Seven decades come and gone,
True love has found me late.
It seems I love another’s love,
I love my best friend’s mate.

She always greets me at the door
With kisses and a twirl.
Sometimes she leaps into my arms,
Makes my heartbeat go awhirl.
Then I have to hug and hold her,
Ask her is she still my girl.

When I stay a day or two
She always finds me in the night,
Slips abed beside me silent
Never stays ‘til morning light.

Oh god how I love her.
True love has found me late.
It seems I love another’s love,
I love my best friend’s mate.

This girl has the biggest heart,
A blessing from above.
She gives to all she meets or knows,
Her God given love.
I don’t know what she sees in me.
Sometimes I feel such shame.
Just like all the rest of you,
We’re pretty much the same,
We learned to hate, not freely give
Love given in His name.

But I swear that I do love her.
True love has found me late.
It seems I love another’s love,
I love my best friend’s mate.

Am I making you uncomfortable
But you don’t quite know the cause?
Or perhaps you’ve guessed already.
Pepper has four paws.

I met her as a Sheltie pup
Straight from the litter.
My job is mostly ball thrower,
Sometimes I play sitter.

Now almost three
She’s honored me;
I’m number two in her pack.
She makes me feel like number one.
How will I ever pay her back?

For never will this girl be mine.
True love has found me late.
It seems I love another’s love,
I love my best friend’s mate.
This poem has proven to be a hit with readers.
I have a pet dog; his name’s Wiley.
He doesn’t bark. I don’t fear his bite.
He walks behind me silently
and howls with his pack in the night.

I’ve got a cat named Rufus–
though we call him Bob.
He pads stealthily; he makes no sound.
His pointy ears and fluffy tail are all I see
in the deep grass.
The rabbits fear when he's around.

I’ve got a bird named Hawk.
I watch him soar in the distant sky.
Red and gold feathers bend  the air
perfectly, making me wish
I could fly.

I’ve got a rabbit named Jack.
He eyes me suspiciously
from the lawn. And hops desultorily.
Then he’s gone.
So-called "animal lovers" are often just looking for something to control, an emotional slave.

The Burra boomed
Shattering stillness
And announcing
all ‘smart’ phones alarms are defunct.
Lights lit up  one-by-by one,
As the sleepy slumber was no more.
Daily grind begins
On setting 2.0 on
The bean machine.
Thrive or die:
the mantra for this world.
Little Bee dances
Bravely and boldly
Around me and she's
Gathering nectar for her hive
And her tiny body a blur of grace
In every blossom little
Bee she knows her place.

A funny duck with feathers so bright
A lovely little duck to watch
And splash water in pure delight and he
Would quack in the morning sunlight
And with a quack and a splash and
He quacked and laughed
Splashing all through the night and
He'd brighten my day with such
A cheerful and charming little sight.

We should respect all wildlife,
Avoid going too near to a bear,
Because such closeness,
Is not adored even by a wife.

Give them their space,
Give them their privacy,
Give them their independence,
And don't endorse poachers.

Give them their respect,
Give them their secrecy,
Give them their homes,
And don't disturb their abodes.

Those who don't do that end up like:
Steve Irwin (2006) – Died when a Stingray barbed him to the heart
Cayetano Herrara (2017) – Killed by a jaguar while filming a documentary
Bradley Richard (2011) – Killed by a saltwater crocodile while snorkeling
Ben Nugent (2011) - Killed by a shark while surfing
Paul Rosolie (survived, but had a close call) - Almost killed by an anaconda while filming a documentary
Timothy Treadwell (2003) - Killed by a bear while filming a documentary

Even pet animals can **** you,
Stay alert, because this list is not exhaustive.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, and there may be other wildlife professionals who have lost their lives while working in the field.

Little squirrel up in the tree he
Leaps from branch to branch
And he grabbed his nuts
And he ate them up
With a leap and a twirl
It gave quite a whirl
And the furry little squirrel
Scampered away and hid
In the tree all day.

A little furry ferret
Who loved to sneak around and
He'd sneak and he'd steal
With such skill and appeal
With his whiskers so fine
And his eyes they did shine
And he's a mischievous bundle of joy.

A busy ******
Whose building his
Dam and he's
Quite fast and clever
With logs and with sticks
He's always on the go
And he works all day
And all night
To keep his dam just right
And he's created a warm
And safe home.

Oak trees, Pine trees, Cottonwoods, and Birch
Upon these trees,
birds love to perch
Birds come in all
sizes and colors
Birds calling and chirping
with all the others

Squirrels, Rabbits,
Chipmunks, and Foxes
Scatter the grounds, burrow into holes, and sometimes boxes
Winter, Spring,
Summer, and Fall
They gather thier goodies,
to survive them all

Deer, Moose, Antelope, and Elk
Wander through fields,
woods, and corn silk
Grazing on whatever
nutrition they can find
All hunkering down in these times with thier own kind

Bears, Bobcats,
Cougars, and Wolves
Hibernation, catch prey, climb and attack, the
beautiful, wild dog packs
in droves
Deep dark caves, burrowed holes in the ground,
to wandering forests, and
great big meadows
All these predators seem to come from the shadows

Waves of lavender fields of dreams, like river beds of sand
Fields of flaxen, golden grass waiving with God's hand
Daisies, Buttercups,
Rose's, and Daffodils
Just smell thier sweet scents rise into the hills

Dreams are Wishes,
Wishes are dreams
Wildlife are the makings of everything in between
Flowers are the fragrance of life
The blue skies and
white fluffs of clouds
Take away all the strife...
