Tonight I will do many various things;
I will fold warm laundry
And go eat tacos with a friend of a friend.
I will drink a beer and go drive
my sad and rickety car.
I will scream your name
When I am meant to
Somewhere deep in a song
Because my soul is aching,
Pouring forth always for the hope of love
Like the love I feel for you.

Tonight I will do many various things.
But I will not stop loving you.

I see a monster
It is eating spaghetti
It is a good thing

I'm glad that it does
Not eat me or my brother
He likes spaghetti

We asked him his name
And he grumbled intensely,
"I'm Mr. Monster!"

He always came in
After a quarter past ten
And raided our fridge.

Frederiksburgville Town
Didn't usually have monsters
But they had pasta

And so the monster
Told the little children things
About from where it came

And it sang a song
That was very short and long
And it went like this:

Gobbledegook gobbledeedee
Fricasha bulungo tirimasu wings!

The children sat stunned
It was a horrible song
You can't sing along.

Maybe only 1 year away,
Or even just 1 day,
I will be able to say...

“What is it like to fall in love?”
Asked the little girl of the young lady
The lady stooped, to look in her eyes
“It is like falling into a box of poisoned chocolates,
Sweet at first, but it will leave you bitter.”

“Whats it like to fall in love?”
Asked the little girl of the quiet gentleman
He cocked his head, to ponder a moment
“It is like listening to a symphony on the other side of a door,
Beautiful for sure, but the melody just out of reach.”

“What is it like to fall in love?”
Asked the little girl of the honest woman
She stopped her work, to find her courage
“It’s a bit like hearing a wolf howl in the dark of the wood,
Frightening just then, but it may mean you no harm.”

“What is it like to fall in love?”
Asked the little girl of the poor man’s son
The ragged man thought, to speak the truth
“It is not for from finding a mountain of fairy’s gold,
An exciting thrill, but gone in a snap of fingers.”

“What is it like to fall in love?”
Asked the little girl of the queen
She paused, to pray before she spoke
“It shouldn’t come to me I suppose,
As it’s awful hard, with a heart full of stones.”

“What’s it like to fall in love?”
Asked the little girl of the prince
He bowed, to show her his grace
“It seems to me like drinking fine ale
Tender and light the first taste, but heavy and strong by the dregs.”

“What is it like to fall in love?”
Asked the little girl of the elderly pair
He scratched his chin, to consider his choices
She smoothed her hair, to conceal with great care
“It appears to me,” said he, “like a bird with broken wings,
Gentle and small, but with care it should grow and soar.”
“It comes to me,” said she, “as an infant,
Perfect and pure, with a little luck it stays that way.”

Is it the wave kissing the sand
          or is it the ocean
                   deep from her heart
sometimes gently,
                                  often hard,
but always with passion?

Is it the sand kissing back
        or is it the land
            happily losing ground
with every kiss
             to his eternal mistress,
the occupant of his soul?

of one thing
i am sure
and that is
that i am
unsure of
myself
and it’s funny
how i can’t
sleep but my
chest closes its
eyes and hums
with a heartbeat
that is unsure of
itself, too.
i try to morph
into a body
i don’t feel
belongs to me
just so i can
fit somewhere
fit in somewhere
and i tell so
many stories
about the
universe, it
forever feels
like i am trying
to remain lost.
i am unsure
of myself;
connecting the
moles on my
skin as if they
will spell out
something bigger
so i can feel
like i matter,
at least for
a little while.
i sleep beside
myself, stare at
a reflection
so unfamiliar
i couldn’t even
identify it in
a crowd of
strangers, but
i am trying.
and one day
i’m sure i’ll
be sure
of myself but
until then,
i’ll morph into
someone i can
be proud of
and hope that
the universe
sends me back
to myself.

Alice, through the looking glass
I saw her fair, I saw her fast
Her smile like the distant past –
A mem’ry safe and sure to last…
---
But suddenly her smile turned
Her stomach ached, and quaked, and churned
And sweat rolled off her brows that burned
When, in that moment, this she learned:

That deep within that pretty face,
A haunting, hideous, out of place –
Dark and dreadful, dreary trace
Of ash and gnashing was innate

Innate in her! She saw it so!
A pushing – pulling – undertow!
Inclining toward the hollow glow
Of outer show, the inner woe
---
Alice, through the looking glass
I saw her fair, I saw her fast
Her smile like the distant past –
A mem’ry fading when she passed…
---
When she did pass from death to life
Beholding pure and perfect Light
Without a sight, but in the night
When sun arose, and shone so bright

So bright that every Darkness did
Fly and flee – it scattered, hid
From deep within her heart that bid
Her to remain in shadowed sin

Yes, He – the Good, the Faithful, True!
Made her new – through and through!
And Alice, she’s the hopeful view
In the looking glass: me and you.
---
Alice, through the looking glass
I saw her fair, I saw her fast
Her smile like the distant past –
A mem’ry safe and sure to last…

I see you standing there
I can see the pain masked by a smile
I can see how broken you are

I want to help you
I want to make you feel wanted
I want to make you happy

But I don't know how
I don't know what to do
I don't know how to act

I wish I could help you
I want to help you
I can help you

I've been through this
I know how this works
I know how I got through this

Maybe I can heal those scars on your wrist
I just want you to open up
I need you to open up

I know that it is hard
I understand what this means
I might not understand completely

I can try to understand
I will understand
I just need you to trust me

Please
Let Me
Help You
