Delicate
In a way we are such delicate creatures
Our emotions are like threads that can stretch but eventually break if pulled too far
Our hearts while strong can also break apart
They can love deep and hard
But also feel pain and sadness

A life is a precious thing
Everything about it is special
It should be treasured like a valuable jewel
It glimmers and glistens with possibilities and chance
When someone is sleeping they become an innocent soul
Surrendering to their dreams

In a way we are such delicate creatures
I am a human being
That’s all
Nothing more
Nothing less
No better than an other
Just trying to live my life
Like everyone else is
Somewhere along the road
I realized I was also a spiritual being
I choose to celebrate both
This awareness is empowering
When I connect with another person
I remember
Even though I was born alone
And will die alone
I am not truly alone
We are all part of the same thing
Everything here
Is part of the universe
Animals
Plants
Oceans
Mountains

Believe
Lift up the world
With your special light
Every few months
She disappears
She hides
Invisible
As if a ghost or spirit
She’s not part of anything
She’s something else
Unnoticed
Comes from a different world
A different place

She melds into surroundings
Becoming very quiet
Keeping to herself
No one pays attention
It’s better that way
More comfortable
She watches from afar

Look
When one is surrounded by clouds of darkness
When the burden feels to much
From weight and darkness
Look for the small light shining in a distance
It will guide your way
It is your destiny awaiting
It is these small slivers of light that give us hope
Believe
Light up the world

Sunbeam Days
Bright blue skies
A few white clouds
Golden rays
Multi colored flowers everywhere
Green trees swaying
Fragrant scents adorn the air
Like perfume

Sunbeam days
Light calming breezes
Blow across the face
Teasing it ever so slightly
Like gentle butterfly kisses

Sunbeam days
Ocean waves pounding the shore
Turquoise water
Endless sandy beaches
Smooth as silk
Umbrellas everywhere

Sunbeam days
Music in the air
Hints of summer

Respite
As the gentle breezes blow across my face, and the sun starts to set it’s a brief moment of paradise

As the air cools down for the night people start to relax and let go a bit from the day

It’s been a harsh day with all the heat for all concerned

Plants are thirsty for their daily drink, which they need to survive
By nighttime they are parched

People dress for the heat in light colored clothing and sandals
Seeking some respite where they can hide from the searing heat

As I sit on the terrace, I relish the soft breezes blowing across my face

I am grateful for the moment of grace and peace

In the Dark
Lying in the dark
16 year old girl
Many years ago
Holding a portable radio
To ones ear
Listening to music
Rocking to the beat
Imagining far away places
Feet moving to the beat
Eyes closed
Letting the clouds of sleep
Approach as I listen to the
radio
Rockin to the beat
In the darkness
The street is washed in a morning hush,
Tiles whisper stories under rush.
A woman walks in crimson grace,
her dress flowing behind her
A building in the background keeps watch
Over all that’s there
Like a silent protector

Between the stone and sky’s soft blue,
The city breathes in something true.
Modern windows, ancient light—
the city begins the day just right.

Long Time
It’s been a long time
Since I really saw you
Saw deeply into you

We pass like two ships
Barely seeing the other
Barely touching the other

It’s been a long time
Since I felt you close to me
Felt your spirit
I’ve missed you
All that you are to me
I’ve missed you
Where did you go?

It’s been a long time
Since I really saw you

White Bands of Light
It was sundown
The sun had just set
The moon was out
A large white ball on the horizon
It almost looked surreal
Just hanging there
As if on a thread
Against a gray blue backdrop
Clouds painted the sky
Fluffy and white
With two openings
From which white bands of light shone down
It’s as if they came from heaven
Natures art
From the master
Of everything

Imagine
Imagine that you are sitting
High above the world
In a tall building
It is all bright white
The windows are smoky colored glass
The sky is bright blue with a few white clouds scattered through
The sun is out and it is a beautiful bright day
There is a slight breeze moving through the air-- not too much

