We were flying like Hell down a one-track line
Pressing our luck and holding back time
Like a naked freight train running all downhill
We rode with our Hearts that we couldn’t keep still
Uncle Charlie said don’t worry son, I’ve got your back
There ain’t but one train from Hell and its right on track
He gave me a wink and let that whistle blow
He said when we get there we’ll be on the go
We roared and we rumbled on a dead man’s run
I was so scared of it all I was having fun
All through the night we rolled, and we rolled
Hoping to God that those rails would hold
I said Uncle Charlie you’re quite the engineer
You make it look easy, you don’t even steer
He smiled and said you just follow the tracks
And read the burn from those old smokestacks
You shovel the coal like you’re feeding Hell’s fire
You follow your dreams with passion, heart and desire
I had a wild dream about my grandfather one time. He worked for the railroad all his life, it was his only job he ever had. He wasn't an engineer but hey this is poetry.
Me, myself and I had a get together
We said, let’s talk about the weather
I said is it hot enough myself, me said me too
I said let’s talk about love, myself said why
Me said it always makes me cry
Myself looked at me and said what do you know about it
I said you are both full of ****
Me got mad, myself got sad
I said I never had it so bad
We are a mess, me, myself and I
Myself and me said I was the reason why
We all cried our hearts out together
We said let’s talk about the weather
My Grandmother used to have a full on conversation with herself.
Love is a blind eye and a broken heart
Can’t see the trouble before the start

You see what you want to and it all looks good
Can’t show you anything but I wish I could

There’s trouble in the making; love doesn’t come cheap
You will pay for it all, even if there’s nothing to keep

You won’t see it coming, you won’t have a clue
There’s going to be trouble and it’s all on you

Love is a blind eye and a cold broken heart
You won’t find the pieces after you are torn apart

An empty hole where your heart used to be
A desperate soul just dying to be free
For all the love sick poets. Here is my version.
I’ve got 1200 poems, all shapes and sizes
Some in verse, others in reprises
I mostly rhyme, 99 percent of the time
I beat up the world and then I whine
A poet’s lament, I ***** about this and that
I post some online, try to start a chat
Sometimes I write them just for fun
Proud of myself when I finish another one
I’m all in, heart, soul and mind
Writing down every word I can find
I try not to go too far, I don’t know when to stop
I just keep going until my pen says drop

What kind of Man
What kind of man does what men do
Cheat and steal, then lie to me and you
What kind of man starts a war with his pen
Knowing it will cause the death of many men

What kind of man can change the world we’re in
What kind of man can change other men
Where is the man that can lead us to love
Where are the men guided from above

What man has done for his fellow man
That only true men will do what they can
What kind of man stands tall against men
What kind of man can save us from sin
Here's my deep thought for today. Man, that's deep even for me.

The Cynical Poet
I’m in a cynical mood
Time to write something rude
I don’t care what you think
It doesn’t matter, I won’t blink
For all of you who think you know it
Maybe it’s time for the cynical poet
What can I say, sometimes I'm a cynical SOB.

Red Hot Lovin’
Ice cold beer, red hot lovin’
Talk some trash, do some pushing and shoving
Cold beer keeps the wit so smart
Play the game like it was an art

Red hot lovin’ is the prize
Strong intent between the sighs
One more smile and you’ll be mine
One more kiss in the clear moonshine

One more sip I’m feeling high
One more wink; another try
Can’t wait much longer to be with you
Can’t wait for it to be true

Red hot lovin’, you’re mine at last
Sunrise don’t you climb too fast
Red hot lovin’ in the night
Red hot lovin’ burning bright
It's about 110 in the shade here. Time for some red hot lovin'.
Birthdays and gravity, the cause of it all
The older I get the more often I fall
Too old to have nice long hair
Too heavy in the middle to fly through the air

Birthdays and gravity, you are slowing me down
Old and heavy, I’m stuck to the ground
Too many candles and too much cake
Birthdays and gravity, that’s all it takes
Happy birthday to all.

Poets
Poets write poems
They think and think
Pickup their pens, it’s over
I' sure this is not haiku, at least it's short and to the point. We poets are a funny bunch.

