In a tug of war,
between confidence and doubt
Both disqualified.

Shady businesses
Like the umbrella salesman
Cover their assets

The cat and the bird
Mockingbird dive bombs the cat
Flurry of feathers.

To not feel useful
It's a fact of life for some.
Old and in the way.
Life and laughter for the young.
Singing the songs left unsung.

Dreams of summers past
Beach day, kids in tow
A smile, a laugh, your face aglow
Fast forward to now
You barely glance my way
Silent dinners are normal
How did we get this way
Why drag this out
It gets harder each day
We scream, we shout
Yet for us I still pray.

Just to get a "like"
People will risk life and limb
Famous for being famous
Not just another her or him
