I have loved you
From the moment our eyes
Met across the crowded street
On that scorching summer day

And though summer
Soon came to a bitter end
I have loved you through
Every season ever since

And I guess I always will
The copper bells glisten
Swaying in the sunshine
I pause as I listen
To the tinkling
Of the wind chimes

In the distance, they ring
A gentle melody -
I hear their songs
The unsaid words they sing

How sweet is their music
Sweet the joy they bring
Such is the wonder -
The magic of little things
What’s meant stays,
quiet and sure.

True love waits,
even when we turn away.

What isn’t ours
slips,
like water,
gone before we know it.
....sun will rise tomorrow
Waves retreat too far,
leaving ribs of old whales bare,
oceans gasp for breath.

my eyes are doughnut-holed;
rolled in fluorescent calflove
& eaten by the long walk there

to where she talks, florid
and smelling of sweetgrass,
of her lemon pancake fling.
