Ethereal Glow
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
Your are mine sweet friend
And only mine to the bitter end

I have loved you all my days
Through darkness and hazy days

I have loved you with all my heart
Till the end, from the very start

I have loved you with all my soul
Once I hooked you, i vowed never to let you go

I have loved you with all the blood in my veins
At times your love is the only thing, that's kept me sane

I have loved you from the tip of my head to my toes
The warmth of your touch, gives me an ethereal glow

I have loved you as well as anyone could do
I did all of that and I did it for you

I would not have had it any other way
I'm glad your my lover, my husband and friend
Together forever until the very end
My husband and I are married 36 years on Tuesday, couldn't imagine loving anyone else.

Dark Rose of England
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
Oh Dark Rose of England, your not the pale colour you usually find in the English countryside.

Oh Dark Rose of England, your beauty is more than just your colour, you display such beauty and elegance, your the envy of all other flowers

Your petals are dark red the colour of blood, I wonder what it is you feed upon.

Are you fed from below by the blood found deep beneath the ground.

Are your roots buried deep within, a graveyard previously used for sin, ****** by the first degree or people slaughtered ritually.

Your stalks ramble and roam over the land, covering it in a prickly hand.

Ready to ***** someone in a flash, should anyway get too close, defending yourself, making a stand.

You invade spaces, wrapping your shoots around objects in the way, then carry on rambling, nothing gets in your way.

The only way to stop you in your track, is to take a pair of shears and begin to hack.

Hacking away at your limbs, bringing you to your knees, pruning away the dead wood and leaves.

It will not rid you permanently, one thing is for certain, you'll be back again next year we'll never bring down the curtain.

A Vampires Life
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
I've been on this earth such a very long time, 500 years have gone.
I've seen many Kings and Queens come and go, it's been so very long.

I have a disposition to culture human blood, lovely thick and warm.
One bite of an elegant ladies neck will stand me in good stead.
One litre of a royals blue blood will give me life, rise me from the dead.

By day I live in a wooden box, I like to call my bed.
It's lined with silk and fits me well from side to side and length as well.
I like my room to be cold not hot, I'm not too keen on fire.
One touch of that hot flame and my bed becomes a wooden pyre.

I lie in bed dreaming of what's to come, of the night ahead.
Who will I party with tonight, will they serve a pigs head upon an apple bed.

I'm not too keen on garlic, it makes me run away.
But I'm happy feasting on calves liver or maybe a lambs leg, a delicious beef steak, all of course must be served rare no other way will do.
Rare with lots of blood oozing on the plate.
Makes me very happy, makes me shiver and shake.

For cake perhaps Red Velvet with Blood Orange sauce, served with coffee in a cup and a dish of petit fours.

Most of all I hope some warm thick blood will be on offer.
I must get my fix before I head back to the safety of my wooden coffer.

If I'm lucky tonight will be carefree no one chasing after me.
Stakes and Crosses in their hand determined to banish me from their land.
For everyone knows to **** a Vampire a stake through the heart will do.
To be honest that would **** anyone, even the human called you.

So to finish my story I bid you farewell and hope our paths do not cross.
For that will surely mean that I nip your neck and then you will be no more.
Just another notch on my bedpost where I keep the score.
A little night time story, hope you enjoy

Cut of a Knife
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
I ask myself a question, deep within my soul
Not sure if I'm wanting the answer to know.

It's a question others have asked themselves in time.
The answer can go two ways, it can cut you, finish you, break your soul - end your life in sixty seconds, just like that with the edge of a sharp knife.

The other option is that somewhere deep within, reflexes happen, safeguards kick-in.
Your body and soul reawake, for you another day to take.

It depends of course upon your mind and when you search it, what you find.

Is it your choice of another day more time to laugh and play, dance and sway.
Another chance at happines, another chance to live.

Or is your choice to slip away, quietly without goodbyes, no longer here to play on earth, your physical home where your mother gave birth.

What is your choice, what do you do, is there anyone around, worth fighting for, ask yourself this question first, I implore.

For once the blade has done its job you cannot turn back, your choice is made and the cut of a blade has taken your life and that's a fact.
Different style for me

As a Poet
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
Who do you see when you decide to search internally?

Do you see someone wise, or do you see a fool?

Do you see someone with a light heart or do you see someone still looking for their glow?

Do you see someone who feels deep, or do you see someone scared to take the leap?

Do you see someone who likes to show they care, or do you see someone who really does not want to be there?

Do you see someone who is frivolous and funny, or do you see someone who is perfectly happy being lonely?

Do you like what you see, Dear Poet please do tell, do you like what you write, what you try to sell?

Do you feel confined or free, are you happy with what you see, when you look internally?
Well what do you see?

