sweltering hot days
have tarried in our district
prolonging the roast
Oleander blooms
bear a sweet lingering scent
e'er to remember
evaporation
has taken much moisture out
of dam storages
blustering south winds
have blown constantly all eve
they're packing some speed
as day progressed
the signs of good rains grew less
bush skies were cloudless
fresh and printed new
as the glistening morn dew
tis a lovely view

old and so well worn
as the near dead cobs of corn
tis a sight forlorn
at her breast the baby
suckled with much contentment
the milk of sweet life
the suns burning rays
scorched the paddocks with their
stinging invective
drab low hanging clouds
encircle our township to-day
with their raining drear
the sun's shining beams
did burnish the bushland stream
in a glossy gleam
man's very ruinous hand
is ever at work wrecking
our dear mother earth
Earth Day is on the 22/04/2014.
yellow breasted wrens
bobbed neath the clothesline
seeking some grass seed
heavily laden clouds*
hang their brows over the town
*readying to unload
in a frantic mode
did come the Atlantic swirl
reeking havoc's toll
evening draws down
the last vestiges of light
sunken to the west
beetles did scurry
out from the logs of wood
as the axe chopped
an ill did blow in
on the east's virulent wind
carrying a malady
on the eastern range
plumes of profuse grey smoke
did rise to the sky
from tight bud jackets
camellia blooms bursted out
to show red petals
some twenty years ago
my sister and her daughter
saw a UFO
This haiku is based on an actual event... My sister and her daughter were traveling home from a near by town at around 8:00 pm and a strange object hovered over their car as they were motoring along the road. It hovered for around two or so minutes and then shot off towards the west at a rapid speed.
the sun's staring eye
looked through my west window
with a fixed gaze
the narow river
slowly snaked a passage
through the wooded glen
fluffy clouds drifted
in from the western regions
as eve did approach
a magenta hue
showed in this morning's sky
as first light dawned
winter's white cocoon
waited for spring's warm caress
to unfurl its hues
summer's golden orb
stayed for many a long day
its heat so intense
as sunlight's last rays
sink over the horizon
night's long shadow looms
the mind's page absorbs
a dark ink of depression
so dismal in hue
o'er a length of days
fierce winds have scolded the land
they show no let up
golden leaf streamers
cascaded o'er the aspen's
tall majestic stem
with temps being so high
a body swelters in the heat
there is no reprieve
a fast skirling wind
raced through the gumtree limbs
bending their branches
along the gap road
wattles are sprouting their blooms
bright yellow baubles
the sun decided
not to shine brightly to-day
hence the sky being grey
foam signatures
remained on the shoreline
telling of wave flow
on the forest floor
dappled shadows frolicked
in a playful way
a brilliant blue sky
gave cause for the birds to sing
in joyous chorus
across the night sky
a luminous moon sailed
towards its dawn port
a soft autumn breeze
tickled the daisies petals
with is finger tips
soon the buds of spring
shall unfold to reveal their
multitude of hues
evening draws down
the last vestiges of light
sunken to the west
the red butterfly
pirouetted from shrub to shrub
in the glowing sun
spring's gorgeous colors
shall burst forth from their buds
into a gala show
one can't telephone
another locale without
the right phone number
a blanket of frost
encases the dry countryside
on this July morning
on the footpath's grass
a pair of magpies forage
for delicious worms
twas a very nippy morn
a largish frost did cover
our tiny township's lawns
tis very dusty and dry
in this province of the woods
where's the quenching rain
bright shining sun beams
reflected upon the lake
in glinting ripples
out toward the west
last vestiges of day light
slowly reclined