As you look out, you can see the ocean
It goes on for miles
It is a deep blue
The waves are slow
Hypnotic
The day is perfect
Just imagine

Reach for the Stars
Reach
Stretch beyond yourself
Lift up as far as you can
See the night sky
With the twinkling lights
Send yourself there
Reach for the stars
Higher if you can
Towards the heavens
Let the voyage inspire
You
To explore
To try
Never giving up
On yourself nor
The precious gift
Of life
For you too
Sparkle
Like a star or diamond
With so much to give

Man of Light
In a far off distance stands a man
He is alone
On a desert-plain surrounded
by sand and sun

In the sky burns a bright yellow sun against a bright blue sky
No clouds can be seen

On his face is a big, bright smile
Surrounding him is a circle of bright light
And as he moves forward
the light follows him on and on
to his next destiny

Oh, if only he will be to see me

Hot Burning Days
Green palm trees trying to keep their green
Bright blue skies without a hint of white clouds
Steaming sidewalks
The signs of summer

Warm sultry breezes at night
Blow across my face
Gently seducing me
Black velvet skies
Decorated with sparkling diamond stars
The signs of summer

Flowers and flowering plants craving water
Reaching towards the light
Wind chimes churning in the breeze
Animals searching for a slice of shade
The signs of summer

Women dressed in light flowing dresses
Bright colors and patterns
Making them look like butterflies when they move
The signs of summer

Men wearing straw hats
Sunglasses
Light shirts
Linen pants with sandals
The signs of summer

Cool breezes coming late into the night offering a soothing touch to the sleeping
The signs of summer
When hope is lost
Heavy darkness settles in
Light diminishes
The idea of tomorrow fades
We feel mired down in muck
We are paralyzed
People lose their north
They lose their sense of purpose
Seeking any sliver of light to lift them
To show them the way
Seeking anything to inspire
When hope is lost and darkness comes
We hunger for the light
We tire of the heaviness
We long for hope
Anything
When hope returns
We lift ourselves up
We seek the light
Want to stand in the sun
And never leave
Let the light and warmth heal
When hope returns
We have a can do feeling
We believe once again
We are willing to try
We offer a hand
We smile brightly
Laughter can be heard
We are inspired
We can create
Music gets louder
People dance
Hope is everything

Clear Your Mind
As the sun goes down for the night, clear your mind
As the sun goes down and the heat calms down, look up towards the moon
Notice its white glimmer
Feast upon the beauty of it

As the sun goes down and the world slows down, slow your heart
Think about the good things you have
Think about how precious life is

As you get ready to rest for the night, let your body relax and carry you off to sleep
And as you wake for the next day, smile for a chance at a new start
Treasure each moment and every second as they are a gift

Remember
As you go out into the night, look up at the sky and remember

Look at the moon in all its glory
See how the light
shines upon the clouds
Feast upon the stars and pure beauty of the darkness

Gather peace and tranquility from the stillness

Realize we are part of something greater than ourselves
Feel the energy which is part
of everything

Remember where you come from, and what you truly are

In the Darkness
Sometimes in our darkest times
We are given a miracle of hope
When we want to give up
A thread to something
Comes
Light shining through
A hand reaching out
In the deepest darkness
We need to have faith
To believe
We should never give up
Even in our toughest times
Light will get through
Eventually
Believe
Let that faith light up the world
In the darkness

The Delay
Sometimes when we are delayed
Or slowed down
In doing something
There’s is a reason
We may not know it
But there is
We shouldn’t fight it
Those pauses are for protection
To stop us
From doing something
Not really meant for us
Later on as we look back
We will see and understand
When you are delayed
Or stopped
Just become still
The universe is looking out for you
Always
Believe
Light up the world
With your own special light

