Say Less

If I had the words,
Then I wouldn't have to write
You'd look at me and hear a song, instead

The notes are what you'd learn
The rhythm, what you'd feel
A signal flare, illuminating overhead

In kind, we'd bond
Words, lost from you as well
Looking warmly, eyes held in hold

In truth, our smiles would stretch miles,
While in the end,
Our stories remain untold

She had that
octopus smile,
always reaching for
something.
I was her small
fish; her handmaid.
I lived in her nebulous
world for far too long.
Inky confusion...

There's a reason for
your treason, said the
old man to the shark,
but Hem forgot, a beast
is a beast, they do
beastly things.
We all have to eat.

I'm done being the
meal.
It's your Ocean,
I'm just trying to
swim in it.

You're an oyster,
and I want your
pearl,
but I won't drown
for it.

O' Salty tear, a mere clear drop you are
You've emerged for a million different reasons
many of which only the shedder knows
for you've emerged in all seasons.

The season of sadness or reason of joy
The tears of grief and the tears of joy
You and your unalloyed saline taste
Thou art' but an emotional waste.

O' Salty tear each time you drop into oblivion
why not vanish away with your shedder's grief?
I tell you O' tear if you take my opinion
oughtn't you grant your shedder full relief?

Ah, but thou seem a ceaseless ocean in reserve and store
No one can be sure, he'll cry no more
When you trickle down those sad upturned lips
we know destiny perhaps made those painful slips!

You are the raindrops of a grief-clouded heart
You do emerge when two lovers have to part

Help your shedder turn over a new leaf
so you're associated less with grief.

I've watched many a jilted lover
weep all alone by the seaside so sorrowfully
and watched tears glide down noses or pince-nez
as their salty tears merged with the salty sea.

O' Salty tear but it's time you learnt to wash away
all and any melancholy from your shedder's heart
and be such a buddy who never wishes to meet again
the tearful shedder from whom you depart

badwords
We tried to part ways
Neither a place to go
The victims of our frays
Bound in familiar woe

The hurt we each seek
Together, alone
The acid we speak
This caustic home

A prison, a cell
The confines of hate
A resulting hell
To escape a fate

They claw my heels
My attempts to escape
They broker deals
I must abdicate
This was written as an allegory for trying to overcome heartache, trauma, depression and suffering et al while still having to wake up to it every day.

Living with mental illness is like living with a partner you want to leave but, the situation does not allow it. I attempt to convey that allegory in 'Living With the Ex'. The idea came from my immediate experience of being in a situation where I was effectively stuck with a partner I no longer wanted to live with while dealing with managing my own depression and how being forced to live with someone I didn't want to affected my own mental health

Never did I intend
To depend
So heavily on this pen
And the hand it was able to lend
But if I didn't spend
The time I did attend
Like if I only spent the weekend
Workin' on me,
I wouldn't have been able to defend my heart
Or fend off the dark
Because I wouldn't have been able to comprehend
The in-between
Of the beginning and the end