Two Roads Ahead
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
Two roads lie ahead but how do I choose
How do i decide which road to take and which one to lose

Road One is bumpy and full of twist and turns
Making the journey one of adventure, never quite knowing your fate

Road Two is straight ahead, you can see from A to B
Nothing particularly unusual or out of the ordinary

I could choose Road Two with nothing to lose and yet nothing to be gained
Maybe always wondering will life always be the same
With nothing to aspire to or dreams to acheive
Stay upon this steady road, deciding never to leave

It seems a shame to me, to live your life this way
Never challenging your talents or feeling any pain
Never knowing even the smallest of change

Road One of course is more treacherous more to lose and gain, opens you to challenges, encourages you to accept and feel the pain.
Road One lets you know that there is more to life than steady 1,2,3, Road One means your living life and that seems a good thing to me
As spotted by Diya, this was indeed inspired by Roads Not Taken, Robert Frost

The Happy Drunk
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
One night whilst walking home alone.
A drunken man came into sight
His walking was loose hips and made for a fun sight.
At first I thought of turning and walking the other way.
Then the man started rolling and his hips began to sway.

I stayed on track best foot forward, just don't look him in the eyes.
If you keep walking right on past and as fast as you can go, I began to internalise, don't look back and don't walk too slow.
I felt as though I was worldly wise and not a young fool who had just left school.

Then the unthinkable happened.
We were level with each other, my heart began to race at such a heavy pace.
I raised my fists in self defence. He laughed and sang a song Waltzing Mail da was the name, then he wandered on.

I looked back as he passed me by, loosy hips swaying from side to side.
Not a care in the world, nothing to hide.
Just a happy drunk on his way who knows where.

I wish I was a happy drunk I'd like to have no cares but for now I wander aimlessly from Town to Town, looking over my shoulder at who may be around.
Waiting in the wings for the next Happy Drunk who sings, maybe the next one will fancy himself with me in the rings.
Experimenting different styles, new for me

Is Pizza like the wheel of life
To be consumed slice by slice
Some consume it slowly and enjoy each slice
Some devour it quickly, its gone in a  thrice
Some like it plain others add spice
In life we each make choices based on our likes
Some like it plain others with spice
Sounds to me that Pizza is indeed similar to the wheel of life

Snowing Again
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
It's been snowing here for over an hour, its not even laid a trace
Its wet outside and this time our country will not be disgraced, as everything halts for a drop of the white, for us in The UK it is not an annual sight
So much excitement usually exists when a little dusting of the white stuff makes our pavements glist
But for today we will not panic, nor make our way home early from work
Instead we will watch the snow falling around and be thankful that its not settling on the ground
That people will not be stranded in their cars far from home
That accidents will not happen on streets that are frozen with ice
That buses and trains will make their journey's to the end, reuniting families and best friends
Last time it snowed people were cut off, drifts of ten feet deep, this brought out the best in people who offered services to the elderly and housebound utilising their jeeps.
Today we may decide to stay in all day, keep safe and out of harms way, safely watching the snow fall to the ground making us breathless with its beauty but not bringing us to our knees
Taunting us with the promise of foot deep snow but knowing its just a tease
I like to sit and watch it fall but hope that it ends soon after all tonight is Games Night with my Grandson and Daughter as they take over the living room
We've got Pizza to make and Blue Rays to watch, Paddington 2 is in the queue, so just for today Snow please don't lay, just blow through.
It's unusual, i do love snow but we don't see it often, this year we've had it twice in a couple of weeks but it was already wet outside and the snow isn't laying, as my son and his wife are due to go out tonight and we are having the kids overnight and their auntie is meant to be coming around too for pizza it would be a shame if it got cancelled, especially as my grandson help me make the pizza dough this morning... but we will see what will be will be, as long as no one is hurt.

Being Me
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
Turn up, participate, connect
That's the key to being me
Turn up and show people that im there and I truly care
Show them that i see and surely they will see all of me
Participate fully in everything i do, don't gives less just give my best
Taking part is the start and the key to being all that is me
Connect with friends and family, even those that drive you round the bend.
Listen to what they have to say and you will have a truly spectacular day
For when you show yourself at your best, when it's easy and not a test
People will truly see the person that you are and that should be more than enough for you and them and indeed me.
Someone I know once said, you don't need to be more than you are, just be all that you are and that's more than enough.

Wedding Day
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
The ultimate day when families and friends come from far and wide
To stand by your side and rejoice when they hear you say the words “I DO”

Two simple words but what do they mean?

I DO – love you with all my heart until the day that we depart.
I DO – want you to love me too, forever and ever you say “I DO”.
I DO – want to take you in my arms and walk with you by my side, come along with me sweetheart we’ll travel far and wide and together, we’ll enjoy the ride.
I DO – want to grow our family, increase our Kin, brothers and sisters sticking together through thick and thin.
I DO - want to support you in all that you do, travel the world and see things new
I DO - want to be by your side to wipe your tears when you are down, to catch you should you fall
I DO - want to adore your body and you can ravish mine, always  keeping our bodies deliciously entwined

But most of all Sweetheart I Just want you and if you want me too, then i will be the happiest person on this earth to utter those two small words "I DO"
Our Anniversary is coming up 27th this month and our Son is getting married 31st March, it just got me thinking.

