tepid waters do not lie
gale is to cyclone
as rain to thundercloud
no amount of counter-spin
will make them anything other
than atmospheric unrest

El Niño, La Niña
how to read
the unsettled waters
upwelling from the deep
what should feed us
leaves us starving, weak

orcas encircle their kin
emaciated mother, tiny calf
dying from ocean’s lack
while we look on and moan
all the power to change
if we only cared to own it
In the Strait of Juan de Fuca (between Washington state and Vancouver Island, Canada) a resident female orca recently died from what scientists believe to be malnutrition and environmental toxins.  Her young male calf likely died as well, he was too young to survive without a mother.  The last aerial photos taken of the mother and calf show her emaciated, held afloat by family members. A heartbreaking sight.

On the heels of these deaths, there is increasing concern that this resident pod of orcas, numbering about 80 individuals, is declining to the point where it can’t recover.

Spliced

Ohh no
Here we go
Don't know
Who to show

What's my id?
Where am I from?
Once had a name
Now I'm just numb

Captured in this half life
Desert hands
In captured lands
Killing all
Whos wrong and right
Living in this half life
I'm spliced

Don't know who to show
Which puppet is in the know

All it Seems is we are all wired at the seems
Living half lives
Where we each are spliced

Am I dead?
Are you alive?
Is this my dream?
Or is this the time?
That darkness came in
To take my light.

It all seems we are wired at our seems
We all move frantically
Trying to tare them
To break free.

In this mis matched life
We want to be one
But in reality
All we are is spliced.

I know it’s good advice
to look outside, to walk –
to minimize the price
of time spent on a rock –

I know deep in my gut
that fate depends on chance,
and time spent on my ****
drifts in an endless dance.

A song glides in the air.
A song drifts in my mind –
The one outside is spare.
It cannot be defined

by notes placed on a page.
It cannot be rewound –
It only sets the stage
for music to be found.

She lived in a cupboard under the stars
Crouched and curled, laid out like the twisting Milky Way
Twinkling and breathing and playfully sighing to herself
Her fingers drew clouds in the rotting wood
And knew all of their names
She passed the time by piercing holes in the sky
And seducing the moon with whispers, epithets and subtle gestures
She drew secrets from passing birds
Teasing them out like threadworms
Softly winding them around her hair
Putting them to her ear to listen
Before swallowing each morsel
Drawing her hands down on to her lap
Unpicking her scars
To find a hiding place
For 12 years she remained there
Until there came a voice at the door

'Let me tell you a thing or two,' he said.

She clutched his hand
The other clutched her breast.
She heaved and wheezed
As the universe dropped on her chest,
Waiting for the last words
She would hear.

His lips were devine as they recited a sermon-
How good she is,
How the world needs her-
She watched his perfect eyes
Delve into her depths, see through her.
He acknowledged her beauty,
She didn't hear.

She was deaf for those words
Her beauty, nonexistent,
Her intellect, negligible,
Every word he spoke about her
Was Unintelligible.

All she mumbled with the life left in her:
'How did I deserve you, oh, heaven?'
What does it take to feel alive?

The hug of a mother? The pull of a trigger? A new high to desire?

The social networking of this world has lost its true form and art. The mouth is not for lying rather for cleansing.

Honesty is a form of quenching.

You'll never lose the people and things that truly matter, those are the artifacts and tools to feel alive. Life itself.

she is dancing down the hallway
laughing like the world is made of all the good things
like her favorite flowers and twinkling lights

and god how i wish i could bottle this moment
pull her close and protect her from the harsh reality of heartbreak
when she realizes that not everything is made out of ribbons and glitter

but for now i revel in this moment
watching her twirling down the hallway
thinking that she is my world
that she is full of all the good things
