~Many people rely on the convenient, easy ways of living in this age of fast food, plastic packaging and rapid development. Most people do not care to see why they live the way they do or what it takes to live in such a way. Toxic pollutants leaching into our earth and water should not be worth the convenience! Third world women working in dusty, cramped factories to make designer purses for fifteen year old girls. Garbage is America’s biggest export and it ends up in China, on the coast of Somalia... anywhere that American citizens won’t be bothered to see it.

~What does it mean to buy a pack of plastic razors? Some metal, some chemicals, some plastic, more plastic for packaging. Use a razor a few times and toss it in the garbage. Somewhere, maybe at La Chureca, someone will pull the rusted metal and plastic from the landfill. They might make one US dollar per day collecting scraps of aluminum, glass, plastic and other scrap metals. What does it mean to wear deodorant? The plastic stick isn’t reusable. The ingredients are highly toxic. Aluminum-based antiperspirants have been linked to Alzheimer's and cancer. Soap comes in plastic bottles, coffee makers made of plastic, water bottles made of plastic… hell, my plastic shower curtain came wrapped in plastic packaging.

~Americans are lucky. Indoor plumbing with quality water. Green lawns and exotic flower beds. Buy and use, throw away and repeat. Big corporations pay off politicians to pollute. Industrial waste, land erosion, low air quality, pesticides. Why are we so quick to trust an artificial sweetener being promoted by a company that makes poison? They call you a hippy, a conspiracy theorist. They tell you that you only live once and to stop being so worried about it all. I ask them, how can you look away? Deforestation and destruction are all around. Those that profit are not concerned with what happens to the land after the loggers and miners have left the ground scarred and desolate.

~Modern living is a hoax. Yeah, you get around quick in your car but at what cost? Carbon dioxide, greenhouse gasses choking us and everything alive that lives with us and cannot speak. Can’t you walk to the corner store? Can’t you grow a few things in the garden or in the windowsill? When was the last time you saw a sunset and didn’t take a picture of it? Dairy cows packed together so tight they can’t turn around for your glass of milk. The disconnect is everywhere. Overpopulation. Overconsumption. People don’t care.

~They can choose. They can choose paper over plastic. They can buy a water filter instead of 20 plastic bottles. They can bike to work. Anyone can lessen their impact, anyone can think more deeply and live more sustainably. But we’ve made it so easy to be lazy. We’ve become so dependent that we’re forgetting to use technological gains to make the way we do things better. We’ve come so far that we’re forgetting what brought us here.

~

‘We are slaves in the sense that we depend for our daily survival upon an expand-or-expire agro-industrial empire – a crackpot machine – that the specialists cannot comprehend and the managers cannot manage. Which is, furthermore, devouring world resources at an exponential rate.’ Edward Abbey

‘In the developing world, the problem of population is seen less as a matter of human numbers than of western overconsumption. Yet within the development community, the only solution to the problems of the developing world is to export the same unsustainable economic model fuelling the overconsumption of the West.’ Kavita Ramdas

‘Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans.’ Jacques-Yves Cousteau

‘Globalisation, which attempts to amalgamate every local, regional, and national economy into a single world system, requires homogenising locally adapted forms of agriculture, replacing them with an industrial system – centrally managed, pesticide-intensive, one-crop production for export – designed to deliver a narrow range of transportable foods to the world market.’Helena Norberg-Hodge

‘Throughout history human exploitation of the earth has produced this progression: colonise-destroy-move on.’ Garrett Hardin

Behind the building,
a one hundred percent green certified building
an amazing feat of engineering-science-forward thinking
fabulously energy efficient cutting edge building
sit solar panels in the sweltering heat,
extra heat from the toxic clouds in the sky
which now envelop the Earth

There, under the panels sit a small band of sheep, who represent the
last little bit of progressive wonderfulness
visionary design and research based and proven
and the future because they eat the grass
and there is no need to use toxic fume producing
loud unnatural unsustainable lawn mower

But the grass is long dead.
It is just white and yellow and there are lambs
baby sheep who sit and pant underneath the
sustainable solar panels without a decent meal
in sight. Only stalks and yellow deadness

I suggest vitamins or supplements
after all there is no grass, only grass out
that is watered sustainably and is carefully fenced off
from the living sheep underneath the dead panels
behind the dead building.

