because i had everything i could ever want
then figured out it was all a lie
because while all you could do was taunt
i crafted my own wings to fly
dont worry i didnt fly too high

And when I look at him, I just wonder,
Was existence always this beautiful?
I wish I could slow down time and simply stare
At the personification of a star
That stands so effortlessly in front of my insignificance.
I wish I could touch you
But alas,
Flesh burns in the presence of the sun.
to a simple crush.

🤴

Approach, dear dreamer, if you dare,
But know my skies hold thinning air.
My steps are stitched in woven flame,
My name, too sharp for lips of shame.

You came with hands of dust and thread,
A crown of noise upon your head.
No sword, no gift, no golden key,
Yet thought to tame a storm like me.

Did Daedalus forget to warn his son?
Even Icarus soared closer than you’ve done.
You chase the sun but dread the cold,
A heart too timid, a hand too old.

I dance where only giants tread,
I feast where lesser men have fled.
I wear the stars, I breathe the skies,
I kiss the sun where eagles rise.

So take this truth I lay in rhyme:
A throne too high commits no crime.
It’s built for those who carve through air
Not those who knock and gasp for prayer.

Footnote:
This poem is a declaration of unreachability - a message to those who approach greatness with presumption but without worth. It evokes mythological imagery (Daedalus, Icarus), not to flatter the dreamer, but to caution them: wings of wax and hollow pride won’t carry you where gods walk. The throne is not cruel for being high - it is simply not meant for the unready. This is not arrogance. This is altitude.

The volleyball player is a greedy being
Constantly striving for more, never satisfied

We will melt our wax wings off
If it means we get a chance to fly

Falling from that burning sky, no one can reach us
When we’re up that high
and when the ocean floor touches our heads
We’re too far gone, not victors yet

A drowning, suffocating feeling, until you suddenly
Learn to breathe
And you will keep those wax wings on, even if
It means sinking to the deep

Died once, drowned twice, but got back up again
Sewing flight from broken skin
I will grow wings, no matter how
Take my dead skin, can’t reach me now

i.
icarus died smiling
hot wax still dripping down on his thigh
a feathered autograph in cirrus cyrillic
signed in sky like a rebel flag on the moon
i was here

i, too
want to fly so close to the sun
that i become ashes
and when i am dead
then i will smile and laugh

and i will be happy

as i drift
as dust
into s p a c e
lwk depressed like i'd throw myself into the sun not the worst way to die
I’ve always looked at birds
with the sort of jealousy
that can only be felt
by a creature who’s stuck to the ground.

I’ve clawed at my shoulders,
I’ve left welts on my back.
Still…
There’s no wings to be found

Wishing for bones
that are deft and hollow,
while carrying ones instead
filled with blood and marrow.

No feathers protrude
from beneath this skin.
Just a humanly ache
that the birds cannot borrow.
I've been away for a while, building community and learning. I have lots of writing to share :)