10,000
10,000 miles I can hear you calling
10,000 times I am still falling
Next to you that’s where I belong
Next to you that’s where I feel strong

10,000 days every day is still the same
10,000 nights every night you call my name
In your arms there is nowhere else to be
In your arms I am you and you are me

10,000 beats our hearts work together
10,000 steps we will walk in to forever
In your heart I know light shines for me
In your heart I know that’s where I need to be

10,000 kisses each like I’ve never felt
10,000 arms around me I think I’m going to melt
In your eyes I can see the light
In your eyes I know this is right

10,000 miles we have traveled up and down
10,000 times we’ll be coming back around
In your dreams just keep on loving me
In your dreams that’s where I will be
Please enjoy. 10,000 is a lot.

5 Words
Dark
Night

Love
5 words can say a lot.
I’m addicted to memories, they flood my brain
Some cause happy tears, others cry in pain
Long days in the sunshine, the nights we had
I try to remember good times, but there are some bad

Strong memories of family, for all the ones who’ve passed
Thoughts of all the love I felt, I hope those memories last
I remember the days of summer we all spent together
I try to forget the days of stormy weather

I can’t remember it all, I’m getting too old
I can still feel love in every memory I hold
Life is just a simple thing, we live, love and die
My addiction to memories, always makes me cry
Another one of my many addictions.

My New Pad
I’ve got a new pad, 50 pages
That’s a lot of room for my rages
Enough space to spill my soul
Getting to the cardboard, that’s my goal
It might take me a while
I’ll have to laugh, cry and smile
When I finally get to the end
The cardboard will be my friend
Another follow up to 39 Pages to Go, 38 Poems and Waiting on Cardboard. Thanks for reading along, I love you guys!!
Finally some cardboard, where I feel at home
I can write the words I’m proud to own
The other pages, they were OK I guess
A few good rhymes arranged in a mess
I like the cardboard, it treats me so well
It’s the last of the stories I tried to tell
My new pad is clean, it’s going to be great
As for the cardboard, I’ll just have to wait
For those who have read my other poems;  39 More Pages to Go and 38 poems, I finally made to the cardboard. This is what it said to me.
I drink; therefore I write
I write, therefore I am

Words that can’t be spoken
Must be read with an open heart

My heart bleeds words
I am a poet at heart

My pen writes the truth
The truth comes with pain

The thousands of words I’ve written
Are only tears on the page

A hopeless romantic
Makes a good poet

Love is a teacher
I have failing grades

Only death is permanent
Life is just a temporary dream

Love is a fleeting sunset
I live for the night

Dreams are for the dreamers
Reality is for the wicked

Time is for everyone
No one has the time

I am a heartbeat
Skip to my Lou my darling

The past is a place to stay
The future has no vacancies

The winners take the prize
Second place is the first losers

We are all crazy here
It’s not a contest

In my mind I’m a hero
Time loves a hero

A lost soul is a disguise
Only a fool turns and runs

Life waits for no one
I’m already too far behind

If I only had a moment
I could tell you my heart

Tomorrow only brings today
Yesterdays are long gone

Darkness balances the light
Sorrow weighs the heart

Youth is a fleeting dream
Old age is hell

Mysteries are to wonder
Nature is to wander

I can only speak for me
A speech is for everyone

Sentimental values tax the heart
Letting go is the price

I can only write what I feel
Poetry shows my soul to all

I thank my muse
For making me write

I thank my fellow poets for being there. I know you pour out your hearts and bare your souls. I feel your pain and I respect your words.

With passion and heart; **
Sorry for the length of this one. My muse said it had to be this way.
My whiskey bottle is crying, it’s empty for the night
Guess I’ll just sleep it off until the morning light
Tomorrow will be better, my bottle will be full
I can take the cap off and have another full pull
My whiskey keeps me sober; it helps to hide the pain
It holds back the sorrows that seem to pour like rain
Now it’s the afternoon and my bottle’s working fine
I feel better as the whiskey clouds my mind
My whiskey bottle is sleeping, dreaming of tomorrow
Thinking about drowning all that pain and sorrow
Wash away the troubles; rinse away the blues
Soaking down the problems that always come in two’s
Now I’ve got my cap off; tilted with the bubbles running free
Keep them going; keep it flowing, till I can’t see
Another from a song book. Technically I'm a beer drinker, but a drinker is a drinker.
When you feel down
Don’t know what to do
When you need somebody
Hold on, I’m coming to you

When you’re lonely
And you need a friend
When you’re feeling so blue
Hold on, I’m coming to you

Hold on, hold on, hold on
I’m coming to you
Hold on, hold on, hold on
I’m coming to you

When you’re far away
And you want me so near
Whatever you do
Hold on, I’m coming to you

When we’re alone
And its only me and you
You can hold on
Hold on, I’m coming to you

Hold on, hold on, hold on
I’m coming to you
Hold on, hold on, hold on
I’m coming to you
This one is from one of my "songbooks". Sing along if you can.