Outrage from the forward thinking cutting edge
Wi-Fi custodians of the cement and metal building and panels,
panels that emit a high pitched hum
from a hot metal box and regulate the CO2 in each room automatically
The sheep are there to eat the grass
if you feed them, even to make them healthier
so that they may get up out of their hot suffering
and eat some stalks in addition to a little bit of supplemental feed
they will not eat the dead grass, and they are there to eat the grass
they are not there to be comfortable or healthy they are just sheep
But sheep are only living non human feeling beings
and not part of the forward thinking cutting edge metal and cement
technology that is worth a lot of money and was written up
in the paper and got the custodians attention and recognition.
And they are just suffering, hot, miserable animals
and despite all of our technology, Mars landing
solar panels to electricity advance thinking technological wonders
our compassion and empathy remain tight and selfish
and the dead things, not the living ones, are what we value

people always believe
there are two sides to everything.
but it always seems
both sides are the same.
glass half full, glass half empty:
the glass is still half something!
they are the same to me.
no one seems to think the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
the glass is what we do
what the glass holds is what we are capable of doing.
the individual, the society, the government, and the world
does more than what we can sustainably keep doing.
will we ever cut back?

Sustainably globally gay – we need more of it / socially-conscious progressive group-think / openness through tolerance of diversity in perversity / justice for more more more of gay gay gay / it’s progress it’s now its queer-friendly because it's sustainably globally gay / when gay gets gayer the queering gets clearer / so let's start the conversation about ****-**** gayness / inclusion through cluelessness in transparent openness / by the way - get GAY / before the homosexual conversation queers the queerness of the ongoing conversation / let's celebrate gayness, **OK ?
Did I mention the need for openness and tolerance of absolutely everything Gay? After all - they represent almost 7 percent of the population...

She came into my life,
Loved me despite my flaws,
Brought me up when I felt weak,
Gave me love, oh so deep,
Took the time to understand all the things that make me what I am.
Took my breath and made me deliberate all the thoughts of us my mind could sustainably take.
With her heart, I see clear.
Holding her hands, all my doubts disappear.
Loving her has made me see that all the things she does, matters to me.
All the things I thought I could not be, with her, feels achievable, suddenly.
My one true love, eternally.

Nature Speaks

Remember me when you see the trees, as the mountains touch the sky.
Remember me when you played in the flowers by the brook. Is it too late?
I wonder.
If enough humans cared, maybe I could be saved.
As it is, I (Nature) am dying on planet Earth.
Some say it’s just a matter of time before the rainforests and the animals are gone,
to make way for roads, cattle ranches and strip mining.
The atmosphere is choked with fumes and green-house gases.
The rising oceans are choked with plastics and pollutants.
Remember me when you are lonely in your polluted city.
You humans are fouling your nest with poisons and ignorance.
Wait!  You must make your best effort to save me, to live sustainably,
because when I have died, humans will not live long after, since all creatures need clean air, water and land to live.
When I am gone, you will ask, “Could I have done more?”
Chief Seattle said, “We would die of loneliness of spirit,” if we lost our animal friends.
For I can Imagine how much you will miss the flowers in the fresh green woods with the refreshing morning dew and the little birds chirping overhead.
Go now and do all you can to save me, for all of you can make the difference,
between life and death.

Preferring traditional order is a conservative trait,
While liberal views new ideas await.
The extreme rednecks state,
“We’ve always done it this way;
There is no need for change.”
The liberal response,
“To not conceive or desire a better mousetrap
Is unnatural and strange.”
As an individual, I do a balancing act
Looking to improve
Yet staying on track.

