The wind did try to bend the tree.
The tree did not comply with glee.
“If you do bend you will not break…”
“But if I bend my back will ache!”
The wind blew soft, “It’ll only tickle.”
The tree just coughed, “If it remains a trickle.”
The wind blew hard: a threatening gale.
“I will stand firm; I know this tale!”
Without patience, like a wave,
the wind’s full force said, “Tree, behave!”
To this, the tree did move to bow.
The wind blew on, “You’ll listen now.”
Enjoy! :)

broke, scared, high, uncared - ******.
too in love with love to let him go.
hands ripping skin around fingernails to shreds.
contemplating the existence of religion and of ambition,
(remember they say work is worship,
your purpose you cannot shun).
fingernails scraping the desperate bones between which a beating heart once bled.
in the shadows of the darkness you see the past -
another second passed, time flying so fast, one cannot last.
treading tip-toe across a tightrope
stretched thin between your rising expectations
and his fla(il)ling patience.
nature’s infinite scream tearing through dimensions, leaving you haunted.
there’s a lot you hoped you’d never be in your twenties.

slow, shallow, low, hollow - stop.
diaphanous landscapes leaking into memory’s slippery crevasses.
no longer aware of the here and now.
battling desperately against reality’s sting.
questioning the bitter metallic aftertaste that punctuates
every seemingly-cheerful conversation.
self-worth slashed into strings of cynicism
hanging around a sorry neck.
inhaling air thick with the dregs of a life
suspended between conflicting timelines.
the past and present collide angrily to disfigure the future.
the past and present, two words that cease to exist in the future.
glassy eyes staring proudly at shattered crutches scattered around cut feet.
there's a lot you never thought you'd be in your twenties.

bold, bitter, brave, better - ready.
ready for the solitary walk,
a lifelong talk with only the voices in your head for company.
ready to dance to the vibrations that distort carefully laid plans.
ready to survive stormy seas on stormy nights
with no lighthouse waiting to shine on.
ready for what's incredible, what's impossible, what's magical;
only not for what's mechanical.
ready to face more no's and less yes's
no heroes and angry villains
but carry on anyway.
ready to say yes when your ego says no,
ready to say yes when your brain says no;
never ready to say yes when the heart says no.
**there's a lot we've become in our twenties.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
Money in the pocket of the biggest shareholder

Day by day, we grow older
Love is lost, hearts grow colder

So while you still can, you should hold her
Say what you feel, before you wish you'd told her

Don't stash your dreams away, in that folder
As you care less what they think, you'll get bolder

Listen to those, who need a shoulder
Let her live, don't try to mold her

Don't sell your soul, for something golder

Sometime,
Somewhere,
Life will insist
You
Let
Go
Of the one
You
Love
Most.

Lying alone
In what was once
Our sweat soaked sheets
Torn between shame and regret
Over the secrets we're
All forced to keep
Whatever this was
It has changed me
Monotone, mechanical, voices,
issuing from junior aliens in their
junior-alien gladiator-space-helmets,
spoke that now famous sentence
to the children of my generation
in Saturday morning cartoons.

Was this actual, hidden wisdom,
meant for us to remember years later?

Resistance,
in our personal lives,
to the behavior
of those around us,
usually just causes that behavior
to become more entrenched.

Did intelligent, actual aliens,
feed this message into
our childhood consciousness?

I smile to think so.

Close Your Heart

Say of me I am living still
Because the smell of God
fills my nostrils
Say of me that I am living still
Because the Devil’s
laughter fills my ears
Say of me I am living still
Because the ghost of my past
still haunts my present
Say of me that I am living still
Because while my mind is
in Heaven,
my body is in Hell.
Say of me I am living still
Because the heart inside
of me,
is no longer mine
Say of me I am living still
Because when I see
the light
I run towards it
Say of me that I am living still
Because the life
I wanted was
not grasped with
loving hands
Say of me I am living still
Because my words to God
went unanswered
Say of me I am living still
Because the self-control
I’ve never withheld
has been stolen
within moments
Say of me that I am living still
Because the light
at the end of
the tunnel
has been snuffed
out
Say of me I am living still
Because the laughter
has turned into
forbidden screams
Say of me  I am living still
Because happiness
was never an
option
Say of me I am living still
Because the smiles
were all porcelain
Say of me I am living still
Because the choice
of life was
never mine
to make
Say of me I am living still
Because when I
look into your
face
all I see is
melancholy smiles
Say of me I am living still
Because the tidal
waves of my life
are beginning to
pull me under
Say of me I am living still

Because even though
you know how
to surf life’s waves
You’ve never taught
me
Say of me I am living still
Because the monsters
lurking in the
shadows
are now in
the light
Say of me I am living still
Because the stars
are now black holes
Say of me I am living still
Because the lyrics of your
love have faded
into tattered
music sheets
Say of me I am living still
Because the blue of your
eyes have turned
cerulean
Say of me I am living still
Because Romeo and
Juliet have turned
into a faded
fiction
Say of me I am living still
Because the sun
no longer illuminates
my mind
Say of me I am living still
Because your laughter
has turned into
nothing but poignant
static
Say of me I am living still
Because God has
forbidden me to
enter the gates
of Heaven
Say of me I am living still
Because Lucifer has
invited me for
a strong drink
Say that I am living still
Because my mind
is no longer clear;
but is home to
demons
Say of me I am living still
Because those words
were never carved onto
my grave. -DDF

To place it in a transparent box.
Shut tight.
So that you cannot access it.
So that it will be out of reach.
So that you cannot feel it anymore.
But
So that you can still see it.
And not let it happen again.
