There upon the ballroom floor;
Lights shone down -
On the couple of the evening grand -
With a choir singing their Love,
And eyes illuminated in beauty,
With stormy hearts ablaze;
That night may forever restore.
When you visit your prom this year or your next slow dance, I hope you find love within your partner's eyes. <3

We both like red
He's captured by its vibrance
While she dwells on its gloom
Truth is I love maroon

We both look good in it
Yet your sight belongs to another
He let a wide smile and she does too
While I stare in peace, holding myself together

I don't want to wear a dress, or at least I don't think I do.
I don't want to wear a suit, or then again maybe i do.
I'm not sure who i am anymore.
Stuck within this eternal identity crisis, living in fear of what everyone thinks.

Can't i just walk down the street smiling? The wind in my hair, the sun on my face? Feeling as if time is irrelevant?

Except nothing is irrelevant. Can't i take my girlfriend to Prom without feeling lost?

Can't we both be the prom queens?

While walking down to dance with you,
under the crystal Chandelier,
with every working bone I have left,
just to waltz, and hold your unchained hands.
Your eyes glisten like never before,
the music stopped, like the whole world did the same,
unforgettable ,yes yes it is.
I saw it in your perfect smile,
a smile that I've been yearning to see.
As we sat back to our seats,
across my sights I saw
a thing that has already been noticed,
as painful as it might be, regardless of how much I knew,
I just wanted to know, where did I go wrong?
Maybe It was my fault, maybe it was me all along,
and I'm just too stupid to follow the same mistake again.
I don't want you to go, I don't want you to let me go,
I wanted to tell you, but I can't,
I wanted to let you know, but I can't,
I want you, but I can't.
But I want you to have the best time,
And I did.
and I will never forget it, evermore.

I'll never have a dance with a girl that I've
Had my eye on since the first day,
I'll never see the neon lights and all ball room
Fights they like to have in these good days,
There's more to being a boy sitting all alone
And never being on the dancefloor,
But do I give a **** about all those things I'll
Never get to explore....
At Senior Prom,
At Senior Prom,
At Senior Prom.....

So when I hear them talk about the life I've always lost about
What to wear and what car to drive,
Or if I say I never wanted the same to go through what every generation
Has to go through they'll step on my pride,

Ain't the **** supposed to be segregated away,
Don't wanna live in reality, everything is just a phase,
What if I gave all of my time and never let it go to waste,
It's funny how life works , nobody will dance with me anyway,
At Senior Prom,
At Senior Prom,
At Senior Prom.

One night.
One night
Of magic, love, laughter.
One night
To drop your weights
And just dance, baby, dance.
One night
To see everyone you’ve known for years
As princesses and princes in their finest satins.
Jewels glisten and the smell of small flowers
Wafts through the air, mingling with the sweat of the dance floor.
Petals flutter from corsages, but no one seems to care,
They just dance, forget every fear
One night,
I had the best night of my life
I laughed and I danced
I kissed my love, and he kissed me
Under the light of a half-grown moon
Stars peeked through the fleeing storm clouds and smiled
And my love and I, we didn’t care who was watching
As we slow danced to a high-speed song;
We were singing our own song,
Just outside the party
And I felt the love
(with just a hint of lust)
Flowing between us,
And in that moment, in his arms,
I was home.

Prom is for the parents
Nothing less, nothing more
It seems to me quite apparent
As they drag me to the store.

Sure, girls all have fun
As they shop in search for the perfect dress
But until that is done
It seems to me they're only filled with stress

Prom is for the parents
I have to say
But when it's time to make a purchase
It is we who are left to pay

The tickets cost an arm and a leg
And the clothes our hands and feet
Before this is over we'll have to beg
And will wake up the next day on the street.

Prom is for the parents
They just love to take our picture
It would come as no surprise
If they went as far as to get a fixture.

But then comes that time
We've been waiting for all year
The night I call you mine
And get to hold you so near.

And although I don't know how
For you I'll give it a chance
When better to learn than now
Yes, I think I'll like to dance.

So prom is for the parents
If only at the start
But if I get to hold you close
Then Prom is for the Heart

Something silly I wrote before my senior prom to help with the nerves.
Matthew Harlovic May 2016
I wonder if my friends saw you at prom last night,
parading around with your new boyfriend.
I’m sure all stink eyes were on you two,
but you always seemed to like that attention.
I thought you would accompany me to the dance
this year, but you chose to find your own company.
I thought this prom would make up for the one
I never went to, but you didn’t give me the chance.
I know you remember my prom night
because you were there and so was your little brother.
I chose to hang out with you, my best friend,
and go to a movie instead. Though when the talk
about the wonders of prom rolled around, I knew
it meant a lot to you and so I promised to take you,
but I see that my promise will remain unfulfilled.