Gluten Free
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
Oh no I hear you cry
Is it contagious just walk on by
I can't imagine how it must be
To have to eat my food Gluten Free

It must be horrid, it can't taste nice
Do you live by just eating rice
I think i'll give it a miss if you don't mind
I like my bread as you see not made with Xantham as its Gluten Free

So keep your GF and I'll raise you some wheat
Here have some wholemeal bread it's my treat
How about some pasta with sauce let's put you to the test, I'll just add some spice or lemon zest
I bet its not real, she won't be able to tell
It surely won't harm her if I make hers the same as mine

Oh dear why are you in such pain, I felt sure you wouldn't notice when I put you to the test
I'm very sorry my lovely I'm sure it will soon pass by
Next time we'll eat GF when you next come by

In the meantime let's raise a glass of cheer I bought your favourite glass of beer
This is my dearest friend and neighbour she means we'll but can't understand the meaning/ idea of eating GF. I've recently developed an intolerance and eating GF really does help for me it's now a lifestyle, she'll get used to it eventually

Mondays
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
Busy, busy, busy
Chatter, chatter, chatter
People catching up to date
They were out at the weekend on a date
It was so much fun, everyone rushing to relate

Busy, busy, busy
Chatter, chatter, chatter
It's Nobodys  favourite day
Is it because it's the furthest from the weekend
Or because it's the nearest to the weekend

Busy, busy, busy
Chatter, chatter, chatter
Work to live, Live to work
I know which I prefer
I'd prefer if Mondays were replaced with another day
That way I could stay home and play

Busy, busy, busy
Chatter, chatter, chatter
Now I work a Tuesday and it just isn't the same
I miss the Monday morning chatter by the kettle
Catching up after the game
You can't win, I found this little ditty on a pad in work, I hadn't written it up though. I often write in work when I need a distraction from spreadsheets

Vortex
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
Feeling in a Vortex, my own supernatural blackhole
Looking for a place to belong, somewhere to go
Spinning, tumbling, twirling, going round and round
Looking for a place to land but not yet found
One day I will be floating free, cut loose for all eternity
Looking down and wondering was I the best I could be
I hope so - this was written a few months back when at work, so guess these feelings were related to a bad work day.
I do currently feel lost at work, the situation has changed and its not something i want to do anymore
I like being home, i wish i could just be home writing, playing with the grandkids but bills must be paid  :)

3 Eggs in that there
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
Saturday afternoon at about half past three
I would settle down in front of the tv
My Gran and Grandad in their chairs watching Lucille Ball Show or Fred Astair
At 17 45 the football scores would be read
My Grandad checking them off one by one
Chasing 24 points the top score, fingers crossed for a score draw, eight of them would set you right
Ah this week its out of sight, better luck next week, we'll try again
My Gran would always  bake, buns or a cake
Coffee was my choice of drink with Coffeemate instead of milk I was posh I would think
A slice of sponge to go along I can hear my Gran say "are you going to have a slice today"
Then she would always add" there's 3 eggs in there"
I would smile and say please Gran after all It was Saturday and all was right with the world.
Loved my Grandparents this is all so true, happy happy memories

What should I say
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
When I think of you do I know what I want to say?
Do I get tongue tied, caught in a trap
Do I suddenly get in a flap?
I see you standing over there and want to tell you who I see
I can't find the words to speak my mind
I can't find the words for you and me
I'd like to say I love your eyes
At first glance you seem worldly wise
I'd like to say you have a **** face
Take me home to your place
But when I get close to you
The words I'd practiced in my head get muddled and instead
I whisper I love you quietly and go home alone to bed
Just playing around with words

The beauty of nature
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
Nature is a wonder and joy
From tiny creatures to giant beasts
Weather storms from the East
Geysers ready to blow
Snails moving very slow
From microscopic bugs to giant turtles on the beach
Birds flying high and out of reach
Rainbows and Sunsets with bright red skies
Super blue blood Moons and northern lights
Sloths idly lazing in a tree
Bees, butterflies moths and flies pollinating flowers as they fly by
Elephants and rhinoceros drinking at the watering hole
Worms that are bright giving off a glow
Stars twinkling in the dark night
The sun shining strong and bright
Each creature differs in stripes or spots, tusks or horns, hooves or paws
Some have poison in their bodies ready to release in a bite
Some are docile creatures keeping theirselves hidden from sight
You have mountain ranges that go on for miles
Painted ladies making you smile
Whales with humpbacks and Sharks with hammerheads
Rivers that give creatures a place to call their bed
Swans that glide effortlessly and with grace
Flightless birds that can sprint and win a race
Monkeys, tigers, crocodiles and kangaroos
Bears brown and black, Polar that are white, Pandas and Koala too
Roaming plantations not kept caged  in zoos
Coral reefs keeping coastlines safe from waves crashing on the shore
A big wide world for everyone to explore
Waterfalls 1000metres high, water cascading and falling to the ground
Hydrating the grasses and plants that surround
All of this and more can be found if you open your eyes and look around
Take stock of the beauty outside your door
Recycle plastics don't drop them on the floor or overboard at sea, don't fly tip your ******* selfishly
Plant wildflowers in your garden and you will be repaid by a very beautiful colours ablaze
Attracting Bees and butterflies to your home
Teaching your children to respect and admire
Keeping the beauty alight and on fire
For future generations to cherish and see
Keeping nature healthy and robust for eternity
A prompt from another website got me thinking, hope you enjoy

