 licks and a bite to get to my center
One, two three, you're not for me
Four, five, six, a few more licks
Seven, eight, nine, out to dine
Ten, eleven, twelve, you can delve
And yet... Here it sits in my chest with its arrhythmia
Patiently waiting for that defibrillating current
That shock that will set it right
Or perhaps it's never meant to be that way
Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
It's perfect in it's imperfection

My heart's a stereo,
and we can dance if you want to,
because the rhythm is gonna get you,
on re-pe-pe-pe-pe-peat.

Fumbletongue Oct 2018
Pressure builds
like breath being forced in to a balloon
without the few stretchy stretchies
and sideways pulls beforehand.
As if some universal clown
is trying to make balloon animals
with my intestines.

Fumbletongue Oct 2018
I am not nor will i ever be
A rainbow and roses girl
I am not nor will I ever be
A swallowable pill
I’m more of an inclement weather and mood lighting kind of girl and when the food goes down the wrong pipe.

Pieces of Me
Fumbletongue Oct 2018
My nose has rolled away
With the meatball to romp and play
Down the artichokey
On top of mountains old and smokey

My ears, they flew right off
without another care or thought
They rose in to the sky
A small and fleshy butterfly

My tongue just up and left
Leaving behind a mouth bereft
It ran off with my toes
10 legs it had to quickly go

What's next I do not know
Perhaps my hands are next to go
I'm falling all apart

Curses like a sailor sweet and obscene
Highly combustible like gasoline

Stoking the fire, fanning the flames
Transmuting her losses into big gains

Humidity's Voodoo
Fumbletongue Oct 2018
It's humid
A kind of humid oppression that slows me down to a drawl
It surrounds and presses in like a pressure cooker
Electric currents amplified
Energy keenly felt in every molecule of moisture
Hanging in the air around me as it seeps in to my pores
A slow burn
Filling me like a Molotov cocktail
I wiggle and squirm as my body begins to pulse
Buzzing and humming in it's tipsy state
Slippery but not numb
Abra-come-grab-ya
Straddling urges
The word '****' my paternoster
As I kneel at the alter of your lap
How much that hard K sound reminds me of the sound of your hand
Finding my mark

Name Change
Fumbletongue Oct 2018
I'm on my hands and knees again
Scrubbing the floors once more
Toilets, tubs, and living room rugs
Then on to fans and doors

If I see you leave behind
A wrapper, dish, or food
I'll blow my top and you will find
A drastic shift in mood

So how about you show respect
And help me to maintain
Rather than lazy neglect
Or I'll have to change my name

3 on a match
Fumbletongue Oct 2018
In the trenches of war, in the dark of the night
Three soldiers grab cigs and a match to ignite
The first one inhales and passes the flame
The second one does exactly the same
The third one however is already dead
Having been sniped straight through the head

Light one if you please and two if you must
But never a third or ashes to dust
I know it makes sense to not waste a match
But on the battlefield there’s always a catch...

Like a steam train pregnant with coal
Please let there be a bend
A turn, a curve up ahead
*******.... *******.... *******....
One track, one goal
Fuming out, straddling the sky
A giant smoky black serpent
Burying my reality in soot
FuckYouFuckYouFuckYouFuckYou
Piston pumping momentum
Doubling with every breath
Until the train is a bullet
Breaking the sound barrier
Aimed at my chest for maximum impact
Hitting the anatomical muscle
I call the heart....
Perhaps now I can rest

Crab Broil
Fumbletongue Sep 2018
Of all the things I've snorted
Which truthfully aint' many
The one that left me thwarted
Red pepper flakes a plenty

As they passed beneath my nose
Just as I inhaled
To my sinuses they arose
Which they promptly nailed

At first it seemed not so bad
The calm before the storm
Seized just like Leningrad
For communist reform

Just like that, a simple whiff
My nose a raging fire
Running water I did sniff
This situations dire

To the freezer I am going
To end this burning grief
For neither ******* or blowing
Brings any kind relief

Time to try a frozen ****
And see if I can numb
So I grab two ice cubes
And follow this rule of thumb

Hold them under water running
Until sizes that will stow
Pat yourself for your cunning
Then shove them up your nose
The entire time this was going on in my  effort to clear my passages my 16 year old daughter stood idly by laughing as I cried. I totally would have done the same. The ice cubes helped. A LOT

Bonfire
Fumbletongue Sep 2018
I get lost in your words as I read them
Each a fingertip of red phosphorus
Dragging across my potassium chlorate and sulfur skin
Their heat and friction releasing smoky tendrils
Hanging in air like my breath, ever so faint
They spark and traverse the distance between us
Faster than a hint of a thought, igniting my form
Together we light the bonfire of desire
That will consume us down to embers

I'm just a little doodle
Sitting on a page
I'm just a little doodle
In these lines, caged
-------------------------
I colored the doodle
In ink they can see
And the moment I did...
Forever will it be
No longer the wave before
Or the swirly clouds
The only thing it can be
Is what it is right now

Look at you sitting there
Wicked smile, not one care
A luring vessel from afar
Azimuth circle , my north star
Beckoning me with lines sloped
I climb aboard, retrieve the rope
Fingers graze your hardwood
Under which feels so good
Beneath the wide and open sky
Together daring, watch us fly
Your bow to stern I do endorse
Now let's be off and set a course
Flying, gliding, we find our groove
And oh how effortlessly you prove
From dawn to dusk and dusk to dawn
You're meant for me to ride upon

The pluck from your fingers
Creates this vibrational hum
That ripples my length
And you expertly use
To tune me to just the right pitch
Jack be nimble, jack be quick
Jack, I buzz at your fingertips
One hand about my neck
The other strumming me
From my verse to my chorus
To my bridge arching through
My melody of “Once upon a time...”
In repetition
Until that singular moment
That suspends the echoing stillness
Of a firework paused just before
Total surrender of bursting out
Only to catch time once again
Washed in the awe of “**** yeah...”
Play me like an instrument...
