What will your order be today?
If I may.
Will it be one of the plumb ones?
Or perhaps a skinny fish?
Do you want an English meal?
Or a French delicacy?
What about one wearing white?
Or are you more into blue?
Do you wish for one swimming free?
Or one drying up with me?
I can tell you this
they all wish to be picked,
taken home
so they won't be alone.

I dip my toes, blue,
Chlorination fever too,
What am I to do?

I stand, whinge, been told,
Waiting till I should be old,
Man, this water's cold!
Childhood, ah nostalgia!

as the bus pulls along the lazy river on Main,
a slouching mind and pressed cheek is a swimmer,
dipping toes

and meanwhile
the gentle murmur of pool-goers living inaudibly,
like hunched bunches
in shawls of shade

(interrupted only
by the occasional l-urch)

nodding, nodding
off and on and off and
into the water,
the swimmer slips in
...

Here, it is heaven on earth

an oasis
...

and the mind swims ever so far
ever so deep
...

i wonder...
...

and outside
a boy, barefoot
runs upstream

a shimmering second
an apparition of summer?
and out of sight
please help revise and improve! <3

Nose below the water
Steam clouds my view
Before my eyes
my hands find you

We swam under dusk
                  Faces lit by moonlight
Scavenging for scars
                  So bountiful they are.
I lost you in the coral
Guarded by ***** – threatening with
                  Their huge claws.
Eels flashing rows of white teeth,
                  Cutting tendons.
And I could not put up a fight
Swallowing the blood in my throat,
                  I ran.
My bare feet cut by shells and scales
                 My watery grave
This mockery of us.

When I was a kid, Summer was so much fun
Playing and laughing all day in the sun
We would all gather for a game of tag
Or running a race to the finish flag

We would think of ways to try and stay cool
Like going for a swim at the public pool
Drinking tall glasses of cold lemonade
While sitting under a tree in the crisp shade

Riding our bikes up and down the street
Waiting for the ice cream truck for a popsicle treat
Staying up late with my best friend
Hoping that Summer would never end

I'm grown up now but it's just not the same
The loss of innocence is such a shame
It's been a long time but they're still  very clear
Those summertime memories that I hold so dear
Summer is here and it got me reminiscing about those fun days I spent as a kid playing  with my friends having so much fun during summer vacation once school was out

I stood on the edge
Watching the water
As I was approached
By a family “friend”
He said
“Can’t you swim?”
I replied with
“No, I have never tried”
He grabbed my hair
And was about to
Push me in
And said
“Drown”

I fought the water
I fought for life
I would never let
That man be right
I flipped my legs
And swatted the water
Until drowning
Wasn’t the matter
The man looked at me
With disbelief
That a little girl
Could teach Herself
not to stand for
Death itself.

“Drown”
empty seas May 2018
swimming has always felt
like a sweet escape from my thoughts
focusing on the rhythm
of my arms and legs and lungs
working in sync
and all i can hear
is the splashing water

however
sometimes my anxiety learns how to swim
and i hear the voice in my head
you have things to do
this isn't productive
you piece of garba-
but
they're swept away by the current
until i have to dry off
but for the time
i have peace
style? consistency? editing? no, no, and nope