The snow blows in
Jackie Mead Mar 2018
The snow blows in
Everything stops
Schools closed, roads blocked
People struggling to get about
Workers still working, just about
Some children, older ones, home alone
The lucky ones didn't have work today, they've taken their children out to play
Make shift toboggans on a run, snowballs and snowmen prettily adorned
Road covered in white hard to see the lines, the snow has covered them really fine.
Home now I can at least hanker in, enjoy the snow whilst keeping warm
Watching others children at play, what a very special day
Last time snow settled in Exeter was 2011, got to make the most of it

World book day 2018
All the children in fancy dress
Mums and Dads competing to be the best
Imagination running wild some of the themes are they really for the child?
Gruffalos, tortoises, turtles and bears
George's Marvellous Medicine, BFG and Hares
Darth Vader makes a show, Harry Potter, Princesses too
How much paper, material and glue?
How much time for the parent to make?
There's reading homework, maths too, extra curricular clubs, trips to the zoo
Then there's evening meal and bathtime, all of this before 7oclock
Just a few minutes for the parent to take stock
Before cutting, crimping, glueing around the clock
But on the morning all is worthwhile when photos begin to show
Of smiling children in their suits and parents all aglow
Beaming with pride in their eyes as they walk their little Minchpin to the gate not even one second late

Happy World Book Day
World book day today all the parents in work go mad for dressing their children up as characters from a book, it's chaotic fun

Little did i know that the snow would come and this would be cancelled, all schools closed, so this will most probably happen next week now, at least all the preparation is done though :)

We did not get to be proud Grandparents and watch you grow
But  Two Stars came and shone one day the result is one that did remain,  now Alfie has an earth brother Roman's his name
Two Stars your family still think of you dearly and cherish your memory
We wish we could have held you and kept you in our care
All we asked was for God to love you until one day we can all be there

My dear friend
Jackie Mead Feb 2018
My dearest friend, I thought I'd put paper to pen
and write you a friendly letter
I started to think what i could write to you about and decided ......
.....
I'd write to tell you about the good times we had, about our hopes and dreams sometimes happy, sometimes sad
I'd write to tell you about our thoughts and visions about lifes goals and expectations
I'd write to tell you about being young and bold, growing up and growing old
I'd write to tell you about the happy memories we've made, the families we've grown, the friends we've made
I'd write to tell you about the loves we've had and the loves we've lost
I'd write to tell you about the mistakes we've made and those yet to come........
................................................

Then I decided i wouldn't write at all, for to know what's around the corner is to miss out on living life.
My dearest friend at the end of the day, all i have to say; is you only have one life, live your life to the fullest, take chances, make memories and connections, don't look back, lifes too short for regrets, but most of all dear friend..... Be Happy

Planes
Jackie Mead Feb 2018
Inanimate objects high in the sky, silently they fly, silently passing you by

Elgantly built, some for speed but mostly built  to cover a need

A need to get from A To B as quickly, cheaply and efficiently

Transporting you from your life at home to another less familiar zone

Some of us like it hot and by the beach, tanning and surfing all day long

Some of us like to be out of reach, isolated in a small hut on a hill, hiking each day is our chosen thrill

Some of us choose a City Break, a short hop to another land with different vibes and different sounds

Some of us fly business class of course, they get the extra room and a pillow to aid your sleep

The majority fly economy stowing your bags at your feet

Whatever your choice its much the same aim, getting away for a break is your game.

You may choose Las Vegas, Florida or France, Iceland, New York or Jamaica, Singapore, Rome or Venice, the world is your oyster.

You may choose to climb a mountain, dive in deep seas, camp by a fire, go see a band, dance by candlelight on the sand.

All of these choices are yours to explore let the Plane whisk you away to these destinations and more.

Your imagination is endless so let your mind roam free, have courage, book your ticket,  choose your destiny
Simples, a plane flew quietly overhead whilst I was out walking lunchtime

If I was born in a different place
When I look in the mirror would I see the same face?

If I was born in a different time
Would I still be yours, would you still be mine?

If I was born in a different place
Would I still be a thinker, able to think free, would I still be me?

If I was born in a different time
Would we still have married travelled the world, would we have 3 children that make us very proud?

