Are you
the lonely wailing on the radio
or a smile for the screen

The strings do they pull
upward
or down
poor corners of your mouth
sore fleshy cheeks

leave the bone below for your own mind
Cream teeth molded to what the you believed
they want of you

Woman or man or he or she or him or they their
We admonish expectation.

Connect me please, I can't be alone
It's so dark without my screen
A piece of you stuffed in a pocket
A disease aimed to please

Leach the life from your host
Spread your posts, gather the likes
Between the fingers rests a drug
Without it can only be death

Powers that be create anew
Upgrade to another addiction
Eyes will dry up from the attention
You'll never be alone.
I sometimes fight with myself on how often I spend online. It's how I relax, how I sometimes work, how I feel myself. Yet a large part of me wants separation, to be out in the woods without flashing lights and the sounds of videos. Yet, we all know that there would be a phone in my pocket. You know, "just in case".

"I hate American late stage capitalism," my Spanish roommate says.
But what can I say to that.
He's right; every second spent here is paid for in gold
or in crimson blood.
Reality pulses with stimulation,
but still,
the clock's hand lazily wanders, lethargic, about its face.
This pathetic, white-haired professor,
lectures on coding in the front of the room.
"American's only know how to tell the time by looking at their phones," my roommate says.
But I think to myself, now, computers are the only way we bother telling time anymore. Time has become precise,
But it used to be clumsy, more art than discrete mathematics.
The professor informs the class that we have to pay for the textbook,
and again for the software that will grade our code,
and the class doesn't even blink.
"Class dismissed," says the clock. Ironic, I know.
The blue light of our phones,
the kind that keeps us awake at night,
is turned on as we step outside.
"It's noon," I say, and I hear the echoes of gunshots in schools just like this one,
Where someone got tired of paying in cash.

When I was a child, I watched TV
I believed self control was
not a part of my personality

Patience, a virtue I lacked
I'll download another app
to while away the time

Time spins away from me
Distractions are easier to reach for
The phone, the credit card, a touch away

The door is for necessary errands,
the door is for the deliveryman to arrive to,
the door is to be shut.

Life goes at a snail's pace
with no map, going to a place I dont really want to.
I put my seatbelts on and shrug.

A moment so precious is not savored properly anymore
a moment worth remembering is hard to restore
because we use technology and hide behind a screen
without even seeing the real dream

The time we want to capture a moment so true
is the moment we take our phones and just look through
are we even seeing the life of it all?
or is it just through the screen where the moment is so small

It's time to capture your memory through the lens of your eye
savor the moment, dont be shy
capture a memory and soak it all in
dont be afraid, this is the way it should of been

Curse the machinery, seconds wasted away and now trees can no longer sway. Do they notice there's a world out there?
Grasping the device, palms turn clammy, when released hands feel exposed and bare. The chilling sensation - the air feels cool. Their eyes water due to the lack of exposure from illuminated screens. Curse the machinery, they're blind to reality!

They say:
"Why aren't I getting as many likes?"
"I look fat in this photo."

Curse the machinery, they're making their way to the kitchen draw... Frantically, they're opening the kitchen draw. They're grasping onto the new use of a kitchen utensil until their pierced skin oozes out with rose tears.
This is the newest treatment to the curse of the machinery.

I’m like the update reminder on my computer
remind me in an hour...
remind me tonight..
remind me tomorrow...
later...
what happens when I update
will I perform better
or just be slower than before
is the update really worth the risk?
