Did you notice as you were packing
I was too
Packing up things to give away
Shedding what we don’t need
Emptying the nest
Literally
And now the house is a mess
There are boxes all around
Books off their shelves
Things out of place
It’s not going to get better unless I take a stab
At cleaning
Organizing
Transitioning
Because the house is just a mess
Without you

My bird's nest
full of little comforts
twigs and sticks
to some miscellaneous
a scavenger's eye sees value

Online persona
social media full
a scavenger
filling my dash
with little comforts

I have butterflies
roaming in my chest.
But these are not the
good butterflies;
these are the bad ones.
They have been kissed
by death and their wings
coated in despair have
found a nest inside of me.

For you, I'll make a nest
on top of the church spire
and fashion it
from plastic straw
and dangling colored wires
I'll cushion it with cold receipts
and pocket lint
and party flyers
and leave each morning
an early bird
to pluck stale crumbs
and rancid meat
from drifter's blackened feet
before even the buses
took to the street

You will feel at home

I will feel concrete

Dawn with her rosy red cheeks
Triggered dirt water to brew
Out of habit two mugs were set
One for me
                 and
One for you

A forlorn breath passed my lips
No cure for this mornings thirst
I did forget (I mean, I didn't want to face the fact)
                  that
You started college
An empty nest is just the worst

A moment captured
Those two mugs
A message sent
Expressing my love
Good morning kiddo, I miss our coffees. Love dad.
This sadness belongs to the mourning doves.
She dares
I AM

yet dawn
only wager
their firm
with rose
in our
court another
year that
Romulus take
these places
and spaces
in term
with harm
he retires

We are the perfect pair
Two lovebirds sharing a nest
I make your heart sing, you make my heart fly
Your voice puts my heart at rest.
This one is cute and silly.
(2017)

A sparrow leaves its nest
From woods to ecstasy
And captivates the worm
In smallest quantity!

And makes its subtle power
To dominate the ranks,
And kneels itself on meadows,
But timidly attacks.

For all the fumbling creatures
Who lost in Cavalry, —
The sky is only hope
To mountains and to sea.

Every time I cross the pond,
My leap takes me into another path
My world is switching up again
And starting in new place
A new time-zone
And my home away from home
Feels cozy like a bird’s nest
As I am in a tree of skilled, fearless flyers
So, I have found my people