If I was born in a different place
Would I still step outside for a run or would I find some other form of fun

If I was born in a different time
Would we have 3 Grandchildren to give us joy, 1 beloved girl and 2 darling boys

If I was born in a different place
Would I be proud of who I am or would I be a disgrace

If I was born in a different time
I would have missed so much that I can now call mine
Just a few thoughts inspired from a line in a drama I was watching last night

The Mouse with the house on the River Louse
Now has a family of 12 to feed
A husband and ten smaller mouths all reside with the Mouse in the house on the River Louse

One day the Mouse with the house on the River Louse went outdoors to explore with the intention to find something tasty and fine to feed them all

She walked to the edge of the grounds to the bank of the River Louse, where her friend the Frog, who didn't live in a house but lived on a log in the middle of a bog with his friend Bee, was waiting for his friend to serve her tea

The Frog and The Bee showed the Mouse with a House on the River Louse a table set fit for a Queen with fine China cups, saucers and plates and a tablecloth made of lace

The Mouse with a House on the River Louse was delighted and very excited as the Frog and The Bee said at half past three they would be joined for tea by a new neighbour Miss Molly

According to the Frog and Bee Miss Molly had just moved with her dog and cat, a dog named Mouse and Ferret the Cat

At half past three Miss Molly came to tea and brought with her muffins and cream
The Frog and The Bee brought scones and jam and the Mouse with the house on the River Louse brought some crackers and cheese

The children of the Mouse with a House on the River Louse joined their mother and Miss Molly, the Frog and The Bee the Cat named Ferret and the Dog named Mouse and quickly polished off the delicious tea

The children and the cat and dog all asked if they could play in the bog, the bog where the Frog lived in the middle on a log.

The Mouse with a House on the River Louse agreed and so did Miss Molly and the Frog and Bee

The children, the Cat and Dog all played happily in the middle of the bog

The children, the Cat and Dog found some sticks in the bottom of the bog and began to weave and make a raft, all they needed was a a Sail to catch the draft

One of the children squeeked with excitement  when they found a lily pad on the ground
Quickly the lily pad was hoisted atop and the raft completed and ready to sail in a hop

The children, Ferret the Cat and the Dog named Mouse were playing lovely outside the house, pushing the raft up and down as not a drop of wind was to be found
Then suddenly the wind changed direction and the northerly winds began to blow, they started really slow but the wind got faster and very strong
The children, Cat and Dog couldn't hold on for very long and suddenly they were being taken away from their safe play, being carried down stream and they all did scream

Just like that Dad came home and took out of his pocket a telephone
He called the coastguard to come quick, a raft had drifted and was headed for the slip, soon they would be in the ocean with the bigger ships

Aboard the raft 10 young mice, Ferret the Cat and a Dog named Mouse, all huddled together, to be less afraid, hoping someone would save the day

The coast guard turned up at the house and asked to speak to the Head Mouse
Mother and Father together they spoke, eager to save their children cut afloat on the boat

Then at half past four came a big roar the coastguards had saved the day, the raft had been caught and brought on board just before they got to the edge of the bay and sailed away to the bigger bay

The Mouse who had a House on the River Louse, Dad, Molly the Dolly and Frog and Bee all shouted ecstatically "Thank you Lord for hearing our prayers and sending the men who saved the day and rescued our children from the mouth of the bay"

The Mouse who had a house on the River Louse counted the heads, toes and noses of the children to confirm they were all safe and then said their goodbyes and ushered them all safely inside
The 6th and possibly final chapter of the Mouse with a House on the River Louse
Once again an epic read so thank you to anyone who takes the time to read it

A classic winters day
Jackie Mead Feb 2018
The sky was bright blue
The clouds were white
The sun was shining gold
But not a bit of warmth came from the sun it was still bitterly cold

You dressed in a winter coat, a scarf around your throat, gloves upon your hands
Still the wind came blowing and chilled your bones, your face and ears and even your toes

Walking brisk and quickly the sun began to get stronger and you began to warm
Soon your removing your scarf and gloves as the wind drops and the sun shines and you begin to glow

It's a beautiful day, a classic winter day with the
Sky bright blue
The clouds bright white
The sun shining gold
And now you've warmed up the wind has dropped and your headed for home
Inspired by my walk today,  it really was beautiful out but freezing at the same time

Molly the Dolly and friends
Jackie Mead Feb 2018
Molly the Dolly lived in a house
With her two best friends
Ferret the Cat and a Dog named Mouse

The house was small but had enough rooms for Molly the Dolly to sweep with a broom

Two bedrooms, one for Molly and one for guests, Molly of course had the one that was best

A room to bathe amongst bubbles and foam, lay in warm water and revive weary bones

A room to lounge and put up your feet, in front of a real fire, giving out real heat

In this room Molly also entertained guests with cups of tea and slices of cake, muffins, scones and individual tray bakes

On a table by the fire was a chess set in miniature, each character resembling characters from Robin Hood
Maid Marion of course The White Queen beautiful and serene
Robin Hood The White King, robbing the rich and helping the poor made Robin Hood very good
Friar Tuck was a Bishop of course
King John on the other hand so horrid and mean, with a solid Black Heart, could only be The Black King

On rainy days Molly the Dolly would invite her friends in to play, you could never tell who would win, one bad move and the game would spin
One minute Molly would be winning the next "checkmate" would shout Holly Divine the girl from next door, "5-3 to me" she did shout, showing Molly how she was keeping score

