I sat there
in the dark
staring at emptiness
the room grey with dust
my mind as empty as the bottle
I noticed three small black dots
lying in the corner
as dead as me

Then, a spirit stirred
Invisible to a teary eye
the black dots moved
and grew
      and grew

Now they are up in the sky
out of reach
from human touch

One is the Sun
the other the Moon
the third my heart
a smile a whisper
what do we have here
so wide that
well it must hurt
pulling you from cheek to cheek
no no don't take it away
as soon as you do that
I wont have a reason
for a smile
let me see it close
so I may see it all
and if it attempts to run
I would love to
try to bring it back
with a whisper
beautiful to say the least
for you always stop my eyes
their gaze trapped upon you
my attention
now stolen
you have no idea
the pull your beauty possesses
on my poor deprived eyes
you keep my heart afloat
even when its being weighed
it knows to keep you happy
it has to
stay high
beating loud
for you to return to less
that just wont do
My attempt at a Rumi style poem
Throughout the day
Your smile shines through,
It is precious,
And it is True.

A sweet soul lies beneath
Gleaming even when there's rain,
Yet even your smile fades,
Seeing you hurt brings me pain.

Be the sword that saves the day,
Be the shield that stops the blade,
Be the shelter when it rains,
And when it's sunny, be the shade.

Protect your smile,
For it is precious.
And save your soul,
For it is so sweet.
Unlike my other poems, this one is not to someone I love, it's to a person who is like a daughter to me, it is an important distinction!

A blackened river’s water beneath the moonlight
Shimmering sparkles
Atop ripples of despair
Bring to light glowing cheeks
Against a smile so big, so bright
Only he knows those blushing tones
Beneath the lavender rays
You can glow so bright throughout the darkest of hours.
The sparkle in your smile,
I will cherish it all the while.
Away, even if I for several mile,
Will always love you in style.

In your laughter, my joys beguile,
A bond that time can't defile.
Through storms and sunshine,
Our relationship will never be in vain.

In memories, our moments compile,
A journey of love, mile by mile.
No distance can our hearts defile,
Nothing will change even if I am in exile.

Through mountains of joy and valleys of tears,
Your smile echoes, calming all my fears.
A beacon of hope in a world so vast,
A treasured gem, destined to last.

In the book of my heart, this verse I pen,
The sparkle in your smile, again and again.

When you reply with a smiling emoji,
it feels like I’ve won a war.

But I don’t just want to see your smile on chat—
I want to make you smile
and see it in real life.

That would make me feel
like I’ve won a world war.

I feel sadness,
A quiet grief within me.
Not because someone has gone,
Not because life has ended.

We come into this world only to leave,
So why this sorrow?
Why this ache?
It’s not his departure that burdens my heart—
It’s the unhappiness he carried,
A life with so little joy,
So much pain.

Yet, through the window of my memories,
Whenever I saw him,
He was always smiling.
That smile—
Bright, enduring—
It lingers in my mind.

And now, I search for his picture
Amid a pile of photographs,
But I can’t find it.

Out-dated
Understated
Strange clothes and hair
That make some stare
Or all snazzy
And jazzy
Dressed to stun
For love or for fun

Whoever we are
And whatever we are
Fashion freaks
Cool and chic
Couldn’t care less
Overdressed

The one thing
We can all wear
Is a smile

Because a smile -
Is always in style
