I lie here awake
That's good. It's morning.
But my eyes still burn for sleep
Too bad. Get up.
My thoughts don't flash in the usual way, but ooze: Jello down a slight decline
Don't care. Get up.
My arms are weighed down by exhaustion
There's work. Get up.
But...
Get.
Up.

Fine.
Pretty much every morning for me
Goodnight all, I'm done
I will see you at sunrise
Or somewhere in there.
Maybe more like 9:30
First one awake, now how do you feel
For falling asleep so late?
You should have known,
                     when you're on your own
Up first is a permanent state.

Little birds chirp soft
Lazy sun awakens world
To my sleepy eyes.

Coffee rings stain my desk
And your fingerprints mark
Where your hands lingered
Last night in the dark

The morning sun shines bright
And your hair spills across the bed
I can't focus on anything
As you fill my head

Your arms stretch towards the ceiling
And I smile as you catch my eye
I think to myself again
How I never want to say goodbye