Also in this room two smaller beds all soft and plush for Ferret the Cat and the Dog named Mouse
The beds were close to the fire to keep them both toasty and warm and next to Molly the Dolly's chair, so Molly could have them play on her lap when she raised her hand in a single clap

The last room of course was the Kitchen where Molly the Dolly spent most of her day cooking up batches of heavenly soup and baking scrumptious Pies that were full in the belly and good on the eyes

There was a Front Door to usher guests in and a Back Door to usher them out
The garden ran round and about the whole house outside and came equipped with swings and a slide, for fun of course, and a stable just the right size to house a miniature horse, a vegetable patch to grow veg for her soups and trees to bear fruit for the scrumptious pies

The garden went on and on it was so long you couldn't believe your eyes the garden was twice as long as it was wide

The garden ended where a river began and still the river was on Molly's land

On a hot day Molly the Dolly would put on a hat and slap on some sunscreen and  with Ferret the Cat and the Dog named Mouse they would exit the house and hop and skip to the river bank to play

Molly the Dolly would throw some sticks for the Dog named Mouse and small pretend mice for Ferret the Cat
Molly would take off her shoes and her socks  and her hat step in the water not too deep, drink something thirst quenching but not too sweet, keeping herself cool in this natural outdoor swimming pool

At the end of the day the three friends would return to the house inside dry their feet and clean their hands, eat some Pies and drink sweet tea then return to the lounge and settle in
Their favourite show on TV they didn't need anything else for the night just the friendship of these uniquely different three

So now I've introduce you to Molly the Dolly and a few of her friends, where they live and what they like to do.
I hope you enjoy reading about them too as I delve into their lives and hopefully take you along for the ride.
Some new characters, another epic story, if you take the time to read a bug thank you and please let me know what you think
PS anyone remember miss molly had a Dolly who was sick, sick, sick, she called for the Dr to be quick, quick, quick etc etc, maybe loosely had that in mind when writing this

I am a Traveller on a journey with no beginning or end

I am a Traveller who seeks new experiences with Family and Friend

I am a Traveller who likes to write about what she sees, how I view the world of course is uniquely me

I am a Traveller and set my compass to my next destination, plan my trip from A to B leaving room for spontaneity

I am a Traveller seeking out what I know, historic places, jewels in the Crown, maybe stumble across some old parts of town

I am a Traveller who loves to meet locals, sitting at a bar or restaurant, friendly chit-chat reveals a hidden treasure I would surely have missed if not for the local gossip

I am a Traveller I travel by plane, car, train and sea, there is no limit to the places I wish to visit and see

I am a Traveller who records everything I do and see by Pen and Photography

I am a Traveller with my husband by my side, we will travel until we can travel no more

I am a Traveller until the day I die and one last trip to the cosmic sky
I just love travelling

Beauty is
Jackie Mead Feb 2018
Beauty is all around
It knows no limits or bounds
It is not hidden just waiting to be found

Beauty is all around
It shows itself by the sun in the sky
It shows itself in the colour of your eyes

Beauty is all around
It reveals itself in new blossom and blooms
It reveals itself in life new from new born lambs to a new born you

Beauty is all around
It displays itself like a rainbow in the sky
It displays itself with different people of every shape and size

Beauty is all around
It shouts about it loud and clear when the thunder rumbles and the lightning strikes
It shouts about it loud and clear when you see on TV a Lion chasing down his prey or a baby Tiger at play

Beauty is all around
It shows itself off with Blue SuperMoons and Solar Eclipses
It shows itself off Volcanoes, Mountains and Geysers

Beauty is all around, take a look and see what you found

Mary Prince
Jackie Mead Feb 2018
Mary Prince was born enslaved to loving parents who could not be saved.
When their original owner passed away Mary was sold
At the age of 12 she sailed away to the West Indies where she became enslaved as a companion to someone  similar in age.
For many years she was treated well but then the Master did pass away and the family could no longer afford to pay
Mary was sold three times more against her will.
Not everyone treated her with contempt some families treated her well.
But still the choice was taken away when each time she was sold or leased like a car to you and I, a commodity for someone white and rich to buy.
The last owner did not treat her well, and flogged her to let her know when he was not happy.
Beaten, abused and ***** too, she finally did meet a man to Marry
In 1828 Mary Prince, still enslaved,  determined her own fate
When visiting London with her Master from Antigua she ran away
Fled to the home of Thomas Pringle
Who helped her write her book
Mary Prince was 45 when she died, it is not known if her husband was still by her side
Or if she died single
Mary Prince is a woman to be admired
So take a look buy the book and teach her history to your children

When the Sailor came to tea
Jackie Mead Jan 2018
We polished the brass door knocker
And
Swept the front door step
When the Sailor came to tea

We laid the table with our finest cloth
And
We set  the table with the prettiest fine bone china
When the Sailor came to tea

We served scones with jam and cream
And
We made sandwiches of all shapes and sizes
When the Sailor came to tea