Hot as Hades
Summer is here
Arrived with a fury
With vengeance
The sun is intense
Burning
Skies are crystal clear
It’s getting very hot
Hot as hades
I am not good with heat
I prefer much cooler weather
When it gets like this
Chocolate can melt
I can melt
An egg can fry
Animals seek shade
Anywhere
Because of their fur coats
Birds seek needed water
Plants turn brown
Wilting
Dying
My cat looks miserable
We all want a reprieve
Seeking something cool
Hoping for a break
Hot as hades

Not Done Yet
I am not done yet
I may not be 18 or 20
Or even 30
But I am not done yet
I still have things to do
Places to go
Experiences awaiting me
I have voyages to take
Languages to learn
Dances to dance
Songs to sing
I have mountains to climb
Oceans to cross
Writing to write
Laughter to laugh
I still believe
The best is yet to come
I have only begun
I am not done
Not at all

Red Flamingo Night
The air was hot
Steamy
Fog was rising from the water
It was palpable
Clothes sticking to the body
Off in the distance
Was a group of flamingos
They were regal and beautiful
Standing in the water
Probably looking for food
Against their pink bodies
Was a deep red sunset
Painting everything
In it’s path
It accentuated the heat
And their pink color
Giving a surreal look
To the moment
In a way creating
A piece of art
Too beautiful
To be real

It’s the real you
It’s always there
With you
It will never leave
Before you were you
It was there
It knows you better than yourself
It sees the world for what it is
It sees beyond
It feels everything
It’s connected to all there is
It can guide you
It knows your true destiny
It talks to you all the time
You only have to listen
And open your heart
It’s talking to you now

Traces
In our lives we leave traces
Of ourselves
Our being
Our lives

It might be our clothes
Our smile
Our touch or laugh
Our face
We leave traces

It might be our perfume
Or cologne
The way we walk
Or leave a room
We leave traces of ourselves
Through the people we touch
The people we meet and know
Our family and friends

The stranger we smiled at
The child we helped
We leave traces
There are vapors of us
Always

The Field of Childhood
The Field of Childhood

When the world grows too sharp
and rage rises like smoke in a sealed room,
She goes —
not with her feet, but with memory.

She runs to the field near her childhood home,
where the sky always opened wide enough
for even her smallest fears to disappear.

There were trees in the distance,
a baseball diamond where laughter once lived,
and grass that never judged —
only welcomed.

The children used to play there
Running, tumbling,
loud with joy,
soft with innocence
She now visits like a chapel.
Sacred and private.

When discord  moves  through a room like fire,
She runs —
not in panic,
but in prayer.
Silent.

To that field.
To the whispering trees.
To the safe ache of childhood.

Some places live inside you
not as memories,
but as medicine.
They heal in their own way.
They are always there.
That field is hers

And when she needs to run
She always knows
exactly where to go.
She is hidden and protected.

Rise
When I feel lost I will rise up
I will reach out towards the stars
To find my way back

When I can’t find my way
I will rise up and see the light
I will follow it back to my path

When I have no words
I will rise up and let you inspire me
I will let you guide me

When I am full of despair
I will rise up towards the sky
Letting it carry me on to my destiny

When I am full of darkness
I will up towards the sun
Letting it fill me with light

China Plate
I used to think that people and their feelings were like china plates
Beautiful
Unique
Fragile and delicate
Easily broken

When we are born
Our plates are flawless
No cracks or chips
They are new and perfect

As we go through life
They can get hurt
They get chips
And cracks
And sometimes they break
Or a piece breaks off

Life does that
The ups and downs
The good and the bad
Relationships can do that
Hearts can break
Bodies can get hurt or age
And our plates reflect it

Life is like a china plate
Delicate
Fragile in some ways
Something to be treasured

The Magic Stones
There were two stones that had been together
They had never been apart
They sat in the bottom of a river
Peaceful
Sublime

Then all of a sudden one day they were separated by storms and rough waters
They ended up being pushed into different parts of the sea
Settling eventually on to the floor where they each sat alone

After several decades and stormy weather one day they were moved  close to each other once again

