end
In one year,
I've wandered around like the seasons,
in search of a place to let my scars
turn golden.
My blood has freezed, and now
I'm carrying ice-bergs in my tired veins.
I am a product of fog and dust,
slowly becoming invisible
and unsettling.
Not even the moon could reach out to me
anymore,
for I've sunk so deep into darkness,
its light would die here.
There's a different king of living in this land,
all marked by agony and madness,
and grim laughs that terrorize human souls,
whispers that play with their minds.
I've reached the end,
the cruel end,
and now,
there's nowhere to go.

i.

summer stained your arms
with the rays of sunshine
that spill through to you
and you wear it proudly
wear the crown of thorns
placed on your head
by someone who’s long gone

ii.

last night i was singing
about seeing you again
and i don’t think i will
maybe i’ll go to the peak
of the highest mountain
and i’ll count everyone i can
and come down when it’s enough
that you might have been one of them

iii.

i’ll leak drizzle onto my palms
i’ll stay still till i rust
and then turn into dust
and people plant flowers
where my mind used to be
and the wolves and girls
will cry, cry for me
until the babies i had
finally learn to speak

I should've guessed, I should've known.
If there's a lightning, thunder will come.

That I was a guest, this wasn't my home,
but I was just too afraid to be alone.

Winds might change after tomorrow
and the sea my pain could somehow swallow.

But today there's this mountain of sorrow,
that blocks the sun, and makes me feel hollow.

If I'd written
My love poetry
Years ago,
When our passion
Covered college sheets,
When we were sleek
And bared our bodies
Boldly;
When we wore our hair,
Your ******* unbarred,
When we rolled
In your backyard,
Wetter than the dew;
That's one verse
I'd write for you.
Scratch out lines
On your legs,
See Venus rise
From the nubile shell,
Type stanzas
To compare your eyes,
Your neck,
Your lips,
Vis a vis;
The tender terror
Of our first kiss.

I'm seeing stars
seeing stars
paisley patterned
sparkling stars
quasi quilted
layered quarks
seeing stars
I'm seeing stars
sparkly
sugar-coated stars
sprinkled Spangled
pavement frost
seeing stars
I'm seeing stars
walking to the
doggie park
stepping along
the shiny
shimmering
glittery stars
I'm seeing'em
seeing stars
shining
shimmering
glittery stars
this morning before sunrise walking my dog to the park the thin layer of frost shimmered under the streetlights like glitter mimicking the stars above
Darling,
I need you
for the balance
of my life

Rachel Williams
Population: 131

Under the blinking light that, like her, faded
into habit, her life was paved on the cross
of Williams’ Settlement and Souls Chapel Road.

He wore holes in the knees of his
Wranglers, and knew what it meant to work
for a livin’. He’d sing to her every night,

but nothing could drag her down
County Road 31 and out of town. Lavender fields
swayed with the wind as he drove away. In ten

years, he’ll come back, guitar slung
between his knees. He’ll find her on the front
porch in plaid flannel, her silhouette fired

by the coiled lights on the Christmas tree.
Home sweet home is now a black and white Polaroid;
even the red bricks have gone white.

Man alone hopes until death
Works 9-5
And lays wasted for the rest
Only man counts the pills popped
& Bottles dropped
Throttle's hot till the high's copped
Sick of wanting what you don't got
Can't amount to nothing
Lest you got a gun that goes 'pop'
Death is non-stop
And nothing looks better
Than the cream of the other crop
So learning how to win
Without ending up on top
Is the only hope that you've got

she left my harp unstrung and
played ev'ry string 'til
frayed and broken

I'm not gonna
tell you that I know
what the ****
I'm doing

Anything I
do can and will
be my unsaying

Anything I
say can and will
be my undoing

Listen to my
eyes when I go
back to the
beginning

she left my harp unstrung and
played ev'ry string 'til
frayed and broken

she left my harp
unstrung and left
me snickering and
grinning