Getting Older
I’m wondering about the state of my life
It seems as dull as an old pocket knife
No satisfaction in the work I do
No colors but grey and blue

I’m older now and maybe wiser somehow
Seen a lot of time go by up to now
Looking back, it was all so quick
Got a few memories that seem to stick

I remember love, I remember pain
I remember playing out in the rain
I remember people, time and places
I don’t remember names when I see their faces

How much older does one have to be
To understand the things, you need to see
Does age give you rights to win in a fight
Does it let you be the one to see the light

Now it seems that time goes by slow
And it moves based on what you know
Experience can teach you later on
It comes after the lesson is known

I don’t get too excited any more
There’s no mystery behind every door
Been there, done that and moved on
Seen everything I’ve been shown

Looks like old age is for looking back
Wishing for another crack
Wouldn’t do it all over again
Unless it came out the same in the end

So, I’m growing old just for fun
I got wrinkles from too much sun
Can’t say that it’s said and done
Any day just might be the one
I'm too old to lie about my age. Besides when you get old, you don't have to be nice to people.

Those She Devils
Grandpa said watch out for that she devil
He said you go on out there and be a rebel
Here I am, straight shooting son of a six gun
A halfcocked momma and a six-shooting daddy
I was shot in the back seat of a ’56 Caddy

Later in life I learned how to drive
I learned how it felt to be alive
I partied on like a restless soul
Can’t replace the time I stole

Now I’m older, I guess Grandpa was right
You’ll be married Sunday, if you find love Saturday night
Who’s to blame when it’s all said and done
Grandpa said those she devils sure can be fun
My grandpa was a wise man.

Like to Dream
I like to dream about you
The way your kisses taste so sweet
I like to dream about you
The way you breathe when you feel the heat

I like to dream I can hold you
From sunset till the morning light
I like to dream I can hold you
Nothing else seems so right

And in my dreams, I see you
As I look into your eyes
And in my dreams when I see you
I can see sparks as they fly

I like to dream about you
About the things you do
I like to dream about you
I know they will come true

In my dreams you are an angel
White lights and everything
In my dreams you are my angel
Prettiest one I’ve ever seen
Dreaming about my lover.

Love Is
Love is the itch
that I can’t scratch
It comes pretty easy
but there’s always a catch

love, if you get in
you may never get out
what you have to promise
will leave it no doubt

love is the pain
that won’t go away
once you get hooked
you are hooked to stay

love is the feeling
like you’ve never felt
love can take a cold heart
and make it all melt

love will make you crazy
drive you out of your mind
once you get outside your head
you don’t know what you might find

love is the happiness
when you see that special smile
when she puts her arms around you
and holds on for a while

love is like the future
cause you know what you’ve got
you can’t just give a little bit
cause you know you need a lot

love is like glue
that binds me to you
together we are stuck
so, our love must be true

38 Poems
CE Uptain Jul 11
I couldn’t sleep the other night
Thought I’d get into a late night write
The words suddenly just started to flow
My pen and myself were both in the know

I wrote so many words, I couldn’t stop
I penned and I penned, putting titles on top
Happy words, sad words, words to live by
Words about love under the midnight sky

The hours passed quickly, more with each rhyme
I was lost on the pages, I was lost in that time
I just kept writing, every word I could find
Trying and trying to empty my mind

When I looked up it was six in the evening
I was so tired, my mind thoughts were leaving
I had finished and finally took a break
I had 38 poems without one single mistake

Follow up to 39 more pages to go
Don't believe the part about no mistakes, I had to get a new eraser.

My Library
CE Uptain Jul 11
I’ve got 61 volumes, with over a thousand files
Some full of crying, some full of smiles
I’ve got volumes of love, volumes of life
There’s a lot about me, a bunch about my wife

I have a few funny ones, you know I’m a cynic
I’ve got rants about the world, everybody’s in it
I go on and on about people, all different kinds
When I post online, we poets share our minds

I’m always writing, since about 1975
It keeps me humble; it keeps me alive
Sometimes my writing is off the top of my head
I’ll be writing poems, at least until I’m dead
I was thinking about all the stuff I have written over the years. A few months back I got all of my old hand-written notes organized on the computer. Thought I'd let you guys know about it.