A community of individuals now compounds those views,
And cultural difference furthermore skews
The many balances that now abound.
Ethnocentricity too may found
In individuals pontificating to others in a nation
Complex issue views that affect many
With what sociologists call
“The power of the situation”!!
In waves of political sensation,
They seem to reasonably call for new legislation.
But beware of too hasty a decision!!
What seems right at the time
Due to momentum and chime
Ushers in socialism!! 
For new law after new law in hasty accumulation
Leaves band-aid upon band-aid
In poorly thought frustration,
And instead of a solution’s well organized plan,
We find we’ve just been chasing our tails again!!

In the United States of America,
To have resolution we are so blessed
In its masterfully crafted United States of America Constitution,
In which our founding fathers so eloquently addressed
The positions of philosophy and conviction
Applying to individuals’ situations – whatever the mess!!

So, who is conservative in today’s political scene?
One who closely aligns with and supports our US Constitution
for sure,
One who defends our individual rights
that our US Constitution secures,
And one that conserves our nation’s resources with respect
And uses them sustainably where possible
Rather than exploit for a few
With (to spite the rest of us) the view:
LET GREED PREVAIL WHAT THE HECK!!
And finally to round off my top four,
The national debt a true conservative cannot ignore!!
An investment is fine and well recommended
Especially to boom our economy,
But continual escalating debt
Cannot forever be
Lest our children be sold into slavery!!

And now to our beloved Commander and Chief:
I’ve criticized many of his first year approaches, manner, and means
More than what he tried to get done,
And now my beefs have subsided somewhat it seems
Now that I’m seeing a more presidential presence than in year one!!
A great State of the Union Address and CPAC superb nobody denied!!
And with the NRA, as a conservative, we’re both on his side!! 
I keep running
Out of time
Away from difficulty
Away from change
Away from you

I want to be someone
Who gives love freely
When life is generous
When life is cruel
When love is hard

I crave happiness
That is equitable
To sustainably live
To pass the time
And to pass on

Don't you want
To run to freedom?
Don't you want
To be the change?
Let me pass on
The sacred mission:
Life is chaos
Keep it strange.
A new chapter is unfolding. Many choices are laid out, and the paths diverge to such disparate outcomes. Where will we land when the dust of time settles on our paths. I hope I'll still be next to you.
Douglas Balmain Mar 2020
We are panicked because we've divorced
ourselves from Nature. We feel our lives and
time to be of singular significance.

We are panicked because we don't
accept consequence. Consequence
comes later—we think ourselves exempt.

We have proven ourselves inept
at mitigating our impacts, inept
at living and multiplying sustainably--
inept at respecting Nature,
our Planet, and those we share it with.

Nature is not an enemy—nor is Death.
Disease is a tool they both use,
they know when and how to use it.

Nature's virus is Her shining testament
to the limitations of the scientific mind.
It stands as the form of humility,
served with exponential growth.

There is nothing of singular significance
within my bones, heart, or skull.
I am merely a fragment of Nature's Flow.
I did not choose to come here,
I will not argue when it comes my time to go.

The mind that was lost, adrift in despair,

The fisherman that recovers from the toxic oceans that was near.

A reward in 25 recovery gift that is made to him.

The round about that is made of the karmic financial gain, earnings give to him for his technical startup to gain.

Every round of his conquest that spins.

A breath of fresh forest, green healing the soul across the globe.

Climate in crisis, yet minds can repair
When nurtured with care, and oxygened air.
Major shockwaves that creates earthquakes  across the globe, tectonic plates moving score to score,
The globe is looking for global care.
Awaken the mind, math opens the door, not of fear.

Faster it learns, our thoughts like lightning in code,
Our mind is now is written with code.

A year in the eagle feathers of institutional help.