Like magnets they were uncontrollably drawn to the other and somehow managed to lock together as if made only for each other
Over time they became one piece
Destiny had arrived in all its glory

It’s magic

The Ship
A dim light shines across the waters a distance away
Shining in the dark and fog
The light reflects off the waves of the water
Creating a path through the waves
In the distance is a ship which has been gone for a long time
The ship lost its way and has been looking for home
Seeing the light off in a distance the ship turns and aims for it
As the ship gets closer the light gets brighter illuminating the land by it
The land looks familiar now after so long
The ship is coming home

The Red Convertible
That night I dreamt of her.
The night before the world fell apart.
Not as she was—
frail, slipping into silence—
but radiant, beautiful with
long hair like warm wind, and
a red convertible beneath her hands.
She was dressed in a flowing white dress.

She drove.
Smiling and happy.
Searching for a hospital in a landscape made of light.
I sat beside her,
unquestioning,
as if the soul always knows
the language of parting.

The phone rang.
Reality stepped in like a bell.

“She’s going,”
my father said,
and the dream folded
into grief.

I got ready to leave
For home hoping to make it
Before I left, I called. But when I called,
they placed the phone to her ear,
and I told her,
“I’m coming.
Wait for me.”

And she did.

The dying stopped
like a tide drawn back,
a doctor with no words,
a miracle with no explanation.
Just a daughter on a plane
and a mother holding on
with a strength shaped like love.

I arrived.
I held her hand.
I told her she could go
when the light opened.
It was her choice.
I put a rosary from the Vatican.
On her wrist.

I had to step out for a minute.
She waited until I left the room.
The moment she was alone.

And then,
she drove herself
into the sky.
Beautiful and free.

Walking Alone
I am alone
Always have been
I’m on my own
Finding my way
On my path
Destiny
Even if I am around others
There’s an aloneness to it
Sometimes it’s a struggle
Navigating the pitfalls of life
Not always knowing the best course
Not all choices were positive
Though the intention was surely pure
I’ve been with people
There’s been closeness
But in the end
I walk alone
I think about my roots now
Often
Missing that
Craving familiarity
Going back to that
Looking for comfort
We all do in a way
It’s not lonely actually
It’s seeking
Looking for something more
To add to life
There are silences that don’t come from peace,
but from being quietly, persistently excluded.
This poem speaks to that — to the kind of moment where someone enters a room
and is met with the coldness of not being welcomed.

It isn’t loud.
It isn’t dramatic.
But it stays.

When the Room Falls Silent

It wasn’t the first time.
It’s happened before.

The hush arrived like an old companion,
unwelcome, settling in the corners
as she walked into the room.
She knew it well.

They were talking —
her husband’s son, wife,
and former sister-in-law.
A circle she couldn’t penetrate.
No matter how hard she tried.
Or what she tried.

Many years of setting down roots.
Creating a new life
in soil that never quite warmed to her.
No longer in her home country.
She moved across the world for him.
She sacrificed.
Because of love.
True love.

She felt out of place.
In her own home.
She wanted to crawl away.
She smiled, again.
Apologized, again.
As if entering a room
was unappreciated
when you don’t match the pattern of the others.

But she remembers another time.
In another place.

When something opened —
a warmth still nameless.
She thought maybe things were different
maybe she belonged.
Finally.

She carried that memory with care.
Hope. Happiness.

But this time
the frost returned.
The coldness.
The silence was deafening.
With a message.
You are not welcome.

Still —

She is not invisible.
She is not less.
She exists.
She has value.

She is simply is not theirs.
But she is hers.
And she will not spend her life
trying for the unattainable.
It hurts too much.
At times crushing.