We invited our relatives from afar
And
We invited our friends too
When the Sailor came to tea

We served Champagne with lots of fizz
And
We served Orange juice too
When the Sailor came to tea

We talked about interesting things of the day
And
We danced to, the beat of the latest music
When the Sailor came to tea

We felt the love in the room
And
We felt the love in our hearts
When the Sailor came to tea

I was delighted to be there
As
You see it had been 4 long years since  my brother the Sailor last came to tea

I See you in Nature
Jackie Mead Jan 2018
I see your eyes in the blue and grey of the skies
I see your long arms in the trees as the branches unfold
I see your feet running across the green green grass
I see your tears in the flowing of the seas
Tears of happiness your free from pain
Tears of sadness knowing we won't see you again

Sunset

When I left work tonight at five  o'clock
The light was falling but it wasn't dark
It was as though Van Gogh had taken his brush
Painted the sky in a faint blush
All different hues from grey to white to red and blue
And it got me thinking of you
I wish I could have captured its sight and shared it with you tonight
You would have loved the picture and the glow
How I still miss you so **

Defence walls coming down
Jackie Mead Jan 2018
The physical wall holds up the River and stops it flooding the roads
Heavy weather unusual rainfall has taken its toll
The river can no longer hold back, the water bursts through flooding the track
No houses in site, thank goodness we say and pray that the weather will dry up
Nature will be left to clear up the mess

The inner walls crumble and finally fall
A river of emotion comes tumbling out
It's starts off slow and tumbles and turns, picking up speed as it goes
Churning up emotions until they no longer hold tight
I push and push with all my might
The wall gives way and
Finally the tears they come aplenty and cleanse my face, body and mind
Who's around to clear up my mess?
Out for a walk yesterday and the canal banks had burst, I was stopped in my tracks and had to take another route.  It got me thinking about defence walls both physical and inner more virtual walls

This poem is as a result of that walk, I hope you like

Sailor - c1558
Jackie Mead Jan 2018
The Spanish and the English had been joined in matrimony with a seal of approval and instructions to Prince Philip he was not to try and rule.

In time a Heir would be born to his wife Queen Mary and then order would be restored, Queen Mary who was admired and adored died childless in 1558 leaving her sister as the Heir.

The relationship was a tentative one, holding on by a string, the English plundered Spanish boats and took all of their nice things.
They set their bounty before Her Majesty The Queen and duly she admired and asked for more to be brought to her, she was a greedy squire.

It didn't take long before King Philip of Spain did declare that we would fight the English and stop the robbing Privateers.

Then one day on Plymouth ***
Playing bowls one night, one of these Royal Privateers
Spied a fleet of Spanish ships and ran with all his might
To inform Her Majesty we were under attack
Her Majesty's orders given, we must of course fight back

The Spanish Fleet sailed past Plymouth and dropped anchor off Calais
Storms abrewed and vessels were lost
The Aramada ships scuttled away, returning back from where they had came
Francis Drake was a hero
Her Majesty The Queen was delighted and called him to the Palace where he got down on one knee and was duly knighted.
A little bit of local history
Jackie Mead Jan 2018
My heart beats to a rhythm of its own
Fast and steady it beats to its own time
Every time I look into your eyes
You give me light and air to breathe, my oxygen tank, that keeps me safe and free
You take me places my soul does seek
To the end of the universe in just one beat
Hold tight, look up don't let go let's see how far this journey will go
We'll take a boat trip to foreign shores, walk barefooted along silver sands
Together holding hand in hand
We'll set up camp and start to explore each others bodies
Take our time, reaching deep, let our hands, mouths and minds roam free
Take one step at a time until we are together for eternity one of a kind in body, heart and mind.

I saw two men
Jackie Mead Jan 2018
One was about 83
Crossing the road quite fast and merrily
Pulling his shopping trolley behind
The trolley as tall as he was short
This made me laugh and made me snort
He was smiling too and seemed quite a pleasant man
He seemed aware of the traffic on the road and got to the other side as quick as he can

5 mins later I saw a man about 85
He was as tall as he was wide
Slowly crossing the road
Daring the motorists to try and go
When he got to the other side he paused I thought to wave thanks
Instead he lifted his ******* in salute and lifted his hat as all the motorists went toot toot
This made me laugh and made me hoot

At first I was shocked and a little rocked and then I began to smile

I finally worked it out if  am lucky to survive to the grand old age of 85
I hope I still have fire in my belly and able to walk about instead of sitting in front of the telly
God bless the OAP's and what do they have to worry about anyway, motorists are far too impatient to be honest.

Becoming a Sailor
Jackie Mead Jan 2018
Back in the day a boy would run away
Feeling very bold, he would head towards a dock, stow away in the hold.

After 5 days at sea and feeling very hungry he would show himself to the crew.

First he would get a beating then he would get some tea, finally he would be put to work out upon the sea.

The boy would become a man, sailing the seven Seas.
Eventually being given a boat that he has full command.

He and his crew would become very tight and have each others back should they get in a fight.