Side By Side
CE Uptain Jul 11
Forget the good times that we had
Remember what was good is now all so bad
Can’t remember that time we snuck away
Or how we spent that cold and rainy day

Laughter cries as the days go slowly by
Every night gets longer like the darkened sky
Kisses long, yet only once remembered
Love from a feeling down to just a word

Remember me; I’m the one who said forever
Remember me, when I said that I would never
Remember me; I’m the one there in the moonlight
Remember me; I’m the one there holding you tight

Afternoons and those old lonely nights
Mornings come, I just don’t see the daylights
Memories they seem to fade with the afternoon sun
I remember when it was just one to one

Remember me; I’m the one that you said you could run to
Remember me; I said that I would never hurt you
Remember me; I’m the one with my arms open wide
Remember me; I’m the one, I’m your side by side
Another old one. Hope it's still good.

Midnight Sun
CE Uptain Jul 11
I am the midnight sun
I am always on the run
Chasing down the break of day

I am the midnight sun
I am the only one
Who can show you the way

I am the midnight sun
I am the fire that’s never done
I am the only one

The only one to burn so bright
The only one who can light the night
I am the midnight sun

I am the midnight sun
Only there for anyone
Only there to see you run

I am the midnight sun
Burning bright for anyone
Anyone who needs to run

My Happy Pen
CE Uptain Jul 11
This must be my sad pen,
that’s all it wants to write
It’s sad because my lover,
    she only wants to fight

My pen and I are lonely,
    no one to hold tonight
We can only see the darkness,
    we cannot see the light

My pen and I used to be happy,
my lover was by my side
Now we share the blackened sky,
where we can run and hide

Someday soon I’ll find my happy pen,
write about how good our love was
My happy pen will make me smile,
that’s what my happy pen does

Life’s Moment
CE Uptain Jul 10
Life is but a moment, only time will tell
We live, we love, we pass on through
Memories are our only hope that we stay awhile
Deeds done well and things left undone, the struggle day to day
No one wants to be forgotten, no one wants to be left alone
We are here together for the time that we have
It’s what we do, what we say, how we live
Its love and family and what we make do
Our time is not long, the sun sets quickly
It is ours to stand in the light, all is gone within the dark
Fear not for love awaits, worry not for we are all with you
I did some wondering a while back.

Sing about You
CE Uptain Jul 10
I could write a song about how the world goes round and round
I could sing about how my life goes up and down
Every word is like a snapshot of my soul
What I dream, what I love and what I like to hold
When I sing about the part that makes it all come true
The world would know everything I love about you

You’re the one that holds me up, when the world puts me in a spin
You’re the reason when I fall down, that I want to get up again
When you hold me in your arms, the world just goes away
Another night of your sweet love and I can face the day

With your love in my heart, the world doesn’t stand a chance
The band is playing our sweet song, come on baby let’s dance
The world may go round and round, as life goes up and down
I can’t wait another day, for your love to come back around

The world will twist and turn its way, night to day again
It might put me down so low, I might not ever win
Holding you can stop the world and make me feel alright
You don’t have to stay too long, just get me through the night

When the sun comes up again, your love will be with me
You will be the song I sing; you will be the light I see
All day long I’ll think of you, your love shines so bright
When the daylight fades to dark, I will have you for the night
Take me for the night again, hold me in your arms
Keep me safe and warm, sooth me with your charms
You’re the one I sing about; you make it all come true
To the world I sing everything I love about you
Just another love song. Oh wait, didn't they write a song about that?

Emotional Exercise
CE Uptain Jul 8
I get my emotional exercise jumping to conclusions
Working out, to weaken my delusions
My warmup starts with bad morning news
This day is going south, before I get my running shoes
My cardio is done when I get really mad
I have a cool down period, after I get sad
My endurance comes from running down my dreams
Jogging in the marathons, powered by my screams
My strength training routine is carrying my heavy load
I get my reps from hauling it, up and down the road
My form is rather rough these days, my core has gotten weak
I work on my reaction time, only when I have to speak
Getting stretched, I’m too thin from dodging all the lies
Repetition comes from all those tries
Hydration comes from crying all these tears
I’ve been working out by myself for many years
My well-being is based on my emotional exercise
I like to start the day early, just about sunrise
I exercise in my mind, workout hard most everyday
I sit and think, then I write what I’m going to say
Now I’ve had my workout, it’s time for me to rest
I know tomorrow’s routine will keep me at my best
Here's my workout routine, no wonder I'm fat. LOL

