Wild West
Zoe Mae Oct 2021
Dusty corsets keep busy while
mustache men
play Russian roulette.

The room reeks of gunpowder,
desperation, and sweat.

Upstairs are castaway women.
Don't pay them any mind.

Unless you'd like to debase the prettiest victim.
That'll cost you a dime.

Genghis Khan
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
A tower of petals is not built to last,
but a Tower of Pizza can

The Statue of Liberty symbolizes just that
Yet she doesn't even have a free hand

The colloseunms were where the masses would go
To watch the most unholy acts unfold just for show

Churches were built to help the poor and the lame
But they were also quite fond of sentencing women to flames

The great Wall of China can still be seen from space
But it couldn't even keep Genghis Khan out of the place!

The Yin Dynasty should be really be red in the face

And so should the whole human race
A bit of fun. It actually took time and creativity.

Home
Zoe Mae Aug 2021
Suddenly out of nothing there was a big bang
And a vacuum gave birth to a planet of flames
She finally cooled down after millions of years
Her rage turned to sorrow and inconsolable tears
She wept so much water covered the land
She nearly drowned herself before life even began
The rest we all know, or have beliefs of our own
How this rock went from nothing, to water, to home

Cooties
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
Ever closer your cooties approach my fabric, multiplying like maggots.

Can I even muster the courage
to peek under the sheets?

Nope.

Too afraid of what I'll see...
Perhaps a mushroom shaped like me?

Nowadays your dead skin cells are my pillow.

Funny.

You're warmer dead than alive,
and your cooties still thrive.

The next Poe
Zoe Mae Jan 2022
What if the best poem ever written has never been read
The best soliloquy in history never once said
What if the best song ever played had never been danced to
Simply because we weren't given the chance to
Save every draft and treasure your trash
One day they may be discerned from the ash
You could be the next Emily, I the next Poe
And like most famished artists
we'll never know

I once believed in magic.
Zoe Mae Oct 2021
As a kid I believed the moon was made of cheese.
With age I learned it's just a frigid rock.
As a child I remember gazing at stars, whispering please.
As though the universe could really hear me talk.
Rainbows were pure magic.
Each one held a *** of gold.
Growing up is inherently tragic.
Splendor becomes same old same old.

Vulnerable
Zoe Mae Jul 2021
He loves her so much more than she loves him
It's terrifying
He's vulnerable now
Stripped to the bone
He's never felt this alone
She looks at him with apathy
His heart gets yanked around
He'd do anything to make her happy
But she's always looking down
Can't look him square in the eye
Can't set him free, even if she tried
He's so vulnerable now
Immersed in her hair, her scent, her eyes
She can never set him free
Even if she tries

So glad I found you babe
Had me on a wild goose chase
Laying rotten egg after rotten egg
****** yolk streaming down your scrawny legs

So glad I have you babe
Had me on a golden goose chase
Laying charcoal and pyrite eggs
Everytime you spread your legs
Now yolk is streaming down your face
Yet it's me who's the disgrace

Kindness Backfires
Zoe Mae Sep 2021
Ever wonder who's on the other end of these poems
Are they really human? Possibly clones?
Maybe a bunch of chimps in a dank room typing away
And after months of randomness, they conjure something clever to say
Some people are probably just busy, others insecure
That's one weakness every poet can relate to, I'm sure
But for a bunch of lonely souls, just longing to feel connected
It's amazing how many times I've reached out, only to be rejected
This place, this space, some people just seem so hollow
And you wonder to yourself,
do I even want to be followed?

Is my car really that good on gas?
I mean think about it...
And, what's that spltoch on the ceiling that's been here since I moved in a decade ago, and is now starting to look like a gigantic two-headed cherub? What is that brownish stain actually made of?
I mean think about it...
And, is Philip Michael Thomas still alive?
I mean think about it...

Pretty things fare well
Everyone loves pretty things
Pretty flowers, pretty houses, pretty faces
We don't visit ugly places
The under belly, the blood, the snot
Perhaps ugly things are best forgot
Pretty, it fades if we see it each day
Fresh eyes wouldn't focus on the magnitude of decay
But the slight beauty that grows around
Well, that would be found right away

Long Term Care
Zoe Mae Apr 20
You still look like you, minus the fire
With your non-skid socks
Arms attached to barb wires

A robe drenched in dead skin
Eyes sunkin in
Slept for a year, but still tired

When you speak, it's eratic
Others hear it as static
I always know what you mean

You long to go home
Where you weren't so alone
But it's disappeared it would seem

For now, they still visit
But they'll drift and won't miss it
As it's all too depressing to see

You will disappear
No one gets better here
The next stop is eternity

So we find ourselves here again
Lost for words and looking in
Never quite knowing our place
Not recognizing our own face

I see the razor on the glass
I don't even have to ask
Do you think that it will numb the pain
Or maybe somewhat ease the strain

They placed the apple on your head
Sure their aim had seen better days
Yeah we'll be happy once we're dead
But still it could take years...

Is this where we thought we'd be?
Hating you and loathing me
I see the needle on the floor
I don't question anymore

I wish I could have known my fate
Way before it was too late
Not sure I'd done a thing to change
Seems our lives were pre-arranged

They placed the apple on your head
Sure their aim had seen better days
They'll make us famous once we're dead
But still it could take years...
Wrote this when I was an active addict. No one likes it but it's one of my favorites. Most of my poems are songs.

Why must I always think in verse?
Is it a talent?
More like a curse
All day long songs pour through my head
But before they hit paper, they're usually dead

It doesn't take more than a couple of lines to know you've been defeated

The truth is you don't want to
The truth is if you looked closely

The truth is you don't have to
The truth is if you listened
You'd hear nothing but dissent

I'm faking it but you won't notice
The truth is you never do
The truth is if you paid attention
You'd see my feelings are quite spent

I'm unhappy but you can't sense it
The truth is it wouldn't suit you
The truth is if you really cared for me
You would see my discontent
