People tell us that
People are good, that
People are strong, that
People do wrong, but
People will right it.

I say that
People are good, but only if they try.
I say that
People are strong, but their strength isn't always a good thing.
I say that
People are wrong, and sometimes they don't accept it.
I say that
People don't always right their wrongs.
I say that
**People aren't perfect.
I also say that people are jerks that really need to get a whack on the side of the head, but that wouldn't have worked with the poem.

I told my dad
I was watching the poetry slam on my laptop.
He scoffed and rolled his eyes.
“Opinions are like **** holes.
Everyone has one.”
Quote/unquote my father.
Maybe that’s what’s wrong with the world.
Or is it what’s right?
Father sees more of a square,
but I like to see the world as a mess.
A beautiful mess, yes,
but not a square, geometric shape;
Sharp with points and edges and straight lines.
Are opinions really like that?
Opinions should be opinions.
Not right.
Not wrong.
I want to change his opinion on opinions.
Funny, isn’t it?
How can that be possible
if he sees a stream of words not a meaningful mind?
“Opinions are like **** holes.
Everyone has one.”
Could it be the opinion that seems so far fetched.
So out stretched.
So **** wretched.
Opinions are not **** holes.
Opinions are messes.
Some beautiful.
Some ugly.
He may see a **** hole,
but he may need to back up or put his glasses on.
These “**** holes” he speaks down upon are the “**** holes” that inspire me.
They make me feel like I’m not the only one who thinks like I do.
Like I’m not the only one that thinks stereotypes are stupid.
Like I’m not the only one that thinks equality is talked about
but not acted upon.
Like I’m not the only one that thinks that there is a God
and that is my God.
Like I’m not the only one that thinks opinions are not **** holes.
I told my dad
I was watching the poetry slam on my laptop.
Now I wonder, if he heard this poem, my poem,
Would he think that opinions are still
only just “**** holes”?
My father irks me.

I shalt not fall in love with the hand of one god
For many oversee my world.
Nor listen to the lies that dance off your tongue
In a way so distant and curled.

See I live in a way so peaceful and kind
As these spirits around me say.
For seeing through the eyes of one powerful man
Is like selling my soul to the grave.

Your love-
Your captain-
Your savior of beast-

Although whoever betrays him is of ways-
Of crafts and horrid slurs to keep
Me locked in with devilish dismays.

The fate that lies if I do not drift
In love with the hand of your kind.
Of a man that promises all and hell
If I don't sync with the ways of his mind.

So go on and tell me the ways I should see
Although I feel it deep in my heart.
For if I succumb to the ways of your world
My life will diminish and fall apart.

Surrender my soul for one who sees all as sin?
I'd rather vanish into the depths-
Of whirl winds and tragic mystics that spin
Down the treacherous dismays of man.

So go on and tell me the things I should feel
Just because you were brought up that way.
For it doesn't mean I shall appeal to his eyes
For mine turned opaquely to grey.

If hell is what I'm given for my love
Of many spirits and gods-
Then let this reign of "darkness" devoir
My body-
My heart-
And my mind.

I don't judge one based on their views/religion.
I think it's beautiful that many have different beliefs. And I believe all should be respected equally.

You can't judge a group based on one individual.
And you can't judge a system of beliefs based off of  an individual either.

People are so quick to point a finger and beat down on something that they don't understand.

But the fact of the matter is, people need something to believe in.
So let them believe.

Try to see one man
On the street
While the other
Is warmed by the fire he sets in others

Try to see people
Ignored
Because of where
They are from.

Try to watch as
Your life slips away
Under some minute decision
Of a man miles away

And not do anything.

The state is above us all
And we cannot pretend
That it is "made of oak or iron
Instead of the human spirits who make it."

Don't call politicians evil
Don't call them men of spite
I know some are hollow trees
But the forest remains green

Don't call all of them greedy
When most would sooner
Take death than a bribe
Don't confuse the few for the many

For they are the few
And we are the many
And we are getting in the way
Let's stop.
I'm actually going into politics myself, it makes me very concerned when people talk of politics so negatively.
We need to care about our societies.

Don’t ask me.

I haven’t thought about it.

Am not even sure if i want to talk about it.

It is not important,

It isn't even fair.

To put someone in such a scrutinizing glare.

It’s hopeless, its useless and even merciless

to the point, Mad-hatter says I’ve lost my muchness..

You better stop this pestering really soon.

Or you’ll regret your decision for many moons.

on this earth
in this place
things are used
as strings
for the puppet
of the population
the dancing marionettes
to not think
for themselves
they believe what
they are told to
and do not question
but questions
are important
they are a necessity
to our very survival
they want diversity
yet persecute
the truly diverse
what thought is this
that they believe
they call for logic
but do not use it
they call for peace
but start wars
they plead for love
but harbor hatred
they demand equality
and equal understanding
for different opinions
yet they do not accept
those of the people who
don't agree with them
they call for rights
then elect restrictions
and immobilities
into the office
what is this thought
what is this day
that we must live in?
Far from poetry. Just a rant.

No one tenders their own opinions anymore,
They just succumb to a majority.
Seeking enlightenment,
Punishable offenses of opening eyes.

Everyone is a vessel,
Filling themselves with the "right words,"
Rhetoric chains them in ignorance live on television.

They've snuffed out the flame,
We let them,
Because you listen and never speak.
Because you fear thought,
Fear isolation.

Free thought as a weapon,
Free speech as a banner,
Free people as a rebellion.

Challenge me then,
And challenge each other,
That we may more respect one another.
Not that they agree but that they contribute,
To a nobler enterprise,
Of living to offend our brothers.

If the world is moving forward,
But we are all still the same,
Can you call it progress?
It's a regress to nothingness.

We're void of conviction,
Apt to choose sides,
But not to make tides,
When we create a new one.

At chaos is peace when we disagree,
Seek peace in discord,
Seek agreement,
But never resolve it.

Dissolving ourselves,
And what we should hold dear,
Is when we lose ourselves,
When we dwell in fear.
I hate opinions,
they destroy everything.
Two relationships destroyed,
many more to be the same way.
I'm not perfect,
and I think differently.
Please, just hear me out...
Maybe you can help me
understand how you think.
I'm sorry for hurting those
who were my closest.
Now they're gone,
*and it's all because I had a stupid opinion.
Never...
ever,
get into a debate about
sexuality.
