My life is a wire
Forced upon me
Not by choice
Not by desire
But by obsolescence
Of former technology
No longer viable
No longer available
And yet it too
Had its own lifespan
Before the next technological epiphany
Superseded it –
Out with the old – in with the new
Armageddon

And is my life better?
Categorically no!

Simple became complex
Reliable became subject
To the whims of technology
The internet’s slow today
The program’s out of date
The compatibility declined
The system’s down
Functionality at a standstill
Armageddon

Go wireless
Go Bluetooth
Go further down
The layers of Hell
The layers of the Inferno
The labyrinth
Of keeping up
With the newest of the new
Keeping up with the Joneses
No longer humans
Keeping up with Microsoft or Apple

Pre-order
Post-order
Out of order

Spending money
On the gift that keeps giving
In the name of technology
The rich get richer
And everyone else poorer
Waiting in line
Camping on the sidewalk
All for the gadgets
All for the glory
Of holding the latest update

As I suffer
Their hypocrisy
Their purported need
To make the world better
Faster
Easier
Save the trees
Repair climate change
More and more technology
Force it on us
Like the slaves
Forced on the ships
Out of Africa

No more human interaction
Text me…
No more time
Social media…
Games
Addiction to technology

After years of torment
Emotional agony and
Loneliness
She’s Going Home
Undreamt of joy
Reveals itself
As the love
She never thought
Would exist for her
Has taken hold
Of her life
A love so deep
So strong
That it could
Only have been
Sent to her
Now she knows that
She is reborn
And soon they will be
Together
One heart and one soul
Joined for eternity
By love
She is
Going Home

Wind blowing the trees –
Waiting

Rain pelting the roofs –
Waiting

Warnings – fear – panic –
Waiting

False alarms and near death situations –
Waiting

Tree limbs, branches and twigs
Scatter the lawn now
Tearing asunder
A long standing dream

Follow the plan – follow the leader
Running to safety or so they believe
Storing up water – storing up food-stuffs
Counting the days they’ll all do without

Fixing the time, it can’t last forever
Praying they’ll all see the very next dawn
Watching the wind – moments of calmness
Gusts overtaking those moments of ease

Clouds overhead as dark as the night now
Following shadows cast off on their own
Ev’ryday fears amplified grandly
Leaving all thought and reason behind

Lightning and thunder – power lines bursting
Freezing the time in a moment of light
Tracing the tempest with photograph mem’ry
Timelines projecting the hurricane path

Watching the day creeping by slowly
Hours of watching and waiting to come
Watching a squirrel scamper up tree limbs
Looking for shelter from the eye of the storm

Autumn brings rebirth
The closing out of summer
And the renewal of the cycle
Signifying a time of regeneration
With cool, crisp golden mornings

Faster time paces
As the days grow slightly shorter
And momentum challenges
The fledgling generation
To rekindle itself anew

No more a time of consumption
Or empty days of dreary longing
But a momentary highlight
That expunges the emblematic
And erases the scars of lassitude
And lethargic days that summer brings

The bounty of fall’s beginnings
Fills trees with yellow splendor
And refocuses the thirst that redefines
The topography of the soul

No longer the empty moments
Of fantasies forgotten
That sorrows never cling to
And time alone can’t quell

Only the rebirth of autumn
As the harvesting of last year
Cleanses fields and forests
Making way for new born buds
That reveal through empty spaces
Left by falling embers
Of things that are best forgotten
And glories yet to come

She rests her head
On her pillow
He watches her sleep
Contentment now has found them
After turmoil and sorrow
So long did they weep

Their life abounds in glory
As husband and as wife
Their mutual devotion
No longer any strife

From this day on
Their path is clear
Their future without doubt
Their love alone
Engraved in stone
Together as one
They’ve just begun
A rainbow ties their knot
Marriage vows
Made in the clouds
To last a lifetime
And beyond

Each second of each day
Safe and warm
They ride out any storm
Of days gone by
They laugh not cry
Holding hands
Like marriage bands

Forever and a day
They fear no more
They found the shore
Alive with life
As man and wife
Pronounced by God
Two peas in a pod
To live today
Their future shining bright
To have and hold
Remaining bold
They’ll guard each other’s flight
Like sprouting wings
Their future brings
Their essence being right
Their heart and soul
As one are whole
No more to care
They take the dare
To win the prize
They realize
The second hand
Is a golden band
That guards them
Through the night

They sleep in peace
With clouds as sheets
And when they wake
As dawn will break
And so they bring
On angel’s wing
Perfection to their life

Alone no more
Happiness galore
They’ll travel through life
On a magic carpet ride
A genii’s wish
Not to make them rich
But to keep their hearts alive
To love each other
Like bread and butter

Each second of each day
To have and to hold
As their lives unfold
And happy ever after
Is the law of the day

And when they sleep
Their lives complete
They hold each other tight
Their world aglow
Their path will show
Directions for their flight
Through thick and thin
They both will win
Their love so rare
Their home so fair
Their essence in the night

And with each new dawn
They travel on and on
From here to there
And everywhere
They live and breathe
And always believe
Their love was made by fate
Destiny brought she to thee

Together forever
Whatever the weather
Their story’s a treasure
Worth more than
King Midas’s gold
Of how two people
Can fly higher than the steeple
Their love story
The greatest ever told

Until the day
I count the days
Waiting for the day
To Come

Dizzy
Going in circles
Our path ahead
Begun

Lonely empty
Time to ****
Hours in a row
Minutes, seconds
Going slow
Miles ahead to go

Feasts and happy endings
Festivals delight
Autumn leaves and day trips
Our life ahead is bright

Happy days
Uncharted days
Footprints in the snow
Leading toward tomorrow
Only love we’ll know

When love
Transcends time, distance and space
And takes hold of two people
Brought together by destiny and fate
The universe is renewed

Golden threads
Stitch the planets into a ring
And Saturn gives up its rings
As baguettes to surround the diamond
That once was the sun

And then
The moons and the stars
Shine down on the love
Like a rainbow of light
Catching moonbeams in its path
In a spiral of sparkles
Like fireworks on the Fourth of July

When love
Is so strong that it can
Overcome all obstacles
And join two people
Like an umbilical chord
Gives life to a baby
And each
Nurtures the other
With their hearts and their souls
As love unites them
For eternity

When love
Is so strong that the past disappears
And only the future remains
To be seen among the stars and the planets
In a universe of their own