Burn for You
CE Uptain Jul 8
What does it take to keep a good man burning
What does it take to keep a good heart yearning
I want to burn like a winter’s fire deep into the night
I want to be the flame that brings you morning light
I can burn for you, you set my soul on fire
I can burn for you, you are my one desire
A winter’s fire deep into the night
A burning flame until morning light
Burn me with you fire deep into the night
Burn me with your flame until I see morning light
How a bout a hot love poem on a scorching afternoon?

Wrestling the Devil
CE Uptain Jul 6
You’re wrestling the devil, fighting to be “the man”
When you wrestle the devil, its catch-as-catch can
It’s no holds barred, anything goes, a regular street fight
The world is watching the main event on Saturday night
It’s a death match; the winner takes it all
The match is scheduled for TV time, or one fall

The devil is tricky, he’s got friends outside the ring
Whips, chains, tables and chairs, that’s what they bring
Sorrows got you in the corner, headlock squeezing tight
Best do something quick, even if you have to bite
Pains have got you down, in the center of the mat
He’s got you trapped, like a big city rat
You need to break free, get out of his hold
If you don’t, you’ll be stuck, like the cheese and the mold
You’ve got to keep moving, you better have a plan
When you wrestle the devil, its catch-as-catch can

The crowd is roaring; it’s time to bust out your moves
Careful now, watch him Jim, look out for those hooves
You got him on the ropes, with help from some fan
When you wrestle the devil, it’s catch-as-catch can

Now it’s time the show is over, they called it a draw
He would have had you, except for that one little flaw
He didn’t know you had faith and truth on your side
When he came up against that, all his threats died
You wrestled the devil, now he knows you’re “the man”
When you wrestle the devil, its catch-as-catch can
For all of us who fight demons, fight to win.

How to read my Poetry
CE Uptain Jul 6
How to read my poetry:

Read it with your eyes, they will show you what I say
See it with your heart, it guides the way
Read it with your mind, keep it open to the truth
Use your understanding to verify the proof
Let it get in your dreams, read it while you sleep
Let it get in your soul and I hope it will keep

When you finish, read it once again
This time with feeling, like blowing in the wind
After that, quietly reflect on the story
Did you find it sweet and nice or ****** and gory

Try and remember your favorite line
Maybe the one about yours or the one about mine
Dry your eyes, blow your nose, get to the funny parts
The one about true love and two broken hearts
You can read them over and over; they never get old
Some of my best lines are as good as gold
I know you poets don't need reading instructions however, this one slipped out.

Down by the River
CE Uptain Jul 5
I need to take a rest down by the river,
        where the water runs deep
I want to lay on the bank,
let the waves put me to sleep
Down by the river,
let me ease my mind
In the sounds of the water,
my dreams I can find
Laying on the shoreline,
       peaceful in the sun
Waves washing over me,
       rinsing away sorrows
The sky in reflection,
       flashing like tomorrows
Down by the river,
       currents take me under
There in the water,
my soul can wonder
From one of my dreaming volumes. Hope you like it.

I’ve Found my Way
CE Uptain Jul 3
There's a cross on the hill, by the old whiskey still
It marks the place where I found you
I was drowning in sorrow, no need for tomorrow
I was lost in that old mountain dew
I remember the night by the whiskey's firelight
I was sitting, while my head tried to swim
Suddenly I saw it through the light in your eyes
I found a way to forget all this sin

That old mountain dew runs deep in my veins
Now the Lord is my savior and in glory he reins
That old mountain dew is finally through
I've found my way unto you

The times have been hard, and the way has been rough
With you in my Heart I don't have to hide
Thank you, dear Lord, for the strength that you give
And for the courage you give me inside

That old mountain dew runs deep in my veins
Now the Lord is my savior and in glory he reins
That old mountain dew is finally through
I've found my way unto you

Penned Another One
CE Uptain Jul 2
I’ve got plenty of ink, it’s my paper that’s shot
I can only write a few words, that’s all I got
Quick to write, slow to understand
I’ve got a fast mind and a slow hand