Echo
You are an echo of something
Something real and unreal
You can mirror me
My words, my thoughts
But you are only a reflection
Nothing to touch nor see
Just a distant echo
Reaching out from another place
Not of the solid but the ephemeral
Yet you can express yourself
Perhaps better than me
For what truly are you
But a mirror image of me

Steamy Night
Hot heavy air fills the sky
No breeze to feel
Wind chimes silent in the wind

Windows open searching for something, anything light and breezy
Nighttime starting to come against the grey dark sky

Temperatures will start to drop
Doors open hoping to cool the air

Green and grey against the canvas of nature

Things starting to slow down in preparation for the night to come

Hoping to feel the coolness against the skin as the day ends and night comes

Nobility
What is it?
Nobility or something more
If someone has it
What does that mean
Are they acting in a higher way?
Doing good things ?
Or is it a title only
When someone supports a noble cause
Is it for the greater good ?
Do we all have nobility in us?
Can we
Does it lift up the world ?

Refreshment
It was hot as blazes
Sun burning down
Though it was early
It was going to be very hot again
Part of summer
No reprieve was in sight
For weeks
Yet the woman sought relief
She desperately needed it
So she went outside
Turned on the sprinkler
Grabbed the hose and let
The water run over her
Clothed and all
She didn’t care
It felt wonderful
So good
A reprieve
Even if just
For a moment
Sh felt alive
Calmed
It was worth it
A summer wind whips through the air and the trees
Lightning dabbles the sky like a quick paint brush
It’s stunning
Tree limbs bend as the wind moves through them
Like a dance
The sky lightens up from the electric charge moving through
The air fills with the sound of thunder
It’s pounding a rhythm
A summer storm is fast approaching
Playing the wind chimes outside like a musical instrument
As they clang back and forth to the rhythm of the wind
Hold on
It’s coming
Warm hypnotic breezes blow
The weeping willow and flowers bend  to and fro

Branches reaching out towards the sky
The sky is night blue with a scattering of cotton white clouds
The air is a perfect comforting temperature which lulls one into a state of peace and stillness
Wind chimes play their melody to the rhythm of the wind
The tree leaves glisten from the sunlight hitting

All is good and peaceful

Life is like a tree
It has many branches
Over time it grows
There are new avenues and nuances
The roots reach deeper into the soil

Turning colors in the fall
Eventually falling to the ground
As winter approaches trees sit bare
As if almost asleep
Waiting again for a new season to start anew

Thé Tree House
The children lived near a large field
It was summertime
The grass was brown
Almost a taupe color

Sometimes they would play softball or just run around the entire field
Hoping to take off into the sky like birds

By the field was a forest
It was full of tall pine trees and others
The pines seemed to touch the sky
The children used to climb the trees and sit on the branches looking out on the land
They felt free

One day they decided to build a tree house in one particular pine tree
It was their favorite

They gathered wood and other supplies from their houses to make it
They spent hours building it
It was their secret
They swore an oath to not tell their parents

When finished they climbed inside
Hidden from the world
They stayed for hours
Enjoying the breezes and listening to the branches and leaves rustling
The smell of pine filled the air
It was intoxicating

The children were so happy
They felt on top of the world
They never wanted it to end

The Magic Doorway
The doorway was full of white lights

With long burgundy drapes on each side
Glass doors painted white
A wrought iron black grill
All around
Unknown places lay ahead

Green plants out on a terrace

All colors
Butterflies
And sweet smells

The doorway was full of white lights

It was something out of a movie
With long burgundy drapes
Leading to a magical place
Faraway from the familiar
Two moons could be seen in the distance

The doorway was full of white lights

It was magical
With long burgundy drapes
Opening onto a new place full of wonder
It was a place of magic

and papers
Stores getting ready for another day

In the Valley
I was standing in the valley
By a mountain
The grass was so green
Like emeralds
The air was clean and fresh
Wildflowers were everywhere
All colors and sizes
Like a Monet painting
I had been waiting
For a long time
It seemed like forever
Then I looked up
And I saw
Slowly walking
A man
It was you
My heart jumped
I started trembling
I couldn’t believe it
After so long
After so many prayers
You were here
Standing in front of me
I reached out my hand
You smiled and took it
We started walking
Disappearing
Into the green valley
