 Jul 2020 Johnny's Brother
M
Time has fed a burning fire with dying embers.
A dwindling light in the winter wind, flickering
As the night sought to put it out but could not,
Resisted death and not once lost its light.

Still I pitied it. A candle hanging by a thread,
Waging quarrels with the wind, found no solace
In my cupped hands. The cold and bitter tears
Of these winter nights pelted its withering spirit.
Written some day last June 2019.
I've had some of the greatest learnings of life from primarily 3 sources-
Women... Children... Nature

Women have taught me to be compassionate and resilient(among many other countless things)
Children have taught me to see beauty in ugliness..and not try and find meaning or sense in everything
Nature has taught me to strike that balance between serenity and rage

Books and the internet come a distant second.....
Today I saw a giant tub of whipped cream
Spilled across the morning sky.
You may call them clouds, I call them cream.

Today I saw a tiny hummingbird
Taking very careful inventory
Of the blossoms on a tree.

Today I saw two squadrons
Of black birds on a secret mission
Across the dawning sky.

Today I saw the waxing moon
Refusing to call it a night
By lurking on the horizon.

Today I saw me looking up
To marvel at the gifts I’m given
For merely raising up my eyes.

To look is not always to see.