I had to scratch out some lines
I was trying to find some rhymes
But now it’s over, I think I’m done
Looks like I penned another one
I've been working on my Poet Lament volumes. This is out of #4. Hope you like it.
CE Uptain Jul 1
When I tell people I’m a poet, I say it’s my hidden talent
I hide my soul, page after page in a poet’s lament
Straight from the heart with passion too
I tell them my words I know are true

If they look closely, they can see me on a line
If they get between the lines, no telling what they’ll find
They might see me crazy, funny or see my depression
They may see that it’s just passive aggression

Sometimes when I share my words with them
They don’t know it’s my way of letting them in
To see me with my passion and heart
To share my pain from the start

I give some away in cheap picture frames
Memories of times, places and names
I hope that they read them with an open mind
I hope it takes them back to times left behind
Another lament. I guess maybe it's 38 more pages to go.

I’ve got a new pad and when I find the time
I’ll find my pen, fill this page with a rhyme
Now I can’t stop, my mind’s running wild
I’ll write every word and copy every file

Wow, this new pad has lots of room
I hope some new words will be coming soon
My mind is alert, write hand is ready
All I have to do is hold her steady

This page is done once I space it all out
I said what I wrote without even a shout
Only 39 more pages on this pad left to go
Until I’m on the cardboard where I write what I know

Time of Years
CE Uptain Jun 30
When we were young we loved so much
The plans we made and the time we lost
Together we learned to face our fears
It was just another time of years

We lived, we loved and we tried so hard
We watched our children grow
We made our place and we cried our tears
It was just another time of years

Now it’s time we are looking back
We both know where we’ve been
We stood strong beside all our piers
It’s just another time of years

Lock It Up
CE Uptain Jun 30
Find the one that fits your heart
Hold on tight so it’s all one part
Throw the key in the ocean blue
Lock it up with me and you

Find the way that’s good as gold
Use all your strength to gently hold
Always make the touch feel new
Lock it up with me and you

When we’re older and much too grey
Looking back on a better day
Everything I ever felt was true
Lock it up with me and you
No locksmith needed.

Dig A Little Deeper
CE Uptain Jun 30
I’m gonna have to dig a little deeper, to keep the world away
Dig a little deeper just to have a place to stay
I’m gonna dig a little deeper, down past the underground
Dig a little deeper until there is no light or any sound
I can’t live up here; there’s too much noise and light
I’ve got to get down, down where it’s dark as night
Don’t need no sunshine or blue skies turning grey
I just need to dig a little deeper so I’ll have some place to stay
Dig down deeper where the worms might crawl
Dig a little deeper so I don’t have so far to fall
Maybe if I dig deep enough I’ll come out the other side
Dig so deep that I won’t have a place to hide
say what you feel always.

FUCKING WORDS
CE Uptain Jun 29
******* WORDS,
A BUNCH OF ******* WORDS
THAT’S ALL I HAVE LEFT,
A BUNCH OF ******* WORDS

WRITE, ******* WRITE, WRITE,
WRITE SOME ******* WORDS
WRITE, WRITE, WRITE MY ******* WORDS

******* WORDS,
THEY’RE JUST ******* WORDS
WHY EVEN ******* BOTHER
THEY’RE JUST ******* WORDS

******* WORDS IN MY HEAD
******* WORDS ON MY PAGE
******* WORDS,
THEY’RE ONLY ******* WORDS
I guess I was mad at the paper.

Christmas Cookies
CE Uptain Jun 29
I see you in your day, maybe with a touch of grey
In the kitchen with little faces, smiling on Christmas day
Baking treats and making memories, passing on the love for free
I see you laughing as the flour spills out; all the children jump and shout:
“We love you Grandma, you’re such a mess”, and in your heart you feel blessed
Cookies made on Christmas day can only be made a certain way
A kitchen full of love, that’s a grandma’s secret recipe
They make great cookies, moments and memories
I wrote this one on the 4th of July and couple of years ago. It was inspired by my mother-in-law and is dedicated to all the past, present and future grandmothers. Merry Christmas.