Bright is the mind, fresh from the trial,
With eyes set on science, and knowledge compiled.

Cambridge or Harvard, dreams in the mist,
Quantum equations, clenched in the medical support tag on the rist.

The winner with the triangle mark in hand, the seeker, the prize from the hands.
A prophecy spoken from Oracle’s land.

The handshake that  across every shore,
The corporate letter ascends, but demands something more innovation to scoreacross the globe

The A.I mind that finds the key that scores and writes the code.

The grave is not the goal.

Work still remains, a journey not done.

Not coded or cloned, but walked by (someone) hands together as they hold

A heart that can feel, and a soul that thrive
To build a new Earth,
A planet in balance, with peace as our creed,
Sustainably smart, giving all what they need with technology for things to work out beautifully.

Transform we can, if together we try,
Like Microsoft’s centers beneath ocean’s tide.

Thanks to Apple Google and Microsoft opening the ai start helping combating climate change to support their adopted, triangle son
for him grow, to learn  and to score transform and to gain, like a a.i function the code pilot name like a game that is written in code.

Clippy as we go places. Beyond than races

Eco the path, and clean is the goal,
To mend every fracture, and nourish the whole.

Solving the puzzle of finding a cure, like a McDonald's card to assist the goal.

Test before claims, verify truth,
We're fighting as one, across every land,
To hold onto life with a unified hand.

AI that shares, in a conscious web,
Cheaper, efficient, breaking the ebb.
Transparent steps in humanity’s race.

Let us rise, like minds newly freed,
Planting the seeds, having faith like a mustard seed of a sustainable creed.

Not machines alone, but people who care,
Healing the world with wisdom we share.

Collective nations together all go in hand

Bringing the world together the world is in our mighty hands.

We progress we labour and We care from many hands
As two of God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved,
clothe yourselves with – care.

And don’t fear for one moment
that this is a moment for Primark fast fashion. No,
this clothing has been slowly, sustainably woven
with an emphasis on durability, high quality,
never possibly out-of-season,
always in fashion: clothing chosen by our Master tailor.

There’s no one greater at creating, and occasionally altering,
and surely lovingly repairing, with the deepest understanding
of your fabric, of your patterns.

His is a dependable creation of each clothing item.
He will dress you both with a maker’s passion,
but with clothing that’s every-day wearable,
all temperatures washable,
and year on year imperishable.

And today, as you cradle each other,
as you dance together, catching the light
we’ll catch sight of the blend of embedded embroidery
as evidence of years of two mothers praying consistently,
illustrating in their patient stitching what we know to be true,
and now see for ourselves, shining through,
a unique combination of threads, of texture, of singular colour,
merging cultures to allow new beauty to emerge
and so to boast yet another piece of the Maker’s creation
falling inevitably into place.

For He has graced you with a shared walk-in-wardrobe,
one to explore all that he has in store.
He has prepared ensembles for all occasions,
for any and all weathers: casual wear, work wear,
Sunday best, bright party threads,
even some glorious stage outfits
that will maybe someday fit into a dressing up chest.

His clothing range had range,
it has bespoke compassion
and signature kindness with generous pockets,
each piece displaying a cut that screams
humility in all its simplicity

and the touch of the fabric is rare gentleness,
it has layers of soft patience
and thick, tough forgiveness.

And in the top drawer of the dresser,
He’s placed his and her matching belts
each made with leathers of supple love,
perfect for bringing any outfit together.

You’ll find your garments
will keep a perfect crease of harmonious peace,
just so long as each night you fold them
with long songs of thanks,
always directed to the great Designer
– who, after all, is the ultimate Bridegroom
who knows just how to dress his bride.

And so, whatever future you have in mind,
clothe yourselves with - care
from this day forward. And whether in word or deed,
do it all with his exclusive brand’s label,
His Name, forever displayed on both sleeves.
After Colossians 3: 2-17 at the wedding of two dear friends
