I couldn't smile today, of all days.
I felt so mad,  angry,  at the routine of everyone.
Hating someone then pretending to love them irritates me.
Christmas is supposed to be joyous, a time of smiles and joy with memories.
Getting mad when you don't get the gift you wanted?  Grow up.
I watched someone I love not be able to stand up to hug his family at Christmas!
Angry because someone took your ***** Santa gift and you had to pick another one?
Grow up.
I had to pick up my hearts pieces--for falling in love with a drug addict--and now that I have chosen someone else, I am having to learn how to love all over again.
Unwrapping presents is a subculture beneath the societal continuation of "Christmas"
We don't know the true meaning,
All we know is there are gifts involved.
What if you truly sat back and watched everyone else open their presents?
Watch their faces and reactions to something you made instead of something you bought

I surprised him on Christmas Eve.
I made him think I had to work all evening,
Only I pulled in his driveway, called his parents to let them know I made it, and then I asked him to Skype with me via text.
He obliged, and as the camera turned on I saw his eyes twinkle,
You look beautiful
So do you
What are you doing?
Sitting in my car, you?
In a sun room,  waiting for family
Well, could you do me a favor?
Yea,  sure,  what? *
(stepping out of my car)
Could you turn behind you and look out the sun room glass and add one more person that can wait with you?

He rolls his chair around, where I am standing in his backyard facing the sun room,  all dressed up for him.
His eyes water,  and he starts heading out the door towards me
Kat,  I thought you had to work
I had you fooled,  didn't I?
I wanted to surprise you for Christmas
You did Kat

He wraps me in a deep hug,
Kisses my cheek,
And softly whispers in my ear,
Best. Present. Ever.*
That makes two of us.

Life to me is never about what you get from others but what you give to others.
Being selfish is a terrible quality
My family is irritating when they set expectations of disappointment for others,  and when you don't meet what they preconceived, they simply assume that the disappointment will come later.

It's Christmas day
Everyone's smiling
Everyone's fake.
Joy is lacking,
Emptiness is raging,
and no one cares
about anyone,
just everyTHING.
Why have we gotten
So superficial?
What has come
To the world,
That we should behave,
In such a way?
You get everything on your list.
It's still not enough.
You should be content,
But your fake smile
Is the closest thing
To happiness you know.
Your family is together,
But that may truly be
A bad thing.
Because, suddenly,
No one is themselves,
And you're all transforming
Into little Barbie dolls.
This Christmas,
Just like all of the last,
You ask yourself,
Why isn't it enough?
Well, I'll tell you why.
You're focusing on the wrong,
And not the right,
The bad,
Rather than the good,
Santa,
Rather than Jesus.
I'm sick of how fake Christmas has gotten. I swear, now it is all just some giant marketing ploy.

The fallen pine needles settle down
To the wind of another Christmas poem,
(sorry)
But it happens every time
I watch the wrapping paper torn away.

The imprint of the bucket
O'erflowing with joy
Is still on the carpet
Where the jewel tree stood proud.

I feel as if my presents were nothing
Because I'm crying at my temporary seat
Too often I've seen
That my loved ones will die.

It's the fire that keeps me going
Because it burns and
Though the logs are destroyed, like us
Their short lives gave incredible warmth.

I look around at
The joy of ruddy faces unwrapping
And I know that they don't care about their gift,
It's the people around them that really make them smile.
Merry Christmas. Ignore what lies beneath the wrapping. Unwrap the heart behind the people who give to you.

There's no
Christmas present
Like
The present.
Unwrap it
Now.

Winter is settling in
Snow begins to fall
Christmas music playing
Getting in the groove and all.

Loners wishing below the mistletoe
Getting a kiss at least on the cheek
Parents buying presents to show
How much they love their kids

Joy is spread all around
A time when all deserves
A crown of love and joy
Christmas what a happy time of year.*

Opening presents under that decorated tree
Believing in Santa as a kid
When we grew up and realised with glee
That our parents were actually him.

In death we will reunite
Gifts are the second half
Of the tree
Where it comes
Feels
Reunited at last underneath

The little boy left his soccer ball on the field,
perhaps to be kicked around later,
only to find it missing.
And it was a gift from dad.
So dad bought him a new one,
and the little boy decided to keep it in the trunk,
and never play with it.
And he just picked up another hobby.
Years later, he found his soccer ball-
deflated.
So he went out and bought a new one.
Martin Narrod May 2014
He weeps his heart, and hangs his head,
He doubles back, and follows her back to bed,
She says, " Some homes are towns and lives, while others wear their homes inside." And he keeps up though he's kept out, the volatile, the sudden frown.
She makes up the cupcakes but they're never vegan are they? No they're never vegan are they?

He makes a gift, and wrings his thumbs, the bubble bath, the tepid tub,
Outside where the rains have gone long, something gives him something strong,
And he picks up where he had left off, the trouble is he doesn't know when to back off, and the cupcakes aren't vegan, sweet and such spectacular, but they really aren't eaten, now that they've been made with eggs. No the cupcakes aren't vegan, though they are quite delicious. And he loves her forever, though he never eats again. No he never eats again. No he never eats again.

I wish
It were Christmas
Because I love the frenzy
And excuses it brings.

It's a beautiful
Excuse to not do
The ******* things
In life that we spend
Our lives doing.

The fairy lights
Entwined in the trees
Cross continents
With the buzz
of electricity.

I wish it were
Christmas because
It brings the beautiful
Excuse to love
Extravagantly.

Just as we love
The icy daisies
Of spring I love
The warm branches
Of bare Christmas Trees

I wish it were Christmas
Because I want to
Hang the rosewood
Baubles round
And see the glitter of sequin
Bunting strung happily
About the bedrooms.

I love the beautiful
Excuses brought
In the gifts bought
And how love is sieved
Through in the snow.
I miss christmas ok!