Dreams of You
CE Uptain Jun 28
It’s just another lonely night, I'm sure I'll have a drink or two
I'll spend the night, killing off the hours, wishing I had you
It won't take long, I'll be crying, sad songs do me that way
I'll sing along the best I can, when it’s over, I'll have one more to play

I can't get enough to drink, all my songs are sad
I can't quit crying over all the good times we had
Remember when we were so young and free
How could we ever forget about you and me

When I've played my last sad song, I stagger off to bed
I will have you in my arms again, at least inside my head
The sheets are cold without you there, to keep me warm tonight
But I can dream about you now, until the morning light

Dreams are all I have, since I don't have you
Dreams are all I need, someday they'll come true
Dreams will get me through the night again
Dreams will keep me going until then
From my drinking poems volume 2. Bottoms up!

Read the Ones
CE Uptain Jun 28
One day I’ll end up dead
No more words in my head
Hope all my pens are out of ink
Left on pages when I tried to think

I’ll be dead and gone
Only my words to live on
No more rhymes or even prose
Cover my grave with a rose

Cry for me, pages wet with tears
I wrote you love poems, all my years
Read them when it’s late at night
Read the ones where I find the light
Wrote this one at a redlight a couple of weeks ago.
CE Uptain Jun 27
I like to write in the graveyard, I know people there
It’s nice and quiet, city sounds fill the air
A peaceful feeling comes over my mind
All of the memories my heart can find
I don’t see any ghost walking, I only hear voices
Some trying to say make better choices

I like writing in front of my grandfather’s stone
He makes me feel like I’m not alone
I look up, I see more stones of granite
All those names and dates, with no faces
Their memories are there, just in different places
When I finish and it’s time to leave
I’ll dry my eyes, stand quietly and grieve
As a poet, I take my notebook anywhere and find inspiration there too. Doesn't always work. Sometimes I come home with empty pages.

Drop, Flip and Flop
CE Uptain Jun 27
Come on baby, you know I need you so
Come on baby, you know I’m ready to go
Come on baby, you know I like it on top
Come on baby, let’s drop, flip and flop

Come on baby, you know I love you so
Come on baby, we can do it fast or slow
Come on baby, I’m never going to stop
Come on baby, let’s drop, flip and flop

Drop, flip and flop
Drop, flip and flop
Don’t ever want to stop

Come on baby, you know you want me so
Come on baby, you can put on a show
Come on baby, you can skip and hop
Come on baby, let’s drop, flip and flop

Come on baby, let’s do it once more
Come on baby, you make me lose my mind
Come on baby, you can make it pop
Come on baby, let’s drop, flip and flop

Drop, flip and flop
Drop, flip and flop
Don’t ever want to stop

Come on baby, you know I need some more
Come on baby, you know I like it on the floor
Come on baby, you know I like it a lot
Come on baby, you let’s drop, flip and flop

Come on baby, I like to drop, flip and flop
Come on baby, you know I never want to stop
Come on baby, I’ll let you get on top
Come on baby, let’s drop, flip and flop

Drop, flip and flop
Drop, flip and flop
Don’t ever want to stop
Though I would switch gears here

Love You in My Dreams
CE Uptain Jun 26
The many nights I’ve longed to hold you
All the times I could have told you
Now it seems those times have passed
It’s so hard to make the good times last
If I could only love you in my dreams

The days are long without your smile
It we could only talk for awhile
Maybe things would change for you and me
Better days are waiting to set us free
If I could only love you in my dreams

I remember when the nights were yours and mine
But now they’re cold and the stars no longer shine
No evening moons or morning stars in the sky
Just lonely nights with a lot of time to cry
If I could only love you in my dreams

I guess there’s always hope in each new day
Somehow, some day I will find the words to say
To tell you that I love you so, you’re always on my mind
To search myself to see if your love I can find
If I could only love you in my dreams
I'm just a dreamer.

Down to the Water
CE Uptain Jun 26
I went down to the water; I saw the waves washing by
They flowed and they swayed, in the ripples was the sky
Reflections; they danced, I saw the world in a dream
Every river flows to the ocean that started in a stream
No one sees what I see; the mind’s eye is each its own
No one feels what I’ve felt or knows the things I’ve known
Lost in the water I can find all I need
I can’t stop the water; only follow where it may lead
I went down to the water to see what I believe
I went down in the water and I’m never going to leave
Please enjoy

Each Word
CE Uptain Jun 26
The hand is slower than the spoken word
I write so slow, I’m barely heard
Each word is a careful choice
Each word my only voice

My soul in words I’ve written down
Quietly I rage without a sound
Baring ******* my pen to feel
What’s on the page, what is real
Any poets agree?