They set course on a map, no technology or Sat nav to send them on their way.

They used the Stars and Planets as their guide, using the Milky Way or Pluto and Saturn to chart the destination of their ride.

2 days now until they reach shore who knows what awaits them when their feet hit the ground.

Hard to tell what lies await what new vegetable or fruit will be their fate.

Will it be potatoes or tobacco this time, who will be around to tell them of it's name, is the island inhabited does it have a name?

Are the locals friendly will they offer food or will they be unfriendly and threaten to raid the boat.

Strip the Sailors of their food, their wordly possessions and their coat.

Tis for sure being a Sailor back in the day, was not fun it has to be said but definitely turned you from boy to man.

When you returned to your home land after many years at sea, it most likely seemed very foreign and even unfriendly.

The journey from boy to man to sailor now complete what is there left to do but sit back, get your pipe out, rest up your feet.
Inspired by Lior Gavra's new book Bittersweet well done Lior I love it.

What is vanity?
Jackie Mead Jan 2018
Is it being displeased or pleased with the way you look
Perhaps fancying a bit of a nip and tuck
Is it taking time with your appearance everyday
Does it show in the way you hold yourself upright, or is that you being uptight
Is it in the way you talk to others or in the way you present yourself
Is it hidden within you, left on the shelf
Is it the way you smile at the camera, turning the spotlight on you
Is it noticeable in all that you do
Is vanity simply the art of taking care of the way you look, like designing the jacket of a good book
Is it really bad to look in the mirror and  like what you see or is this purely vanity?
Going through surgery to have a tooth implant in time for my sons wedding at the end of March  (lost tooth when run over in the summer), taking a lot of painkillers and antibiotics at the moment and it got me thinking about whether this was all in the sake of vanity and was it worth it.  Actually as I am restoring something lost I don't actually consider it vanity and hopefully come the day I will be able to. Smile and therfore it will all be worth it.

The Party on the River Louse
Jackie Mead Jan 2018
The Frog and The Bee and the Mouse with the House lived together in peace and harmony on the River Louse.

One day the Mouse with the house did declare it was time that he moved out of there.

The Frog and The Bee did not agree and set about convincing the Mouse with the House that he needed to stay on the River Louse.

They sent out invitations to all around to attend tea at half past three.

The tea party was in honour of the Mouse with the house to be held on the banks of the River Louse and hosted by his dear friends The Frog and The Bee.

One by one each creature replied and the guest list rose quickly to Twenty Five.

The Frog and The Bee decided the tea would be civil indeed and The Frog made some scones and The Bee made some honey.

At half past one The Frog and The Bee set up some tables to lay out the tea.

At half past two the tables were laid with the scones from The Frog and The honey The Bee had made.

The scene did look grand, pots of tea and saucers of milk all laid on a tablecloth made of silk.

At half past three the guests started to arrive.
The first of the guests to arrive were The Elf with one ear and The Fly with one eye. The Mouse was delighted to see his friends, the ones who helped get Horse around the river bend.

Next came the Horse and his Master of course to thank the Mouse with the House on the River Louse for his friendship and help on the day that the Horse could not get around the river bend and the Mouse with the House, The Elf with one ear, The Fly with one eye, The Frog and The Bee all pulled together and worked merrily to assist the Horse round the river course.

One by one others did attend, there was a duck who lost his cluck but the Mouse with the House helped him every day until he could at last say "cluck cluck"

Next came a ****** who had forgotten how to weave but the Mouse with the House lay out the sticks until the Beavers memory began to tick and the ****** remembered how to weave.

Then came a beautiful Butterfly with bright red wings.  She told the Frog and The Bee that one day the Mouse had found her crying and sighing her wings had faded and she did not look grand a thing of beauty.  The Mouse ran back to his House and in his shed found a can that had Paint in Red on the side.  He took a brush and painted her wings and now the Butterfly all shiny and bright flapped her wings with all her might.

Last but not least the Mayor arrived with his glorious wife by his side.

Mayor and Mayoress Swan did agree that the Mouse with the House should not leave his friends of  The River Louse and they would indeed miss him dearly if he relocated his house.

The Mouse smiled embarrassingly and said "I am sorry he did declare, there's been a mix up, when I said" I must get out of there" it was only to the shops I intended to go but The Frog and The Bee moved too fast or I moved to slow"

The Frog and The Bee and all the guests were all delighted with the news and brought in some music supplied by "Five in a Pen" which of course were all mother Hens and they danced all night until the Moon went in and the Sun came out.

Then the Frog and The Bee said to their friend the Mouse "let's do this again next year, and Mouse can bake cake for the tea, our friends can attend and we'll dance all night to Five in a Pen and we'll eat scones and honey and cake too and we'll do this in honour of all our friends and those who live and work on the River bend"

THE END
I wrote this at 2am this morning when I couldn't sleep.
If you've read my other poems The Mouse with a House on the River Louise and The Frog and The Bee, these characters will be familiar to you and the poem will make sense.
I hope you enjoy.
