"My favorite thing is to go where I've never been "
Diane Arbus died of a barbituate overdose at the age of 48 in 1971 fully dressed in a bathtub of water , knowing her death would be recorded in film and would be as bazaar as the pictures she took in real life.

I love the smell of poets’ cooch

the stale shoes of grandfathers

Don’t torture our kpop stars---

The women we love

To make them beautiful

Suicide is a viable option
when ur depressed & in the limelight;
Where do u go after dark,
to some smoky ***** den---
It’s been days, months, years since I saw u last----
after the sinking of the Sewol
that destroyed an entire generation
of innocent lives---

Come home to me where I will love u

In winter & ice-cold lemonade in summer---
It’s been months since I saw u last
& we showered together
washing away our sins to be reborn as angels
after our mutual suicide---

There's a being seated
at the window...the breaking
ends of perception mothering
their pearl.
Its prayerful poise electrifies
the passing light of day...
hideous and beautiful
blending blindly.
Purple with majesty, as a distant
mountaintop crammed through
the eye of a needle...pointedly
soul through the driftings of its
original score.
Unlit senses that can't place
their miraculous conveyance...
entering and exiting the same window
simultaneously.
Aware that it's aware...there are troubles
in paradise of only supreme Authoring,
as latent creation forthwith heartbreak.
Pounding its very chest...with oceanic
spanning--faces upon faces of The Deep,
Diane Arbus photoing a featureless form.

RIP: The greatest show on earth

The announcement came:
This was the last year for the circus–
The working man's circus,
The last ******* child of Ringling Brothers
And P.T. Barnum

Good, my wife said
Think about the animals.
I nod in absent agreement -

But I am at Coney Island as it might have been, once.
And watching amusement parks in Celeron, Bay Ridge, the Palisades and a hundred others places vanish -
One by one like altar candles extinguished before the recessional.

I am a young boy staying up late tearing through Ray Bradbury's "Something Wicked this Way Comes"
while everyone else in the house is sleeping.

I am at a City Lights book store in San Francisco
Where Lawrence Ferlinghetti is sharing his cotton candy with Diane Arbus and Allen Ginsburg

I am listening to "Take Five" in stereophonic sound.

I am behind the Big-Top
with Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Dickens
trying to catch a glimpse of the show through the shadows -
Then being told to get away by a large sweaty man who doesn't smile.

I am eating peanuts salted in the shell.

I am holding my daughters tiny hand
while my son hides behind me–
a clown is walking by.

the three best abstract expressionists;

models are so interchangeable one can
a different model every day & its like
the same girl; one can marry a fashion
model & still not be able tell her apart
from her friends; models mostly date
rock stars & rich intellectuals; poets &
painters get stuck w/ strippers & other
painters but it's okay; we're all junkies,
alcoholics, great lovers, confused genius
David Foster Wallace did the world a
favor by hanging himself; Francesca

if Emily Dickinson was a stripper
She'd be Candy Barr or Bonnie Parker
kissing bad men in the shadows of the
glinting stripper pole: Martha Graham
was a circus cooch dancer before
art seized her atomic heart;
before the Jewish plains rose from
shetl ghost pogroms foretold
in Midwestern American daydreams
of iron & cement; the world divided
into Jim Crow hell's gates to heaven;

I was once on facebook; it feels like millions
of years ago measured in days; Zuckerberg
is such a fascist-*****; whipped by his
Asian wife & crippled by fatherhood; not a
hipster just a **** w/ a lawyer willing to hold
his hand while he steals money & sells mirrors;

an avant-garde photography scene
(here I should mention Lilleth Leda,
top photographer & stylist Renaissance
woman & model herself reminding me
of Sandra Romaine, inspired in part
by Bunny Yeager & Diane Arbus;
Sylvia Plath, Edna St. Vincent Millay,
Gertrude Stein all bubbling in a pagan
stew of evening & midnight onto broad
daylight through skylight & Kat is part
of that vision of tomorrow)

in Capetown, SA inspired my art & writing
by blending classic Americana
burlesque w/ art photography & realism;
stark & minimalist w/ a gothic edge;
very spirited yet loving; interracial but as
much (Kat Trim, not her real name,
a model-photographer challenged &
shattered me w/ pure purple cat-like love;
destroying the essentially shadowy barrier
between life & art; she is the I Am)

as u'd think; bourgeois certainly (Kat acknowledged as the universal muse of the scene combining a Bettie Page-ish
casual attitude w/ an Isadora-ish
spontaneity of movement;

she knows & more; she knows I love her
& that she inspires me to no end
I can see rainbows in Kat's brunette mane)
Dave established himself at the apex
of the scene marrying his long-time
partner, a photographer equally unique &
perhaps a tad more edgy, easy access to
a female body always a boon to any artist;

they know me there as Johnny Noir;
they all sold out for the money but kept
the scene together so they continued

to grow & influenced everything from
kpop to American alt-country music to
Russian strippers striking circus poses

Theda Bara was in the movies---
just barely out of the nickelodeon
Millay the hottest poet in town---
a war going on overseas;
walking w/ Sara beneath the gas lamps
along 5th Avenue to 291
& the new MOMA;
her smiles faint as smoke
rising from the street---horse-drawn
carriages were still the way around;
through Central Park towards
the west where farmland still thrives
beneath flesh-colored paint-coated
alabaster statues that were naughty
before Gypsy Rose Lee
& panhandling photographers
created Film Noir: Weegee, Arbus
& Adams---playing off the pioneers
of German Expressionism, Hollywood
was hot & far away (we were in the village,
I ****** her in the drafty flat---always
1000-headed Medusa comes to me
in lucid dreams; I wait for the gay 90's
to be over---walking w/ Sara,
we see the new photography
that will become nearly all Bettie---
onstage is a tempest & a blaze;
she says no time-traveling tonight---
no prophesying---just be here now w/ me,
dawning hippy lights, twelve girls
standing naked in a field w/ their
****** downtown ragtime rhythms;
Kerouac so drunk he couldn't be impressed
by knickers & ankle-boots like I was,
smitten w/ Sara's pale face & small *******;
her cheeks burning like coals
as we sat on a snowy bench
laughing at the chilly birds
flocking to the steamy warmth of her fur---
this was a holiday all our own,
no seventh fleet in sight, strings so hot, swing
already legendarily echoing from uptown
where Harlem will one day be---
but now it's chilly---let's go to Starbucks
& get a hot pink drink;
she says---oh, baby, not tonight,
I have expensive ***
we can drink as much of as we want---
we will be blinded by tomorrow
&
the war
will end soon
