We dream
we want
the awards you take
We dream
we buy
the hypocrisy
We dream
we want
the new days you describe
in your speeches

The soap box betrays you

Twitter. Tweeting. Facebook. Facade.
Insta. Instant. Dopamine rush.

If you could separate your self from the stage,
that would be great.
-- but if you're going to make a political statement
while accepting an award for your humanity,
you might want to think about what your
individual actions tell the world about you.

Who will listen?
Who will ask?
Looks like money once more
takes the last laugh.
Opulence. "Must be nice."

Wonder
True wonder
I see myself over yonder
The future is a promise that cannot be broken
My soul is a machine that cannot be broken
My love of life is an entity that cannot be broken
True wonder rarely approacheth
But it doth give me a sense of accomplishment
I'm finally happy
And I finally
Slowly sink
Into pink

the pink and red
in his cheeks
made me fall in love
each and every
time

over and over
again
pink hearts

Peonies are pink,

your words were unloving,

Much like a rose,

you were deceptive and cunning.

Upon embracing your beauty,

my tender flesh was transfixed,

and as my ichor seeped out,

I began to go limp.

My precious petals wilted
and flit unto the ground.

Back to the earth, for your roots to redound.

All of my love and all of my spirit.

I will leave to you,
my darling.

My dearest. ~

Violet fire crinkling the golden skinned surface
Lip gloss slumbered upon your open mouth
Pinked and pinned
Pinned and pink
Lace softened into the edges
Bridging skinny emotions
Plasticised eyelashes shape organic eyes
Breathless ripples evacuate

You remind me of the color pink.
This morning I saw you and ran away in thought.
I can't keep losing you.
I thought of putting you on my key chain.
Holding on to what's close.
I can't keep losing you.
I value your trust.
A piece of mind each time I look to the sky.
You disappear for hours, reappearing before you lay your head down to rest.
I indulge in thought.
Tucking you into a blanket of clouds.
You make your presence each time I see you.
The thought of putting you on my key chain becomes more enticing.
Just so I'll never lose you.
But God is fair.
Allowing me to see your face before you disappear once more.
You are love.
Painting the perfect picture before you lay your head down to sleep

Rain, so fine just like dust
looking at sky, purple,
over-the-top roller coasters
Peaking at 92 mph
dodging the yellow
More than numbers, I passed
Cardboard windshield for glass
Clarity, it comes and goes
I need to slow down
Even when I'm
Not going
Fast enough.
Too fast. Not fast enough.

a ghost once spoke to me,
that early morning in January.
and she was not ****** and pale and white
she was beautiful
like fireworks on new year’s eve

she told me lies
and whispers spilled from her pink, pink lips
a thirsty man got drunk on this
but i did not fall asleep
even when he vomited on the pavement.

because my favorite color is pink,
and the sun and the skies will never be pink
even when all the poets sing of it,
it will not turn cotton candy love

it is not my sister's lip gloss.

ghosts lie and they never appear
in the mirror behind you.
and she will never be ****** and pale and white

she will be beautiful.
and her lips are pink,
her cheeks are pink

i keep her in my late December night,
when I am white and pale and ******
i am drunk with her secrets
confessions of a ghost.

but i am not asleep.

Perched atop a table, surrounded by some jazz

Sits a pink rose as glamorous as

A golden age Hollywood starlet

This rose is nocturnal, resides in her own darkness

The rose lives in shades of grey

Like the remnants of cigarettes in a nearby ashtray

With the occasional ring of cherry red lipstick

Her intoxicating perfume makes men sick

The fragrance of a pink rose

Never does as shes told

Circulates the room like a cloud of smoke

And dances around as if life were a joke

Almost transparent in the full moon’s light

A breeze knocks the perfume out of sight

Natural Beauty is an oddity of her own

With blush pink petals, this rose stands alone

The fragrance drifts out of town

Near some trailer parks, waiting for something to go down

Traveled along the highway’s long, slick road

The fragrance belongs in a dream world of her own

Some dare to bottle her, capture her essence

Fools! Will they ever learn their lesson?

Somethings must remain untouched by man

For they have been beautiful since their lives began.
This poem is inspired by

Josef Breitenbach’s artwork, “Fragrance of a Pink Rose”,

New York, 1945.
