When I just was a girl,
with pink ribbons and skinny, bony legs.
I was naïve, without a care in the world.

I'd dream of the someday,
of what the future would become.
I didn't know about the heartache, pain,
the struggles lain out before me.
I knew nothing of the mountains I (w)could climb.
Nor the mud I'd crawl(ed) through.

In my perfect world, I was in a bubble.
In a valley that would drop
my feet out from under me.
I would fall.
Trailing into the arching past.

I would pay every dollar, I couldn't afford,
Just to go back to being that skinny, bony child, draped in her pink ribbons.
Lost in my naïve world of 'what's to become...'

If only I'd known it all,
I would have said 'I love you' at the fall.

Take me to the city, boy.
Take my hand and drag me along
with nothing but the clothes on my back-
I'm sure we'll be okay.

Take me away to where the lights are pretty
and the noise muffles our voices
and we can swim with the crowds.

Take me where anything is possible,
to where the money and fame
and stress and hectic are.

Take me away to the city, boy.
Take me away from the small town
too far from anything.

Take me from the normal,
from reality.

Take me to the city,
where we can be who we want
and they can't tell us no.

Take me to the city, boy.
we won't have to sleep
and we can keep smiling
and loving
and dreaming
so long as the lights stay on.

Take me to the city, boy.
it's all I've ever wanted.

walking through the streets,
lost in the sea, of controversy
working by day
blacked out by night.
looking for the binge,
that’ll cover the scars in front of me

walking through the streets,
under the lights - dark hiding the fight.
alone, by choice
not mine, your’s it seems.
but i’ll be lost come morning -
hiding from the feelings you fed me

lead me to heaven
but I'm sure I won't get in
your heart and mine
isn’t enough to make up for my sins

lead me to heaven
but i’m sure i won’t get in
your heart and mine
isn’t enough to make up for my sins

lost at sea,
adrift in the mess i’ve seen
can’t you see the man i’ve become?
just a distant memory of who I was -
putting the dirt behind, me
working to be - clean

under heaven’s gleam -
running from the fight,
the light - you once showed me
as distant as the stars,
I wish to be
swimming in come morning’s light

lead me to heaven
but i’m sure i won’t get in
your heart and mine
isn’t enough to make up for my sins

lead me to heaven
but i’m sure i won’t get in
your heart and mine
isn’t enough to make up for my sins

but i’m sure,
the closest i’ll get to heaven’s grace -
is the beauty in your eyes,
and the heart in your soul.
lead me to heaven,
let me stare your eyes, just once more.
I believe my soul is rotten
Yet you say it is not

I see my face, it's so ugly
Yet you say I'm pretty

I think my body is destroyed
Yet you say I've earned my stripes

I know my heart is beyond repair
Yet you say you'll help mend it

Can you really see so deep into my eyes?
Into my soul?
My heart?
Sometimes I think you're blind
Because everything about me is *torn all apart
in the dawning days
of the Earth
an ancient poet conjured
a verse from a magical *** of words
through the ages
generations of poets
have gone to this magical ***
to draw from its
well spring of words
which
are replete in golden
ingots

Pain slices through his heart
As he watches her
Once again
Beat herself with that
Whip of Intolerance
Each time he is Stunned
By the Violence
She directs at herself
His heart bleeds
As he wonders....
          as he wonders
If she will ever find
Acceptance and Tolerance
Of her self
That she so freely gives to others

A bell rings in the distance
I hear but don't see
The past calls out
But I cannot answer
I'm speechless
So much at stake
Yet I can do nothing
Frozen in space
Surrounded by everything
All my senses alive
I still cannot move
Yet...
The bell continues to ring
And I can still hear it's melody
All the while...
I'm not moving
